Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life changing injury, it's become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made. that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I'll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind and body. Your emotions and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself and your life.
Let's begin.
Hello, and welcome to this week's quick IQ episode where we talk about insights and questions. And today I want to share with you two particular insights and really they're ultimately questions also, you know, things that are blowing people's minds or questions that I'm getting or Things that just topics that keep coming up.
There's like a buzz of conversation and topics around me currently of specific things. And so I wanted to bring two of those up today. One has to do with research and understanding the research behind mind body healing and just how mind expanding it can be. So that'll be one topic that we talk about.
And then another has to do with mind programming. And it is a question that I get all of the time and a topic that comes up all of the time. So you may have even heard me speak on it before, just because it is so common. And it is this, it is that all of the time people will ask about starting with gratitude for healing.
And sometimes that can be good and sometimes it can backfire. So what I always tell people is this, is if you're going to bring in gratitude, make sure to bring in feelings of, you know, like confidence at the same time. And that's actually what I did in my TEDx talk. If you've seen my TEDx talk at the end, I have people bringing gratitude, but then also confidence and feeling good about self.
Why? Did I do that? The reason I did that is because a lot of times what can happen is that a person may start to work on feeling in gratitude, you know, bringing in the feelings of gratitude, like you're supposed to do it. And this was what I was doing during my injury. I was trying to bring in the feeling of gratitude and Let's be honest, my life was also a mess, so I was not that great at it, and many times what could even happen is I would feel guilty for not feeling grateful, you know?
It was like, here I was, and in a mess, and in fear, and all of these things, and then I'm supposed to be grateful for things. And it wasn't always easy to do, you know, when you're in a lot of fear, it can make it harder. Or, another thing that I've seen happen is this, is that a person may work on bringing in feelings of gratitude, and yet, deep down, feel guilty, or undeserving in life, and feel like they're a bad person, even though there's another part of them that feels good, and knows they're a good person.
There can be another part that feels bad or undeserving, even for a mistake that happened 20 years ago. And so what can happen is feelings of gratitude can feel good and also trigger the negative, trigger feelings of undeserving, or trigger guilt, etc, etc. Or, I've even seen plenty of cases before where people felt guilty for having more than others.
And so then what happens is they go to bring in the feeling of feeling gratitude and they feel guilty not because of anything they've done in the past, but because they're focused on others who maybe have less, and then they feel worse about themselves because they're bringing in gratitude. So my point is, is a few things.
First and foremost, if you do bring in gratitude, which is wonderful, of course, wonderful in theory, but you'll want to remember that it does take a real change. So we can't just Put the band aid of gratitude on top of something and hope that that's enough. That yes, we want to be grateful. Absolutely. And we also need to feel deserving and we also need to let go of feelings of guilt.
And so we need to make a radical change to create radical healing. And that creates a segue to the second topic that I want to share with you, and it's this, it's that all of the time people are shocked at how fast I'm able to show results under medical equipment. And the reason that I'd love to demonstrate people releasing their own pain so you can actually see it is because Then we know, we can see clearly that it is the mind, meaning this, meaning that let's say that I took one thermal imaging scan of somebody in pain today and then checked it a month from now and their pain is gone and you can see it on the scan, their pain is gone.
Well, what could happen is this, is a person could also say, you know, well, yes, I changed my mindset, but I also changed my pillow. I also changed, you know, my workout. So it was probably the pillow or it was probably the workout or whatever that is. And, you know, the, the issue with that is if we're never clear at what is creating the change, it's hard to.
replicate results. And so the reason that I like to show medical thermography scans is so we can see those results. And by the way, if you are somebody who has not seen the medical thermography results, I'll just kind of explain them really quickly. And it's this, it's that, you know, if you think about medical thermography, what that is, is if you're not familiar with it, is it detects heat from pain or illness.
And a simple way to think about that is, you know, if somebody has Uh, a sprained ankle or an infection. Maybe you've had heat generating from those illnesses. And, you know, that problem that's going on in the body. And that's what medical thermal imaging does. Is it detects that heat so you can see it on a scan.
For example, if somebody has neck pain, then what you'll see is over the neck area, you'll see a big red area where all the pain is and then I'll show somebody how to use their mind and you can literally see the scan turn from red to green as their pain goes away. And what's also fascinating is that of course if they're re triggered, so if I instead took them back into the negative mindset, you can see their pain come back and the scan comes back.
And so what I love from this, even though of course we don't like pain, but what I love from this is you can see it's not just belief or placebo analgesia. You can see that it's the emotions driving the change. And so I love that. And all of the time people will ask me, you know, how did I come up with this?
How did I figure this out? And I would say one of the biggest things that really influenced my work a lot was my research on multiple personality disorder, or it's also now referred to as dissociative identity disorder, but most of the time you'll hear me refer to it as multiple personality disorder.
And that's just because, you know, during the time that I was researching medical journals, it was primarily called that. And also because it's easier to Digest, if you will, you know, it's easier to understand because it is self explanatory that, you know, multiple personality disorder is unfortunately somebody who's suffering from multiple personalities.
That's what I started doing was I had started basically looking at medical journals and the reason that I did that is because I kept getting sucked into all of these marketing things or Different beliefs with the mind or meditation things or like just all of these different things and researching the mind or supplements or diets And and I kept getting sucked into all the marketing and then I would try something and really put everything into a time money Whatever it was into it and then it wouldn't work And I just kind of figured, okay, well, I really need to understand the mind.
And of course, understand it in a different way. I needed to understand what was missing. What were we overlooking? And of course, when we think about it for a moment, if somebody really understands how to use a computer, it's much easier to work with it than somebody who doesn't. You know, if somebody barely understands a computer, it can be frustrating and less successful.
And so I just. I really decided that I needed to understand even more. So I started reading medical journals, and understanding, and looking for anomalies, and put the pieces together. You know, what was missing? And multiple personality disorder was definitely a big influence. So, I'll actually have my team put, a medical journal study in the show notes today.
If you're somebody who loves to geek out, if not, I'll just explain it and simplify it either way. And it's this, it's that one of these medical journal studies, it was a case study on a woman who was experiencing headaches, severe headaches, and she was unfortunately suffering from multiple personality disorder.
And she had about 14 or 15 different and some of these personalities didn't have any documented health issues. Meanwhile, other ones, you know, one had suffered from severe headaches. Another one did not have any headaches or no chronic headaches at all, but had back pain. Meanwhile, another personality, a completely different one was always sick and had asthma.
Meanwhile, Other ones were happy and playful, and still other ones, another one was like a good mother. I mean, there was just a mix of things. And so that was really a breakthrough in seeing that because, you know, when we think about it for a moment, we've heard for years, thousands of years, really, that stress affects the physical body.
It's psychoneuroimmunology, it's written even in the Bible, a merry heart is a medicine to the body, ill thoughts will dry the bones, so it's written throughout history. And of course, you know, as being, being an analytical mind, I could look at it objectively and I could see that there were plenty of people who had PTSD or severe trauma, who weren't necessarily sick, and other people with less stress.
Who were sick and even people who were happy, who were sick. And that's what helped me to understand that it, it depended on the, you know, the mix of emotions, if you will. And so you'd likely, if you're here, there's a chance you've heard me say that before, that the specific combination of emotions is key.
You know, that's something that you'll hear me say over and over. That combination is pivotal. And that's ultimately what you want to change are those subconscious emotions. And by the way, before we go on to the insight from this, you know, when you stop and think about it for a moment, we can see this in everyday life.
You know, we know that somebody can have good days and bad days with health. You know, somebody can have an autoimmune condition that goes through a flare up for a couple months or have good days and bad days. And sometimes we don't realize that our own actions can also trigger our emotions. And what I mean by that is if you think about the last episode, episode 230, I worked with a beautiful volunteer.
Her name is Victoria. And on that episode, she mentioned she, her pain had been way down. She'd been keeping it down. And she said, even though she was doing even more. Now, for a lot of people, especially if somebody is feeling guilty about the past, if you think about it, them doing more and more and more in their lives isn't just a physical action, but they can feel undeserving to do more, undeserving to live a full life.
And so what can happen is anytime a person does more, they could feel more guilty or more undeserving. Or they could trigger that feeling or even trigger the feeling it's not safe. My point being is that all of the time there are more emotions going on with our behavior or that can trigger unconsciously that we don't even realize but either way the awareness that We can have these fluctuations.
I know in my own life, going through my injury, I very much had fluctuations. I would have times where I felt like I was doing better and improving and things were, you know, getting better. And then I had times when I felt like, oh my gosh, I am never gonna get better. I couldn't even get out of bed. I was in so much pain and I was just a mess, even times that it hurt to even breathe.
And then there were other times, I mean, there was this time, When I had been working on getting my balance right, and working on walking without a, like, trying to get my balance so I could walk without a cane or a walker, and I had been working with a physical therapist, and her name was Livnot, and just a beautiful, beautiful being.
I have to say, I'm so grateful for this woman, Livnot, through my injury, just because she felt like the one person who didn't give up on me. because I mean, she would literally come to my house, even on her time off and come and tape me, like where she would use like this kinesio tape and tape me from literally from like the back of my neck to my feet because I was just burning and in pain and razor pain and all of these things.
And she would just tape me. Try to help to do something to decrease the pain. And it was, it was so sweet, but there was this one time that happened that I can't help but laugh. Like after the fact we absolutely laughed, but I had been working on trying to walk correctly and balance myself correctly and.
And so she was teaching like my feet placement on where to go and all of these things. And part of the thing she said is that if I was going to walk right and get my balance back and all of these things, that I had to start wearing shoes that had a back to them. Because at the time I kept, I would always wear slip on shoes because I couldn't reach my feet to put on shoes, right?
So I kept wearing slip on shoes and slip on shoes. And so I, at one time at physical therapy, when I was there. She said, she had kept telling me, you know, you have to wear shoes with a back. And one time, you know, she, one time, she actually, she was like, okay, I really need you to wear shoes with the back. So she traded me shoes.
She gave me her shoes and put her shoes on me and she took my shoes. And she was like, okay, we're going to do this. And I just, I got to say, I just love this. I love this woman so much. But anyway, so she, she did this and I was working on, you know, getting my gait better and getting my balance better and all of these things, just trying to And long story short, I left physical therapy that day with her shoes, and I can't remember.
I think a friend drove me home. I can't, I can't remember it. Anyways, I got dropped off at home and then I realized I could not. These shoes off because I could not reach my feet. And, uh, and during this time, nobody was staying with me or maybe whoever was staying with me was gone or what. I don't remember.
There was different times during my injury. My brother had stayed with me for a while or a friend stayed with me for a while. Or, I mean, there was just different times, different people, et cetera. There was another person, Lynn, who used to come and help me. I mean, there was just all of these people. So who used to help in this, that, the other.
So anyways. That I am, by the way, very, very, very, very grateful for. But anyways, these shoes. So it was hilarious because I ended up having to sleep in these shoes because I didn't have help that evening until the next day when somebody came. To help me and so there was there was all of these silly ridiculous things And I don't know that I was so thrilled about it at the time.
I got to be honest, but looking back. It's It's hilarious and Liv Not and I laughed about it after the fact, you know after I was able to get the shoes off But my point being is that we have ups and downs It's just simply we can have ups and we can have downs so we can see Evidence that at a subconscious level that our minds are constantly affecting our bodies.
We just don't realize it. Meaning this, meaning if you, meaning, if you think about it for a moment, if somebody just had an illness, then you would expect every day to be consistent, consistent, consistent, consistent. If they have the same illness, then you would expect they would always have the same symptom, the same problem, the same, et cetera, the same, you know, it would be consistent, but we know with every illness that it can be what?
They can be triggered by stress. And so we know that. And so when we think about mind body healing, we just really need to think beyond that and say, okay, there are patterns of stress or triggers of stress, but we have to go beyond stress management. and beyond managing the emotions to actually eradicating them in the subconscious mind.
And that's what's key. And that's part of what I really want to share with you today is exactly that, is that when I work with people on these episodes, I make it look really easy because I'm helping them to shift their In the moment and I'm helping them to create the radical shift that they need to start helping their body to heal However, they really need to take it to the next level And that's why you'll hear me with every single volunteer say, you know Make sure to get this in embrace it all of the way and that you know It does take a real real real change because Ultimately when you hear me on these episodes, I want to demonstrate that.
Hey, we have this incredible ability You And I also want to emphasize, we have to go beyond, beyond, beyond, beyond what we think to eliminate this way of thinking and feeling from the mind completely. And that's part of the insight that I really want to bring to you today is exactly that, is basically what I'm trying to communicate, is that there is a depth.
to all of this, a depth that is deeper than most people. And another way to illustrate this depth I'm referring to is if we think about this simple act of perception, that one person may perceive this world To be really friendly and kind, another person may perceive this world to be fearful and unsafe.
In fact, I just spoke with somebody last week who was talking about moving from one country to another. And this particular person mentioned one of the things they love about such and such country they were in is they felt like it was really safe. Like you could walk down the street with a million dollars in your pocket and nobody would ever touch you.
And if they were going to a different country, they felt as though that they didn't even want to walk down the street with 50 in their pocket because they felt like it was unsafe. Now I have to say, I would wholeheartedly disagree with that person's perception about walking down the street with 50 in their pocket and them feeling like it was unsafe.
I do not have that same perception. as this person did. But that's my exact point, is that even our perceptions, how we feel about the world, how we feel about people, how we perceive our family or our friends, all of these things create unconscious emotional patterns that we don't necessarily realize are even there, because we think to ourselves, This is just how life is.
In fact, I can tell you time and time again, I've worked with people on emotional patterns and one of the first things people might say is this, they might say, but everybody thinks this way. Everybody feels this way because a lot of times people even think that exact thing. They think, well, everybody knows that the world is this way or everybody does this in their lives.
All of the time, I hear people say that. In fact, I was on an interview recently with somebody who said that exact thing. Who said, Oh, I have this pattern, but everybody feels that way. And of course, I would say that was definitely not the case. You know, when I'm working with people all of the time with their mindset, with her mindset compared to anybody else's, to me, it was a huge difference.
Time and time again, I have seen that exact thing. And so my point. In this is what is just that there is a depth to everything that I'm doing or sharing. And part of the reason I emphasize this is because I know going through my injury, I was, you know, meditating for years and had a vision and, and just was waiting for my body to heal.
But I really wasn't changing my brain, and my emotions, and my perception, and my patterns, and my subconscious mind, and my specific patterns in my subconscious mind at the level that I really needed to get results. But once I understood the depth, and the real change that was needed, That's when it became pivotal.
When I decided to get specific with mind programming, that was key. Not just a generalized mind programming. I had done all the guided meditations, the this, the that. When I got specific with my mind programming, that's when it created a radical change. And so something that I want to invite you to look at from this episode is maybe you write down one specific negative emotion that you've had.
And then write the exact opposite. So this is what I call your 180 shift. And so in other words, maybe you have felt unloved in life and that has been a painful pattern for you. And so you write the exact opposite. Your 180 shift is you start to work on bringing in the feelings of love and really start bringing those in.
Or maybe you felt a lot of fear in life. And so instead, the 180 shift for that is you start bringing in the feeling of safety and start really bringing that in and feeling that. And so this is of course, just something simple that you could do to start creating a shift in your life and, and then thinking about bringing that in and creating that shift and owning it, embodying it.
at a much deeper level. So repeating it, getting it in, amplifying the feeling and really taking it in very strong. So that can be just one simple thing that you could do to even start creating that shift in your mindset, your happiness, your health, your life, all of that. So those are the insights that I want to share with you from today's episode.
And one other insight is actually this is that, you know, Going through my entire injury and all of that, it was really wonderful that out of anybody, you know, Livnott, I mentioned Livnott, my physical therapist at the time, she was the one person who I felt like she kept researching also outside the box and just the hope, her hoping to was, was nice.
You know, and her hoping to, and also looking outside of the box and caring as much as she did was just really, really wonderful. So I want to invite you to take that in also, if there's somebody around you who is suffering, believe in them. You don't have, you know, you don't necessarily have to fix them, but even just believe in them.
And, you know, during my injury, What ultimately ended up happening is Livnott ended up moving away and she got pregnant and had this beautiful, beautiful baby. So she wasn't there the entire time, but there were several years that she was there with me and it was just really kind and nice. And so, you know, if there is somebody who you have in your life also that maybe is injured, is suffering, you know, just even believing in them.
There's also a great feeling as well. So thank you, Live Knot, and also for everybody else. Thank you for being here. Thank you. And by the way, thank you to everyone who has been sharing this podcast. You know, we are in the top 1 percent of all podcasts, and I think there's something like 3. 5 million something podcasts, and we're in the top 1%, and I could not do that without you guys, so You guys.
