My name is Brandy Gillmore. After recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries that transformed my health and life. Our minds are truly incredible—just think of the placebo effect. Each week, I’ll take this simple awareness to a whole new level.
I’ll coach live callers to free themselves from physical pain using only their mind, and provide a combination of practical and spiritual insights you can use to master your mind, emotions, and energy. Together, we’ll heal your health, yourself, and your life. Let’s begin.
Insights into Emotions and Feelings: What’s the Difference?
Hello and welcome to this week’s quick IQ episode, where we dive into insights and questions. Today, I want to share a question I often get: What is the difference between emotions and feelings?
This came up last week while I was out with friends. During a wonderful dinner, we started talking about various topics, including emotions and feelings. It’s a common question: What is the difference between an emotion and a feeling?
Simplifying the Difference Between Emotions and Feelings
To keep it simple, let’s start with the five senses we learned in school: vision, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Touch relates to feeling. Similarly, a feeling is what we sense about our emotions.
Emotions are our internal mind programming—our energy in motion. For example:
- If you love a sunset, that’s your energy in motion—your emotion.
- If you’re angry with your spouse, that emotion is your energy in motion toward them.
Sometimes, we suppress emotions from past experiences. These emotions still exist, buried in the subconscious, even if we don’t feel them. A feeling, then, is when we sense or become aware of an emotion.
Why Understanding Emotions and Feelings Matters
When you think about it, emotions and feelings are one and the same. The difference lies in whether you can feel the emotion consciously. For example:
- If you think about an apple, you may feel positive or negative emotions. But unless you’re interacting with the apple, you’re not likely to feel anything consciously.
Key Takeaway: Awareness and Transformation
It’s vital to keep things simple. Overthinking these distinctions can prevent you from healing or seeing results. Emotions—even those you’re not aware of—are stored in your subconscious mind. These subconscious emotions can block healing, change, or growth.
Clearing Emotions to Transform Your Life
In past episodes, I’ve worked with people to clear subconscious emotions that were blocking them. For example:
- Healing physical pain: Subconscious emotions often stop healing, even if you’re unaware of them.
- Overcoming emotional overwhelm: Many struggle to distinguish one emotion from another, creating a sense of heaviness.
To heal, you need to identify and transform these emotions. Doing so allows you to release subconscious blocks, feel better, and change your life.
The Myth of “Time Heals All Wounds”
You’ve probably heard, “Time heals all wounds.” But if that were true, we wouldn’t still feel hurt or repeat patterns from childhood. Time doesn’t heal; it just helps us bury our emotions.
Think of it like wearing an uncomfortable piece of clothing. At first, it feels restrictive, but over time, you get used to it. Similarly, people often adapt to the heaviness of suppressed emotions, making it their “new normal.”
Empowering Your Healing Journey
To heal and transform:
- Address subconscious links and programming in your mind.
- Reprogram your emotions to change your energy.
- Practice feeling better every day.
When you practice new feelings—happiness, lightness, positivity—they become part of who you are.
