Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore. And after recovering from my own life changing injury, it's become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this. Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level.
I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I'll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy. to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life. Let's begin.
Hello and welcome to this week's quick IQ episode, where we talk about insights and questions. And today I want to answer a question that I get all of the time. When it comes to mind body healing, you know, all of the time people will see volunteers coming on the podcast and releasing pain and creating a radical shift in their health, their life.
And the question that often comes in is how is this even possible? And how does mind body healing work? And so that's what I want to share with you today is just a simple understanding to help you to understand how it is even possible for our minds to heal our physical bodies. Because that was something to me that I felt was, you know, hard to comprehend because after all, I had a physical accident with a physical injury and for a while that had been a hang up to me.
You know, how would it even be possible That my mind could heal my physical body. And of course, when I really thought about it, our physical bodies aren't so physical after all, you know, our bodies are made of oxygen and hydrogen and nitrogen, I mean, just, uh, we're, uh, elements, you know, and so that was something that I considered and also that the body is constantly repairing and replacing cells.
Now. When we look at mind body healing and how our mind and our emotions and our energy affects the physical body, if we just start to simplify it, and I'm just going to take piece by piece as we talk about emotions and then energy, but if we first simplify it and we say, okay, body, We know that stress affects the physical body.
You know, it's well known through research. We can see that stress impacts the body in a variety of ways. You know, we know fight or flight, where the body's stressed out or the autonomic nervous system. We've heard all that before, or even stress can impact your cortisol levels. So. a stress hormone that can negatively affect your body.
So we know that, or we can look at other things as well. Because a lot of times what happens is you'll see people who are chasing these problems in the body, not really thinking about the awareness of stress. And so other things that you'll see people looking at is, Oh, the pH of the body. And of course, stress can impact.
the pH of the body and make it more acidic. Or if we think about inflammation in the body, you'll see people who are working on, you know, getting rid of inflammation or free radical damage. And all of these things have been linked to stress. You know, research has shown that stress can increase blood pressure.
Pro inflammatory cytokines, and great more inflammation or stress can create more free radically damaged cells. And by the way, if you're not familiar with free radicals, a simple way to think about them is to think about a cell or a molecule with an uneven amount of electrons or better said cells. A car with an uneven amount of tires.
Now, if you imagine a car with an uneven amount of tires, it could run around crashing into other cars out of control, creating damage. The other thing is, is it could try to steal a tire from another car, so to speak, so it has now an even amount of tires and similarly. That's how free radicals can act in the body is that they can damage other cells and free radicals have been linked to all types of illnesses.
So we can see all of the myriad of ways that negative emotions affect the physical body and further, I mean, we could keep going on and on. We know that stress can affect digestion and then a lot of people will then, you know, chase the feelings of gut health, et cetera, not thinking about the awareness that stress is then.
Creating the problems with the gut and so a lot of times what can happen is people are looking at the physical symptom and they're trying to fix it in a variety of different ways the pH and the acid or the free radically damaged cells or the Inflammation or the digestion or trying to fix all of these things not realizing that stress or negative emotions, if you will, can impact the body in a myriad of ways.
Now, if we continue to just keep it simple and just look at emotions, and of course we'll talk about energy as well, but if we continue to just keep it simple and look at emotions, and we also look at the awareness that positive emotions can promote well being. Health and healing. For example, research has shown that optimism can help trigger the release of dopamine and research has shown that dopamine can help promote wound healing and motor function and support the body and happiness in a variety of ways.
So from this, we can see the basics. We can see how negative emotions can break down the physical body in a variety of different ways. And we can see evidence that all of these have been linked to illness. So we can see evidence of that. And also positive emotions can promote wellness and healing and the optimal function of the body.
Now, if we build on that and we start to look at specific emotions or energy, or, you know, get into more of the details when it comes to actually creating healing, you know, one thing we can look at, if we just. continue to build is the awareness that different emotions affect the body in a different way.
So we can see that, you know, if somebody's embarrassed, their face can turn red. And we all know that. Emojis know that. Or we can see anxiety, panic attack. So we can see that the two emotions affect the body in a different way. Very differently, you know, embarrassment affects the body in a different way than a panic or an anxiety attack.
And we can also look at the awareness that a sexual thought affects the body completely different. And we can also look at the awareness that we've all heard, you know, that somebody can die of a broken heart. That also affects the body in a different way. And so from this, we can see that different stressors and different negative emotions affect the body differently.
And the way that I started looking at it during my injury was like an emotional stroke, if you will. And what I mean by that, you know, is that if somebody has a brain injury or a stroke, you know, some type of damage in the brain, it can affect the corresponding part of the physical body. Meaning that, you know, if a stroke is on the right side of the brain, it can affect the left side of the body.
Or if it's on the left side of the brain, it can affect the right side of the body. And so from this, we can see that wherever the stroke is, or even brain damage is, can affect the corresponding part of the body. So it depends on where. the damage is. And so I started looking at it as like an emotional stroke, if you will, that different emotions generate activity in different parts of the brain.
So if somebody's feeling happy, or somebody's feeling sad, or somebody's feeling disgust, or they're feeling fear, These emotions all generate activity in different areas of the brain and researchers from Carnegie Mellon University were actually able to prove this and show this under an fMRI scans where you could see that different emotions generated different types of neural activity throughout the brain.
And so if, you know, if two people are feeling disgust, then their fMRI scans were both the same. So their neural activity was similar to each other. However, if one person is feeling disgust and one person is feeling fear, then their neural activity from that emotion is completely different. And so, Point being is just keeping it simple is that's the way that I started to look at it during my injury was that, you know, it depends on where that neural activity is generated.
depends on where it affects the physical body. It was a simple way to look at it. And so, if it's, you know, any motion that's generating more activity on the right side, then it affects this part, or the left side, or whatnot, then it affects this part, very simply put. And so, that was something that was key to to then start looking at which specific emotions are affecting which part of the body.
You know, is it embarrassment? Then red face or panic attack? Then, you know, anxiety? And, and so that's why you'll see me as I'm working with volunteers, helping them to identify the specific emotions that are affecting their body. That's always a key part to getting results, is identifying what's going on.
What are those specific emotions? And then addressing those. Now there are a few complexities because there's also energy and also there's always a combination of emotions. Now, a simple way to think about the combination of emotions is like this is, you know, the way I started thinking about it as I was doing my research and figuring all this out was I started looking at the information objectively.
And I could see that there were people who were very, very stressed, even had PTSD, trauma, you know, fight, flight, anxiety attacks, all of the stress and all of, you know, the things and extremely stressed. And yet we're not sick or terminal. And I could see that. And I thought, well, wait a second, isn't stress supposed to break down the physical body?
Don't we know that? And then I could also see. That in other cases there were people who didn't have stressful lives, who were maybe retired or happy positive people and who seemed to be in a lot less stress compared to somebody with panic attacks and anxiety and trauma and PTSD. And yet, these happier people could have all kinds of health issues.
And that, of course, made me think about the subconscious mind, but I also wondered, what was the difference? And that's when I really began to understand the awareness of multiple ingredients. And the analogy you hear me use all of the time is cake. You know, if you think about somebody who wants to bake a cake, if they have flour, They can't make cake, but if they have flour and they mix it with eggs and butter, or vegan eggs and butter, etc, etc, now, they can make a cake.
And so, similarly, multiple ingredients, or multiple emotions are key, and if you have different emotions, then it's different ingredients. And this is the reason that I could see how it was possible for somebody with multiple personality disorder to have different illnesses when they're in different personalities.
You know, they might have high blood pressure or diabetes or allergies or asthma in one personality, but in a different personality, even though they have the same body, in a different personality, they could have no illness. Or in a different personality, maybe they have low back pain and neck pain or I mean, all types of things.
So, When I started looking at multiple ingredients, multiple emotional ingredients, it made sense how one personality could have certain illnesses and a different personality could have completely different illnesses and then there could be another personality that was completely healthy and didn't have any documented illnesses.
And so, That was a key breakthrough in my research was understanding that it took multiple ingredients. Now, an example of these ingredients is part of what we've already talked about, you know, a specific emotion can affect the body in a specific way. So that's one thing. But another thing could be something like a person's mood.
Self image. You know, if a person sees themself as being somebody who's sick, then that can be another ingredient, so to speak, that helps make the cake. Now, of course, illness is not cake, but point being is that just the different emotional ingredients. So there's specific emotions. And so If you see me working with somebody and addressing specific emotions, that's exactly what I'm doing.
I'm saying, what are the specific emotions that are connected to the issue? And then I'm helping them to shift those specific emotions. Now, of course, I always tell people it takes follow through, so they have to re program the mind in a new, healthy way. But very simply, if we were going to simplify everything, that's what we'd say is, we'd say that negative emotions can negatively impact the body.
Positive emotions can positively affect the body. And we have to look at what are the specific ingredients, the specific negative emotions. And transform those, so they're really changed and really reprogrammed in the subconscious mind, and understanding, of course, that there's a combination of ingredients.
And so, that's the simplicity of it. Now, I'm trying to keep this very simple. But if I were going to add a bit more onto this and look at some more of the complexities, it would be this. It would be that we can have positive emotions linked up to negative emotions, and that can be a problem. Now, a simple example that you hear me use all of the time is we can see that a cutter, somebody who cuts themselves, can unfortunately experience feelings of relief or euphoria or control or safety from cutting themselves.
Now, that doesn't make logical sense, but those can get linked up. Or, you know, I mentioned earlier dopamine and dopamine can help with wound healing and motor function and have all of these positive effects on the physical body. However, feelings of anger can also get linked up to dopamine and dopamine.
Anger has also been shown to slow down wound healing and cellular proliferation. So when you stop and think about it, here is anger, an emotion that has been shown to reduce healing. that can be linked up to dopamine that can help increase wound healing. And so you can see the complexity that our minds can get miswired.
And now we have a positive and negative firing at the same time. So that's part of correcting the mind programming. That's where some of the complexity is. with healing is understanding exactly that is understanding the mind can be miswired. And so all of the time I make this look very easy and you'll hear me say that over and over when I work with volunteers to help them shift their mindset is because typically what I'm finding is some type of miswired mind programming that then is negatively affecting their body, even though it may feel like a positive.
And so. There are some complexities, and so just noting that. Now again, if we're going to go back to simplicity, we would just say, bringing in more and more and more positivity, letting go of the negativity, and correcting the negative. any miswired mind programming. Now the last piece, I'm trying to keep this very simple, but the last piece, if we look at a little bit more of the complexity, we would also bring in the awareness that our emotions and our mindset can shift our energy.
Now, a lot of people think that energy is just woo woo. However, medical research actually discovered energy of the body as well back in the 1920s. So, about a hundred years ago, it was medically discovered by a medical scientist, Alexander Gerswitch, who was actually nominated for the Nobel Prize 11 times for finding the energy of the body.
Now, initially when he discovered it, he called it mitogenetic radiation, and now it's typically called ultra weak photon emission or bio photons. It has a few different names to it, but very simply put, you know, we want to stick to simplicity. There's energy. of the body, light energy of the body. And a simple way to think about it is that if we think about a light bulb, a light bulb emits particles of light, or even the sun, the sun emits particles of light.
And these particles of light are called photons. And our bodies emit what are called bio photons. So the same thing, particles of light, and they're just called bio photons because they're from a biological organism. And so very simply put, We're emitting light energy. Now, some cool things about this energy, we're just gonna try to keep it simple, and we'll say some cool things about this light energy is this, is that research has shown that this light energy can impact cells, that it can make cells heal and grow and increase cellular proliferation.
or it can negatively impact cells as well. So it can actually deform cells or damage cells or stop them from healing. And so it's fascinating that our own minds can influence the energy of the body and research has shown that this energy of the body has the power to impact cells and cell growth. And so that's powerful.
Now, if we look at additional information, research also suggests that this light energy communicates information throughout our bodies, such as homeostasis. Now, some people may hear this and may immediately think, wait a second, how is it possible for light to communicate information throughout our bodies?
But what you'll want to keep in mind is that cell phone information, emails, computers, cable TV, all of these things, all of these, this information can be communicated throughout the world using light. If you've ever heard of fiber optics before, That's exactly what fiber optics is, is it's light through a glass fiber, through a glass tube, basically.
So it is light energy that's communicating this information around the world. That's the reason that you can get a text message on the other side of the world immediately, like at the speed of light, if you will, is because light is many times the backbone that is transporting this information. And so, point being, Is it, if you're wondering, how is it possible for our bodies to use light to communicate information?
It's interesting to note that we do that every day in our daily life by using our computer or internet and all of that stuff. And so what's fascinating is that research suggests that light energy is transmitting and communicating information throughout our bodies, including things like homeostasis.
Now, What's fun, if you want a simple example for communicating information throughout the body and how this could potentially impact our health, one way to think about it is like this. Is that if you're familiar with a placebo, which is basically a fake treatment, you know, in any research study a certain percentage of the participants will get the real treatment.
And a certain percentage will get the fake treatment. Now, the fake treatment has been shown to produce real physical results. So there can be biochemical changes. There can be actual changes in the body shown from this fake treatment. Now, what's fascinating, if we delve in further to this awareness, The fake treatment can have both positive effects and negative effects.
So in other words, if somebody is told that this fake treatment can help their symptoms or help reduce their blood pressure, then it can. But in a negative way, if they are told that it could create a rash, then it could do that. Now, typically when it comes to real healing and getting physical healing results, typically, The placebo doesn't result in actual physical healing.
But my point from this is that we can see that the mind is communicating information to the cell. So we can see the transfer of information. Like the body is very, very intelligent. It's not just positive and negative emotions, that there is a level of intelligence where it's getting an understanding and applying certain Information that can affect our cells.
And so simply put, we can see that communication is happening throughout the body. That was something that was fascinating to me throughout my injury is I kept wondering, you know, how does the body get this information? You know, if a. They're told a fake pill can lower the blood pressure, then it does, or then it could cause a rash, then it can't.
And that was interesting to me on how that information was somehow communicated to the body. And that's part of what made me really look at bio photons, or, you know, the light energy of the body, and want to really understand it. And of course, research has shown that there is a direct correlation between our thoughts and emotions and this light energy.
For example, in one study, researchers showed that when participants visualized white light, they had increased light energy from the right side of their head, but not the left. Or, they In another study, participants increased the feeling of anger in their body, and it increased biophoton emissions, this light energy emissions.
And so we can see that there's a direct correlation, and research has shown that time and time again. Now what's kind of tricky if we look a little bit at energy for a moment, you hear people all of the time say things like, well just increase your energy. To be able to heal. Well that doesn't make sense because as I just mentioned research studies show that anger can increase biophoton emissions and simultaneously research has shown that anger can actually slow down healing.
And so point being is it's not just about increasing your energy, it's the awareness that you're being healed. that our light energy can communicate information throughout the body, including information such as homeostasis. Now, research has shown that. Now, when I'm working with the body, I can also get information from energy, if you will, and what I see is the body can also communicate whether it wants to heal or it doesn't want to heal.
If it's aligned with healing or if it feels a sense of, of being blocked from healing and not wanting to heal. And so I would say that there is so much information. And of course, because I can check into the energy of the body, the information that I'm able to get by checking into the energy is very helpful.
And so, On a simple note, basically what I'm doing is when I'm checking into somebody's energy, I'm understanding which emotions are impacting the physical body, and I'm also understanding what communication is going on throughout the body, and does the body want to heal? Does the body feel like it's safe to heal?
Because sometimes the body can feel like it's unsafe to heal. And as you'll recall, a few episodes ago, I worked with a volunteer that very topic came up where there was a part of her who did not feel as though it was safe to heal. And I love her awareness. I mean, just a beautiful, beautiful being so self aware and That's what I can see in people's energy is the, is the, the energy can communicate exactly that, that it feels safe to heal or it does not feel safe to heal.
And so that is a complexity as well, but that's the reason that you'll see me working with people, whether it's on pain or a variety of different health issues. And ultimately that's what I'm looking at doing is changing The information, their emotions, their mindset towards healing, or hurt, or wounding, or emotional patterns, and really looking and identifying what those specific emotional ingredients are, you know, which specific thought patterns, emotional patterns, are affecting them, and then helping to transform them.
That. So this, I guess, is both the simplified version and then also pointing out a few of the complexities as well. And that's the reason that I always say I make this process look very easy. It can be, and it is, the more we understand it and just understand that there is a logic to it. There's an absolute logic and we can see that and we can see the direct connection to research and we can see how stress affects the body in a myriad of ways.
But it's also understanding, you know, how do we. then get out of that. How do we reprogram the mind and how do we create that real change and create new emotional patterns and neural pathways? So yes, there are some complexities and if we just want to look at the simplicity of it and start with that part of it, we can say very simply that it will be key to get in even more with the mind.
positivity, to really promote positive emotions in a positive way, and really amplify those, because those can help bring in, you know, going back to simplicity, positive biochemicals that can support your healing and happiness, such as dopamine, or oxytocin, or serotonin, or you know, all of these positive chemicals, and also the more you stay active.
in the positive emotions, the more you can then stay out of the negative effects of stress with free radicals and pro inflammatory cytokines and, you know, cortisol and, you know, fight flight and acidity and all of that stuff, if you will. So just trying to keep it simple. And so the simple takeaway that I want to invite you to look at in your own own life is even just writing down maybe one stress you can work to start transforming in your life today.
You know, maybe you're changing something that has been stressful and you're willing to start transforming that in your life. And then also one simple thing that you could do. To start bringing in even more positivity and maybe it is messaging a friend or calling a friend a bit more often and celebrating your wins or celebrating the positivity in life or calling a friend and not talking about stressful, negative things, but making a point to laugh more on purpose and doing that.
So that could be a beautiful thing. And so from today's episode, That's ultimately what I want you to think about is just something simple that could help to start shifting your mindset and your emotions even more towards the positive and start letting even more of the negative emotions go and embodying.
Alright, so that's today's quick IQ episode, and as always, I want to ask you to please do take just a quick moment to hit the share button on this episode. You know, share it with somebody you love, somebody you care about, or somebody you don't even know. Or even somebody who you know has been stuck on the hamster wheel of trying to heal.
Because I see that all the time. I was there just trying everything, and this and that, and every single thing that I could find. so much. And it wasn't working until I really started to just understand how the mind worked. So then I could implement it and create a radical change that surprisingly, amazingly healed my body and then led to this whole journey of healing and transformation.
It's just been incredible. And so either way, asking you to please do take just a quick moment to hit the share button and please do subscribe. Make a point to have a most wonderful, fantastic, loving, happy, healthy rest of your day. And I look forward to connecting with you on the next episode. We'll see you there.
