Hello, and welcome to this week's quick IQ episode. We're where we talk about insights and questions. And today we have a really great question regarding the topic of menopause. One listener writes in and she says, I've been watching women struggle with menopause and they seem to expect it to be difficult and sad and hard.

And I'm not there yet, but it's got me thinking about patterns and belief and Brandy's work. I'm wondering, is it really as bad as people say, or is it just because they believe that it's going to be that way? Brandy. This is just a question for the podcast because as we go through it in England, they are even doing courses for men in the workplace to support the difficult phase of menopause in women.

All right, so let's go ahead and unpack this. And I love this question just because all too often we can feel very stuck. in our health and told that we're powerless. But if we stop and think about it for a moment, our minds and our emotions and our mindset can definitely impact our hormones. You know, even if you think about in our normal menstrual cycle throughout our lives, I mean, if women go through a period of time where we're really stressed, we can skip a cycle.

We could actually not have our cycle for several months if we're really stressed. In fact. That's where I was during my injury. I missed my cycle for quite a while. And so point being is that we can see very clearly that our minds impact our hormones. And of course, it's not just estrogen and progesterone when we stop and think about it for a moment.

I mean, we know that love, for example, or cuddling, connection, bonding can help increase oxytocin. Or we even know that stress can increase cortisol. So we know that our minds and emotions can definitely impact our hormones and biochemistry in a big way. And so when we stop and think about it, that's one way we can see that our minds, our mindset affects our hormones.

Now there's more to this, especially when it comes to menopause, because even if we stop and think about. What occurs during menopause, you know, what initially happens is that as we're going throughout our lives in a normal Menstrual cycle and going throughout our lives our ovaries are what help produce progesterone and estrogen and Also our adrenal glands.

Now what happens is that once we reach menopause Our ovaries stop producing so much estrogen and progesterone and instead we rely even more on the adrenal glands. So if we think about that, you know, stress, adrenal glands. So we can see very much how stress can be even more impactful because the body bulk of the job of creating hormones has to do with the adrenals.

And by the way, just kind of a quick side note on this whole topic. What a lot of people don't realize is that cholesterol actually helps turn into hormones like progesterone and testosterone. So that's a whole nother topic and factor. Because a lot of what happens is that some people may have high levels of cholesterol.

So then they take some type of medication to lower cholesterol. However, most people don't realize that cholesterol is supposed to be turning into hormones. And so kind of when you stop and look at it for a moment, some people have a lot of extra cholesterol and deficient hormones. And then, of course, on traditional methods, people are trying to, you know, get rid of the extra cholesterol, which would be similar to you know, looking at a dinner table and saying, well, there's no food and then going over to the fridge and saying, wow, there's so much food in the fridge.

Let's throw it out. It's too much. It's going to go bad. And of course, if the food from the refrigerator is being moved to the dinner table, then. People can eat it, you know, and so point being is exactly that is technically cholesterol turning into hormones is Another key component as well. And so we can see from this just the big picture.

Is that? Absolutely. Yes, we can see that stress impacts hormones in a major way Now if we unpack this even further when we look at what to do with this information You know, if we think about every past episode on the podcast where, you know, I might be working with somebody who has pain and to release their pain or health issues or whatnot, what I'm doing with them is I'm helping them to identify the specific problem.

You know, what is the specific stress? What is the specific thing that is going on and transforming that? Now, of course, in most cases. There's multiple factors, which is the reason you'll hear me working with a volunteer and we'll address, you know, multiple aspects that are going on in their mind or multiple patterns, if you will, in their subconscious mind, and then helping them to see and begin transforming those.

And so. It works in the same way. And I have worked with women who have had major issues with hormones, where they went through deep depression or even phases of being suicidal because their hormones were so far removed. off and out of whack that they really felt, you know, extremely depressed. And by the way, I've seen people on bioidentical hormone replacement who have done that very thing where they're just feeling irate or depressed.

I mean, honestly, I have seen that so many times and I have so much compassion because when our hormones are off. It can definitely impact your mood and, I mean, simultaneously though, this can happen with every single health issue, if you will, in a different way, you know. In my own life, with my injury, my subconscious emotions that were connected to my injury had to do with fear.

When it was. Part of the issue was fear. And, of course, as I got injured, my fear went up exponentially. Not only that, but then I became frustrated and irritable and, you know, in extreme pain. And so it, for me, I spent so much time just by myself just wanting to try to relax and calm my mind and calm myself.

And until I figured out, of course, How to heal myself. And I just, I mean, I literally spent most every waking moment I could researching and trying to figure out how to heal, which of course led to these incredible breakthroughs of what I do now. But point being is that. If you are somebody who is suffering in this situation, then get it, I understand, and getting yourself out of it, um, creating that real change is going to be key, and it can feel like a catch 22, where you have these feelings of maybe feeling really frustrated or agitated or depressed.

And then also needing to get out of that because the more you're in those feelings of stress and frustration and depression, the more it can impact your hormones and it just becomes this vicious cycle. And so my biggest suggestion is if you are in that situation to not give up. And definitely change, empower yourself, because that is part of the problem is that we hear that things are horrible.

And so we do. We expect them to be horrible and we think that there's nothing that we can do, but that's not true. And again, looking at the big picture, when we noticed that even in our twenties, if we're stressed out. So that can definitely impact our hormones. And if you think about it as well, you know, even when a woman is pregnant, if she has a lot of stress, the body can then miscarry and it won't be able to, to maintain the pregnancy.

And so point being, we can see in many ways. How much the mind can influence our hormones and impact us. And so the takeaways that I really would like for you to take from this episode are first and foremost, that we're not powerless, which is an incredible feeling that we can. change our health, that we can change our lives, that we're not stuck.

And so to me, I have to say in my own life, that feeling of being able to take back power of my own health and my own life was invaluable and just incredible. And so I would urge you to take that feeling in knowing that you're the power. And then also, if you are somebody who is dealing with a lot of stress or negativity or having hormonal issues, then I would definitely identify what is really going on and genuinely transform that.
