Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible — the placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Transforming the Pattern of Disappointment
Hello and welcome to today’s Quick IQ episode, where we talk about Insights and Questions. Today, I have a really great question from a listener regarding the topic of changing her life and also the topic of disappointment.
In short, her question is this: she’s been working on her spiritual journey — her self-help journey — for a long time, but she says she has a nagging pattern that hits her like a sucker punch. It’s the pattern of disappointment. So, that’s what we’re going to unpack today — the pattern of disappointment and how to transform it.
Learning from Disappointment
Now, as with every pattern, it can show up in a few different ways. The first thing we want to look at is the most common — making distinctions from the disappointment itself.
To give you the big picture for a moment — if you’ve seen the photo of me in the wheelchair at my sister’s wedding, you’ll know what I mean. Leading up to that wedding, I told everyone that I would walk down the aisle with no cane, no walker, and no wheelchair. And technically, if you look at that picture, you can see — I failed, so to speak.
But of course, I didn’t really fail. I’m now 100% healthy, pain-free, happy, on no medication, and I can run and do all the things I love. So, in the big picture, I didn’t fail — but I did miss that deadline, and I was disappointed.
However, that disappointment lit a fire in me. It made me determined to figure out what I needed to do. Up until that point, I believed that healing was all about gratitude, meditation, positive affirmations, and belief. I was doing all of those things — convincing myself daily, “I’m healed. I’m healthy. I’m doing better.”
But when it didn’t work out, I realized I had to dig deeper. I had to learn more, understand more, and make distinctions. That’s when I truly started to change.
Distinctions Lead to Growth
Think about it — as children, when we learn to walk, we stand and fall, stand and fall, over and over again. But we make distinctions, we grow, and before long, we’re running around getting into everything. That’s how learning works in every area of life — we make mistakes, learn, and get better each time.
So, when something doesn’t go the way you want, ask yourself: What can I learn from this? How can I grow? What can I do differently next time?
That mindset changed everything for me. Every distinction I made — every insight I gained — became a building block for the work I do today. Those discoveries have allowed me to help others achieve incredible results, even under medical equipment, showing that real healing can happen through the mind.
So, when disappointment arises, don’t stay stuck in it. Instead, make distinctions. Ask what you need to know, do, or change — and keep going.
Turning Disappointment into Determination
Disappointment, when used correctly, can be one of the most powerful teachers. My injury wasn’t what I wanted — not even close — but it forced me to grow. It wasn’t the injury that was the gift; it was the change that became the gift.
Sometimes people say, “My illness or injury is my gift.” But that’s not quite it — it’s the transformation that’s the gift. The growth, the awareness, the strength that comes from it — that’s what’s truly powerful.
So, if you’re feeling disappointed about something, use that moment as your turning point. Ask yourself: What do I need to change? What can I do differently next time? Because every time you do that, you shift from disappointment to empowerment.
Breaking Free from the Emotional Pattern
Now, our beautiful listener described disappointment as something that hits her “like a sucker punch.” That’s an emotional reaction — and when those emotions take over, it’s hard to think clearly or make empowered decisions.
When you’re in that space — stressed, hurt, or discouraged — your mind becomes less resourceful. You can’t access higher-level solutions from a low emotional state. It’s like when a third grader is overwhelmed trying to do math homework — they can’t focus until they calm down and shift their energy.
The same is true for us. When we’re emotionally overwhelmed, it’s hard to see opportunities or possibilities. So, we must rewire the subconscious mind to break that emotional pattern — to teach the brain not to get stuck in disappointment but to look for the lesson or opportunity instead.
Because here’s what happens: when we stay emotionally stuck in disappointment, we reinforce that pattern. And what do patterns do? They repeat. The more we focus on the emotion, the more it recreates itself. That’s why we must shift it quickly — emotionally and energetically.
Becoming Emotionally Resourceful
Instead of saying, “It didn’t work out — I failed,” train your brain to say, “Okay, what’s the opportunity here? What can I learn from this?” That shift changes everything.
And when you practice it repeatedly, it becomes automatic. Your brain starts looking for solutions and growth instead of pain and limitation. That’s when disappointment transforms into determination, clarity, and forward movement.
Real-World Example: Opportunity in Change
We can even see this in big, real-world situations. Think about COVID — during that time, there were lockdowns and so much uncertainty. Some people got trapped in fear and hopelessness, while others said, “Okay, the world has changed — what do I need to change?”
Those who took that empowered approach created huge breakthroughs. I saw it firsthand — people who turned challenges into opportunities, who found new ways to work, connect, and thrive despite the circumstances.
So, no matter what’s happening externally, your power lies in your ability to stay open and resourceful. When you do that, you find the opportunity hidden in every challenge.
From Disappointment to Transformation
That’s the insight and invitation I want to leave you with today: if you’re feeling stuck, stressed, or disappointed — don’t stay there. Turn that disappointment into transformation. Find the opportunity, make the change, and run with it. That’s how you turn challenges into growth and setbacks into breakthroughs.
