Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandi Gilmore. And after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello and welcome. It is so wonderful to connect with you. I just love that you are somebody who is here, who’s continuing to expand your mind and your heart and your insight and your energy and your healing. I just love it. It is so wonderful to connect with you. And I just love today’s episode. It’s going to hit home for a lot of people and maybe not initially, but definitely subconsciously and that’s what we want to look at today.
You know, the topic of feeling like hardship is a good thing, or having pride in hardship, or even feeling like if things are easy, it’s not very impressive. Many of these types of beliefs can be linked up in the subconscious mind at a deeper level and people don’t even realize they’re there.
But I’ll see that all of the time. And then what happens is that it ends up leading to things like pain or depression or anxiety or hardship or whatever health issues. No matter how much a person is trying to manifest a great life and have happiness and love and ease and flow and all of these things, these beliefs or subconscious links will sabotage great things in a person’s life—or even keep them from ever really stepping into it.
And so for that reason, I really love today’s episode. It’s just very insightful. And I also love our volunteer today. His name is Brian, and he’s such a sweetheart. So you’re absolutely going to love him. And there are some powerful insights from this. My best suggestion is to really think and reflect as we’re going through today’s episode and notice where you might have some of these links in your mind. And then we’re going to do a simple exercise to help you to begin shifting these subconscious patterns. And so that’s where we’re going today.
And, you know, before we dive in, I do want to also say that I had some of these links personally. And even though I had some of these links in my mind, it’s not like everything was hard. And so that’s not typically how it works. We’ll have hardships, and then other things can also feel easy.
I mean, even if I look at my own life, you know, I finished high school early and I started going to college early. I bought my first house when I was 19. And I had won junior Olympics three times— for the first time when I was like 12 years old. And there were a lot of things. You know, I’m actually in the hall of fame for martial arts as well. So there were a lot of things that I did that also came very easy to me: school work, getting ahead, working at a job, and buying a house.
And really quickly, by the way, when it came to martial arts and hall of fame and all of that, it wasn’t that I did any of this UFC type stuff. I could never hurt anybody. But at the time when I was in it, it was all about points. And so it wasn’t about hurting people or anything like that. That was a long time ago and a different life, but for me, it was a fun sport that I excelled at.
Growing up, it was like this special connection between me and my father. It was something that he loved. And as a kid, I ended up loving it too and being passionate about it because it was just this special connection that we had. Even for all of the tournaments and different things like that—some of it was about point systems, others were about creating demonstrations and, you know, all kinds of things. So anyways, point being, that was something that also came easily to me. And there were many, many things that did, and I excelled very fast at a young age.
And I also had this feeling in my subconscious mind, this belief, that if things were easy, that it was less than. If you were doing something that was too easy, it was inferior. That was something I had gotten linked up in my childhood. You know, it’s kind of like if you’re going to do some task or something like that, and somebody goes, oh, that’s too easy. You know, that’s what I also had linked up. And so I also had some challenges. You know, some challenging things manifested as well that were kind of like, well, here’s some hardship.
So there were other things. And yeah, either way, that was my situation. Point being from that is: just because a person has this linked up doesn’t mean their entire life is a struggle, though it can be. And I have seen many people who have different links, such as, “I have the hardest life ever.” And I have seen people like that who are in really hard conditions—or even others who have great lives and then periodically have something catastrophic happen. Or even if life starts to feel too easy, then it gets harder and harder with something that comes up.
So again, just as we go through this, you’ll want to notice if you have any of these links in your mind. Maybe you do at a level 10, or maybe just at a level two or three, so maybe it’s small. But I want to invite you to be willing to look at things with an open mind.
So I’m going to purposely kind of look at things being hard and say, you know, that’s not cool. That’s not impressive. And so we’re going to start creating a shift as I start working with Brian and you’ll see what happens. And you’ll also see the other things that it’s linked to. So it’s interesting as we step in.
And again, you are absolutely going to love this. Brian, he’s just a sweetheart. So that’s where we’re going. And one last thing, as we do dive in, I just want to say there might be a tiny bit of echo on the recording in the beginning that you might hear, and you might not even hear it at all. So I had a little bit of editing done on it. Normally I don’t have to edit the recordings. But I did have to on this one, just in the beginning, because there were a couple audio issues. Likely you won’t even notice it at all, but I always want to be transparent and just let you know that I did have to fix that a bit. And again, likely you won’t even hear it and we’ll move right past it as we work on creating this shift with Brian and getting these powerful insights.
And so that’s where we’re going. Let’s go ahead and dive in with Brian.
Brandy: Hello, Brian.
Brian: Hi, Brandi. Can you hear me okay?
Brandy: I can hear you great. Just perfectly.
Brian: All right. How’s your day going?
Brandy: Oh, it’s going pretty good. Beautiful, hot outside, sunny day.
Brian: Right. I’m with you there. It’s gorgeous out, blue skies, palm trees.
Brandy: You know, I ain’t got the palm trees. We’ve got a nice little forest I’m looking at in my backyard.
Brian: There you go. There you go. Forest is beautiful, right?
Brandy: You got it. I love it. Give me one second. Hold on, I’m just adjusting my sound really quickly. My audio is a little bit—there we go. Are you there?
Brian: Yes.
Brandy: Nice to meet you. Finally, I’ve followed your podcast for some time.
Brian: Wonderful. I love that.
Brandy: I love it. I love it. And it’s wonderful to connect with you. What can I do for you today?
Brian: Well, I am having a lot of physical issues, coupled with anxiety. At first I thought that maybe something was wrong physically, but routine checks didn’t show anything. The symptoms seem to come and go with anxiety. Like if I notice physical sensations and then my mind starts spinning on them… and if I get distracted, or maybe I go grocery shopping or go out for a walk, it sort of dissipates. It’s done that over time. So I don’t think it’s anything truly like a physical illness, which in my experience doesn’t come and go like that. But I have these physical sensations that are kind of very uncomfortable in my body, in certain areas, that I can’t seem to resolve.
I’ve tried a lot of different things: meditation, relaxing, exercising, changing and trying to alter my eating. I try to drink enough water each day. I’ve tried different healing modalities. All kinds of things. And I can’t seem to get to the root of the problem. I’ve seen you have some pretty amazing results with people, so I thought, intuitively, I would try and see if maybe you could help me isolate it.
Brandy: Okay. Absolutely, absolutely. So as far as the discomfort… and I know to come on here you have to fill out a form, but the truth is, I rarely if ever read them. And I haven’t read yours. So as far as the location of the pain and sensations—what all are you experiencing?
Brian: It seems to move around from area to area, but the isolated areas seem to be in my left arm, left hand, upper left chest, left side of my neck, left side of my face, left eye, the upper left quadrant of the body, and the lower abdominal region, including the right and left side of my lower abdominal region. It fades in and out. There are other areas too: some sensations in my chest, but they come and go, not like tightness or pain, just little flashes here and there. Sometimes in my legs, like my lower right leg has been bothering me. It’ll be stiff and tense, and then the next day nothing.
Brandy: Okay. Bingo. All right. If I ask you currently, right now, as far as physical discomfort, where are you feeling it most?
Brian: I’d say about a seven.
Brandy: Okay. And where, if you focus on the place that you’re feeling it the most, would you say that is?
Brian: Upper left arm, and a little bit into my upper left chest. This is an area that I can’t even relax at night when I’m laying down watching TV. It’s so tense, like a piano wire. It just will not relax.
Brandy: Okay. The other thing I can tell you real quickly is that it feels like there’s a lot of energy in that area too. Almost like there’s more life in that area of the body, even though there’s all this tension. Okay. So here we go. I’m going to ask you to breathe.
Brandy: I’m going to ask you to notice the part of you that feels like you have been through a lot of hardship. Can you see that? That you’ve overcome things?
Brian: Yeah, I think so. I can feel a lot of tension and stuff.
Brandy: Bingo. And I want you to notice the feeling of hardship in life—like struggle, overcoming struggle, kind of like the pride of hardship type feeling, right?
Brian: Right.
Brandy: I want you to notice that feeling, okay? And breathe. Now, if somebody creates their life and it’s easy—like it’s beautiful, in flow and in harmony—how impressive is that?
Brian: It’s not impressive. It’s desirable, but it doesn’t seem impressive.
Brandy (to audience): Let’s pause here for a quick insight. Notice where his pain is—he mentioned the left side of his chest and a lot of tightness there. And he has been to the doctor, who didn’t see any physical problem going on. I want to emphasize: if you notice chest pain, do not avoid your doctor. Always make sure to get checked, because left chest pain could be connected to the heart, lungs, respiratory, or digestive issues.
If Brian hadn’t been to the doctor, I wouldn’t have taken him on the podcast. Working with the mind is powerful, but it is never a replacement for proper medical care. We always want to be responsible about our health. Even after pain is gone, I still recommend following up regularly with your doctor.
What we’re doing here is not about diagnosing, treating, or curing—it’s about empowerment. It’s about understanding the body, energy, stress, mindset, and connecting with spirit. It’s about embodying your full spiritual self and helping the body heal itself. But you still want to monitor your health responsibly.
Brandy: The second insight I want to highlight is what’s linked up in Brian’s mind. He said that yes, ease is desirable—but it’s not impressive. Hardship feels more impressive. Here’s the problem: at a subconscious level, if the mind links that it’s “inferior” for things to be easy, but “better” for things to be hard, then the brain will create hardship. It sabotages ease and flow.
It creates an inner conflict. Part of the mind wants things to be hard, while another part wants happiness and ease. That tug-of-war can create anxiety—and Brian has mentioned experiencing that constantly.
So what I’ll be doing is guiding him to start seeing that hardship is not impressive. Instead, ease and flow are impressive. That’s where we’re going as we continue this process.
Brandy: All right, let’s dive back in with Brian.
Brandy: If somebody’s life is in flow—aligned, smooth, everything is wonderful—isn’t that more impressive than someone who keeps creating problems?
Brian: It seems like the ones that have struggled and broken through are more impressive, come to think of it.
Brandy: Okay. Question for you—if you think about Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates, would you say they’ve succeeded beyond what many others have?
Brian: Yes.
Brandy: How much do you know about their struggle story?
Brian: Not much, to be honest.
Brandy: Right. So now, if they both had struggle stories, would they actually be more impressive?
Brian: I’m not really sure.
Brandy: Okay, great. So I’m going to ask you to breathe. You know who Michael Jordan is, right?
Brian: Yes.
Brandy: Now, picture that he has the worst struggle story in the world. He’s been through hardship after hardship. How much more impressive would he be?
Brian: More impressive, because he was able to rise above that struggle.
Brandy: Okay, now I’m going to ask you to breathe. But let’s look at this another way. If I told you there are kids in Compton who have struggled much more than Michael Jordan—are they more impressive than him?
Brian: I’m not sure anymore.
Brandy: Exactly. So let’s think about this. When you’re aligned with something and it just flows—it’s amazing and awesome, right?
Brian: Yes.
Brandy: If I said, “Oh, that’s so unimpressive. Sure, go ahead and align with your amazing life, that’s unimpressive”—does that make sense?
Brian: No, it doesn’t.
Brandy: A lot of times, when people are creating hardship, it’s because they feel like they don’t deserve good things. Or they feel punishment, or they’re self-critical, or attracting abuse. Do you think that’s so much more impressive—that someone attracts negativity first?
Brian: No, not at all.
Brandy (to audience): As you notice, I’m being playful here, keeping it light while guiding Brian to shift his perspective. But I do want to be clear—I’m not making fun of anyone’s hardship. I’ve been there. I was a train wreck in every area of my life: my health, finances, self-worth, confidence, even my relationship. I wouldn’t consciously have chosen that. But everything manifests for a reason, often from fear or guilt deep inside.
For example, one woman in my class felt extreme guilt for moving away from her grown kids, even though logically there was no reason. She had moved for love, for her job, and her children were adults with partners. But her subconscious guilt created health issues until she addressed it. That’s the power of subconscious links—they don’t always make logical sense, but they shape our lives. And they are not impressive. What’s impressive is aligning with joy, love, and ease.
Brandy: So just for a moment, can you take in the awareness that when somebody is aligned and life flows, that is impressive? You don’t need hardship.
Brian: Yes.
Brandy: Great. Ease is impressive. Ease is so freaking impressive. You don’t need hardship. Now, when someone’s out of alignment, hitting block after block, distraction after distraction— is that impressive?
Brian: No.
Brandy: Exactly. When I was injured, I was a train wreck. That wasn’t impressive. What was impressive was when I changed. The injury itself didn’t make me amazing—many people stay in pain after injuries. What made me amazing was changing, discovering, and understanding how incredible we all really are. That’s what’s impressive.
So breathe that in. You don’t need hardship. Just change. Be incredible. Life is easy and wonderful.
Brandy: Now, notice your arm. What’s your level of pain right now, zero to ten?
Brian: About a five.
Brandy: Great! So it’s going down. You said earlier it was a seven. That means the tension is starting to ease already.
Brandy (to audience): Let’s pause here. I just love Brian—his honesty, his authenticity, his openness. Notice that all we’ve done so far is bring in the awareness that hardship is not impressive, and ease is. And already his pain has dropped from a seven to a five. Just that shift in perspective is starting to release long-held tension.
We haven’t yet gone into deeper areas, like relationships or more layers of this hardship belief—that will come. But this first step is powerful. Too often, people overlook this, or know it in theory but never shift it. This shift alone can change your health, your happiness, and your life.
So for you, I invite you to reflect: where have you linked hardship to being impressive? Where might you carry subconscious pride in struggle? And are you willing to embrace a new belief—that ease is impressive, that flow is powerful, and that you deserve a life filled with it?
Brandy (to audience): I’m going to pause the session with Brian here because I want you to really take in this concept. We’ve only just begun shifting his subconscious link, and yet his pain has already started to ease. That’s powerful.
Here’s what I encourage you to do: make a list for yourself of all the reasons it would be impressive and amazing if your life was more easeful and in flow. For example, you might write:
On the other hand, if life is filled with hardship, you’ll always be clearing trauma, battling negativity, and missing out on the higher levels of joy and fulfillment you deserve. That’s not impressive.
So, write down your reasons. Read them daily. Let them start to reshape the way you view life. Remember, you don’t need hardship. You deserve a great life filled with ease, joy, and flow.
And as you do this, please don’t judge yourself. If you realize you’ve had a subconscious pride in hardship, treat yourself with compassion. Give yourself love and respect. You are learning. You are growing. And you absolutely deserve a life of ease and flow.
We’re going to continue with Brian’s session in the next episode, because there are deeper layers to explore—relationships, and more about this hardship pattern. But I wanted to pause here so you can really take in this first insight. Already, it’s shifting things for him, and it can shift things for you too.
If you know someone in your life who is struggling—maybe with anxiety, depression, or ongoing challenges—please share this episode with them. Often, there is a subconscious link to hardship. Helping them shift that perspective could change their life.
Remember, the happier, healthier, and more empowered each person becomes, the better this world will be for all of us, and for future generations. So please do share it. Let’s lift each other’s energy and lives.
I wish you an incredible, happy, wonderful rest of your day. And I look forward to taking this to the next level with Brian in the next episode. You won’t want to miss it!
