Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore. After recovering from my own life-changing injury, it has become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that completely changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible — and the placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I’ll take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I’ll even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their minds. Then, I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy — to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello, and welcome to this week’s Quick IQ episode, where we talk about insights and questions. On today’s episode, I want to share with you a mind test, if you will — something you can do to gain even more awareness into the process of healing and life transformation. That’s where we’re going today.
There are two specific things we’re going to do in this episode. First, we’ll go through an exercise I call the DS Mind Test. And second, we’ll talk about something simple you can begin doing each morning to create real transformation in your life — because there are so many common mistakes people make when working with the mind that keep them stuck for years.
As you probably know, most people stay stuck on their healing journey for ten, twenty, even fifty years. I see this all the time. And when I look at what they’ve been doing, it’s usually clear — the things they’re doing are actually keeping them stuck. So today, we’ll talk about one of those things and something simple you can do instead to begin shifting your energy and transformation.
All right, let’s dive in. First and foremost: the exercise I mentioned.
The interactive exercise we’re going to do — the DS Mind Test — isn’t really a “test” per se. It’s a simple yet powerful exercise that adds another layer of awareness and insight. If you’ve ever seen me speak from stage before, you may recognize this, because I often do it live — it’s that profound. It’s also very silly — but incredibly enlightening. So stick with me through the end of it.
Before we start, I’ll invite you to close your eyes. But of course, if you’re driving — please don’t close your eyes! In that case, hit pause and come back later so you can fully experience it. It’s most effective when you can completely follow along and reflect on the insights that come from it.
So, if you’re ready, take a moment to relax your body. Close your eyes, breathe, and let your body soften.
Now, imagine that someone you love is making you your most favorite meal ever. They’re preparing it just for you — with love. Notice what feeling comes up for you. What emotion do you feel?
When I do this with live audiences, people often say things like: “I feel so loved,” or “I feel cared for,” or “I feel blessed and appreciated.” These are beautiful, loving emotions that arise naturally from this vision.
But sometimes, other emotions come up — like guilt or selfishness. Maybe a feeling of awkwardness or unworthiness. If that happens, that’s okay. Just notice it, and set it aside for now — we’ll come back to it later. For the majority of people, though, it’s a feeling of love, kindness, or connection.
Now, take a deep breath. Let that feeling go for a moment — completely clear it from your mind. Breathe. Reset. Good.
Now we’re going to shift into the second part — and yes, it’s going to be silly. But stay with me; it’s also profoundly revealing.
Again, close your eyes if you can. Relax. Breathe.
Imagine that you’re holding a perfect, shiny silver spoon in your hand. You take that silver spoon, scoop up a big spoonful of stinky doggy poo, and bring it toward your mouth — as if you’re about to eat it.
What emotion comes up for you?
I warned you — it’s ridiculous! But notice what happens in your body. Some people instantly say “Ew!” or “Disgusting!” or even feel like gagging. That’s the key insight we’re going to unpack.
Okay — clear that. Delete, delete, delete. Let’s reset with the smell of roses and lavender. A fresh, clean spoon. Deep breath. Clear that completely.
Now, let’s talk about why that simple (and silly) test is actually so powerful. There are several profound lessons here about how the mind works.
First, notice how just an imagined scenario — something that isn’t even real — can trigger a real, physical response in your body. Some people actually feel nauseous or start to gag, even though nothing physically happened. That right there shows how the mind can directly affect the body.
This is foundational. When I work with volunteers on the podcast — helping them release emotional energy that affects their physical pain — people sometimes ask, “How could emotions possibly affect the body?” Well, this is how. Even imagined emotions and thoughts can trigger physical reactions.
Second, this “disgust” reaction is actually programmed into us. You weren’t born thinking doggy poo was gross! Babies don’t have that reaction. In fact, if you’ve ever changed a baby’s diaper, you probably know you have to keep their hands away because they don’t know it’s dirty — they might even play with it. It’s not until we grow up and learn that it’s “gross” that the mind programs that response in.
So, what does that mean? It means this is an example of how certain responses — even from childhood — become programmed deep into our subconscious mind. And they stay there, automatically influencing our emotions and our body responses for the rest of our lives unless we actively reprogram them.
Now, here’s the most powerful takeaway: you could meditate for 10,000 hours, and you’d never get rid of that “doggy poo is gross” programming — unless you specifically targeted and changed that exact subconscious pattern. Meditation alone won’t erase that kind of emotional wiring.
Of course, in this case, that programming is something we want to keep — you don’t actually want to eat doggy poo! But what if that subconscious programming was connected to something painful from your past? What if it was tied to an early experience of rejection, hurt, or abandonment? Then that emotional wiring would continue to affect you, quietly shaping your health, relationships, and energy, even decades later.
This is why, when you see me working with volunteers on past episodes, I help them identify the specific emotional patterns in their subconscious mind — and then guide them in releasing and transforming those emotions. That’s how people achieve real, lasting, radical results. Because they’re not just meditating or thinking positively; they’re actually rewiring the deeper emotional programs that affect their body and energy.
So yes, the DS Mind Test — short for “Doggy Stuff Mind Test” — might be silly, but it’s also deeply revealing. It shows how easily the mind can trigger physical reactions, even from imagined scenarios, and how those emotional imprints from years ago can still influence us today.
When I was healing from my own injury, I meditated for years — thousands of hours — and still didn’t get results. That’s because the subconscious mind holds layers of programming that meditation alone doesn’t automatically change. Once I began working directly with the specific emotional patterns inside my mind, everything began to shift.
Now, remember earlier in the DS Mind Test when I asked you to picture someone making you your favorite meal? Most people feel love or warmth from that image. But some people — maybe you — might have felt guilt, undeserving, or discomfort. If that was you, this next insight is especially important.
That feeling of guilt or unworthiness isn’t just an emotion — it’s a deep subconscious pattern that can actually block your ability to receive. And it’s one of the most common emotional blocks I see in people who struggle to heal or create transformation.
If you found yourself feeling undeserving or guilty during that first visualization, this is something you’ll want to pay close attention to — because you do deserve to have a beautiful, joyful, healthy life. Authentic healing comes from shifting those deep feelings of unworthiness and replacing them with a genuine sense of love and deservingness.
Now, here’s where this connects to another common misunderstanding. So many people are told that to heal, they need to “feel gratitude.” And of course, gratitude is powerful. But when someone tries to feel grateful on top of unhealed feelings of guilt or undeserving — it can actually backfire.
Think about it: if someone who feels guilty for receiving suddenly tries to amplify gratitude for everything they have, what happens inside them? That feeling of guilt actually increases. They start to feel like they’re receiving too much, or that they haven’t earned it, or that they don’t deserve more blessings. And so, instead of expanding into abundance, their energy contracts.
I’ve seen this thousands of times. People meditate on gratitude, trying to “manifest” or “heal,” but because they haven’t transformed the underlying guilt or undeserving, it creates the opposite effect. It ends up attracting more struggle, frustration, or even self-sabotage — because their subconscious programming is still sending out the signal: “I don’t deserve this.”
So, the real key is to be deeply honest with yourself. Gratitude is beautiful, but it must be authentic. If there are underlying feelings of guilt, shame, or undeserving — those must be healed first. That’s where real transformation happens. When you authentically feel love and gratitude without inner conflict, that’s when your energy aligns and healing flows naturally.
Now let’s move into the second big insight from today’s episode — another common mistake that people make with the mind, and a simple shift that can help you start upleveling your health and your life.
All the time, I see people focusing on one emotional state: relaxation. They believe that being relaxed is the most spiritual or enlightened state to be in. They say things like, “I just need to relax,” or “I just want peace.” But while peace is valuable, relaxation is not where you want to stay. Let’s explore why.
Imagine your eight- or nine-year-old self. If you asked that younger version of you, “How do you want to feel when you grow up?” — would they have said, “I just want to be relaxed”? Probably not! You might have said you wanted to feel happy, excited, alive, full of laughter and connection.
And yet, as adults, many people lose that spark. They replace it with a desire to “just relax.” But emotions create momentum — they breed more of the same. So if you’re constantly aiming for relaxation, what kind of energy will your life hold? Calm, yes — but possibly also flat, stagnant, or uninspired. Even boredom has been linked to poor health outcomes and decreased vitality.
The truth is, the emotion that transforms your energy and your health isn’t relaxation — it’s aliveness. It’s joy. It’s love. It’s passion. Those are the feelings that light up your energy field and activate your body’s healing systems.
Let me illustrate. Imagine you’re driving somewhere and you’re running late. You feel anxious, tense, stressed. You’re gripping the steering wheel, wishing traffic would move faster. It doesn’t feel good, right?
Now picture a completely different scene. You’re driving down the freeway with your favorite music playing, the sun is shining, and you’re singing along. You feel happy, free, and in flow. You’re still driving — same physical action — but the energy you’re in is completely different. That’s the vibration you want to live in: joy, connection, and love for life.
So, here’s something simple you can start doing each morning. Instead of beginning your day with meditation aimed only at relaxation, focus on cultivating joyful energy. Feel gratitude and love, yes — but with an elevated, authentic emotion behind it.
You might take a quiet walk outside and feel the sun on your face. Smile as you think loving thoughts toward your family, your friends, and even the universe itself. Connect with that feeling of oneness — that natural buzz that comes from love. To me, that connection feels euphoric, like a natural high — a beautiful energy of unity with the Divine.
That’s the energy that heals and uplifts. That’s the vibration that breeds more health, happiness, and flow. So each morning, rather than just trying to relax, consciously create and embody that emotion of aliveness, love, and joy.
Because as you’ve seen in previous episodes, patterns breed more of the same. If your subconscious patterns are built on pain or rejection, those emotions keep repeating. But when you start wiring your patterns around love, happiness, and connection — your whole life transforms. Your health follows that emotional energy.
Now, I know that whenever I share that meditation alone isn’t enough to heal, people always ask, “Then what do I need to do?” Or when I explain that gratitude isn’t enough — they ask the same question: “Okay, then what’s next?”
Just last week, I hosted a live online training that thousands of people attended. It filled up so quickly that we actually reached the capacity limit of the platform! Because of that, I didn’t make a big public announcement to everyone on my mailing list — but I did go ahead and record the session for those who couldn’t attend live.
It’s about ninety minutes long, and people have been absolutely loving it. If you’re someone asking yourself, “What exactly do I need to do to heal?” or if you’re ready for deeper awareness and understanding, I want to invite you to watch that training. My team has placed the link right here in the show notes.
And by the way — in that training, we do a short version of the DS Mind Test together, but we go much deeper into how to reprogram your subconscious patterns for real, lasting results. It brings all of the pieces together to give you a clearer picture of how healing with your mind actually works.
Because ultimately, I want you to experience real transformation — to see actual results in your health and your life. The more each of us becomes empowered, the better our whole world becomes.
Before we wrap up today, I want to invite you to please share this episode. Share these insights — especially the DS Mind Test — with someone you love, someone you care about, or even someone you don’t know personally but who could benefit from a new perspective on healing.
Because the truth is, the more happy, healthy, and empowered our world becomes, the more beautiful this planet is for all of us. So share the love, and spread the energy of transformation.
And of course — make sure to smile today. Enjoy the day fully. Let yourself feel good and live with love, joy, and appreciation. I look forward to connecting with you on the next episode.
As a quick side note — the next volunteer episode will be a very special one. During the session, the volunteer’s transformation actually brought me to tears. It’s a deeply touching and powerful experience, and I can’t wait for you to hear it. So be sure to tune in — you won’t want to miss it.
Thank you for listening to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. People often reach out to share how these episodes have given them hope, touched their hearts, or helped them stay positive through challenging times. Some say they’ve awakened to a whole new level of awareness — realizing how truly incredible we all are.
If today’s episode touched your heart or expanded your mind, please share it with those you care about. As more people become empowered, we collectively raise the consciousness of our world — and that’s exactly what these demonstrations are designed to do: to show everyone what we are all capable of.
Now, each volunteer you hear on the show must follow through and reinforce their new mental programming to maintain their results. But the point is for you to see that you really can create rapid results — in your health and in your life — when you understand how to work with your mind.
You are incredible. Truly.
That said, I do want to be clear — most people won’t achieve results this quickly on their own. It looks easy when I demonstrate it because of the specific discoveries I’ve made about how the mind and body communicate. Remember, there’s so much more happening at a deeper level of the mind than most people realize.
If you’d like to send me questions or comments, visit me at BrandyGillmore.com. And if you’re currently experiencing physical pain and would like to volunteer on the show, you can sign up there as well.
Lastly, please remember: if you have any health issues, don’t avoid your doctors. Continue seeing them — and make it your goal to blow their minds with what you’re capable of through your mind. Because that’s what true empowerment looks like.
With love and light,
Brandy Gillmore
