Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life changing injury, it's become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made. that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I'll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind and body. Your emotions and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself and your life.
Let's begin.
Hello, and welcome to this week's quick IQ episode where we talk about insights and questions. And today I have a very powerful insight slash kind of question, if you will, that actually came from social media. Now, before we dive into it, you know, I want to say that all of the time. there are beliefs that people have, you know, spiritual beliefs that actually keep them stuck or keep them from healing or even, I can't tell you how many times I've seen people who take on new spiritual beliefs and they don't realize that it then starts sabotaging their life or putting it, you know, in the wrong direction.
And I just can't tell you how often I see that. And so for that reason, I want to unpack One that actually, again, came up on social media, and so if you saw a post on my social media last week, there was one by Oprah, and her quote read, doing the best. at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.
And even with this quote, you know, doing the best in this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment. It's actually helpful for healing, for transformation. So any of the quotes that are posted on my page, there's, Typically a greater meaning to it, you know, that's why they're there is for that reason and the same is true with this quote Which I'll go ahead and unpack, you know The deeper meaning and the reason that I chose this quote to go on my social media, but we'll unpack that as well but first The thing that I want to address is the comment that was on it.
You know, this beautiful, beautiful being. She messaged in a comment and she said, in response to this quote, she said, next moment, question mark, Oprah should know the only thing that matters is the present moment. Now, of course, the present moment is very important and you want to live in the present moment, you know, and if you've heard past episodes about people kind of checking out it.
It's important. It's important. You know, spending too much time in meditation or the fifth dimension or things like that, you always hear me say, you know, being in the present moment is extremely important. Absolutely. But there's that saying, you know, that teaching that says, The only thing that matters is the present moment and this belief, if you take this in a lot or you ascribe to this belief, it can actually keep you from healing and keep you from living your life to its fullest.
You know, whether it's love and connection and, and relationships or maybe anything, what you're wanting in life and what your soul is wanting in life. And it can also create even a subconscious feeling of fear. That most people don't realize. So, just believing and ascribing to this can impact your energy more than most people would realize.
And so, for that reason, I just want to unpack this. And, by the way, when this beautiful being left this comment on social media, it was just, it was perfect and divine timing for so many reasons. And it was just a great reminder to bring up this topic just because there are so many people that do have this belief, and so I just want to thank her for bringing this up, and because this is such a common teaching, I want to go ahead and unpack this comment in a few different ways.
You know, first and foremost, the best way to kind of illustrate what can happen with your brain is this, is first and foremost, if we talk about how this can connect to fear, it's this. It's that I've worked with people who've brought this thought in over and over and over. They've absorbed this thought that, you know, the only thing that matters is the present moment, and they've brought it in, and they've really, uh, meditated, if you will, on this specific thought, and specific awareness.
Now, what can happen, is that it creates a subconscious feeling of, of stress, or anxiety, or, or scared, or fear, however it shows up for each person, but, The easiest way to really explain what happens at a deeper level in the brain is to give you an example. And so let's say for a moment, let's say you're driving on the freeway and there is a ton of fog in front of you.
Like you can't see past the end of your car. There is a ton of fog. It's so foggy and cloudy that you can't even see. Now, how would you be driving in that case? You know, in that situation, usually you're kind of like stressed about driving, you're kind of gripping the wheel a little tighter, you're sitting up straighter, you're driving a lot slower.
I mean, if you've ever driven in heavy, heavy fog, you're, you know, you're really trying to see anything that you can and pay close, close, close attention, right? And, and, you know, you're uncertain. You've got to really pay attention to look to kind of see what's going on. Now, I'm Notice the feeling of stress.
If you're just in your moment, just in your vehicle, just paying attention to just where you are, there's a level of stress if you can't see a bit forward. But, if you think about instead, you're driving in your car on the freeway, and the road is really, really clear. It's beautiful out, it's sunny, it's just gorgeous, and you can see the road ahead, and it all looks really great.
The end. You're excited to get to your destination. So you're going somewhere that you're excited to go, and you're not stressing. You're not in an angst to get there, but instead you're excited to get to your destination and you're also enjoying the drive. That is ultimately the feeling that you want.
Yes, you absolutely want to be present. And you also want to have something to look forward to. So if you're on your way to a great destination, beautiful, and you're also enjoying the drive. Maybe you've got your radio up, or you're talking with a friend on the way, and you're enjoying the drive. That's the feeling that you want to have in life, is that you don't want to say that the only thing that matters is the present moment, because then what it creates is a few things.
It tells your brain. to say that the rest of everything is unimportant. And now if part of your brain is saying, Hey, that's unimportant. Hey, the future's unimportant. And the other part of your brain needs to know what's going on. It kind of has an idea. Like that level of uncertainty of what's going to happen next can create a sense of stress in your subconscious.
You know, a strong feeling of not knowing, just like, driving in the fog, if you can see clearly. Now, of course, in life, you may not see your future like that open road and see it as clearly as that. But when you have a positive expectation of where you're going, it does, it creates a vision moving forward.
So you have that, that vision moving forward of what you're focused on and where you're going. And of course, you don't want to just live in the future either. You want to both enjoy the present moment and also have something to look forward to. And as I mentioned, this is important for healing. You know, when you think about healing for a moment, you'll want to have Something to look forward to in life, a sense of optimism.
And maybe that is falling in love. Maybe it's, you know, what you're wanting to do in life. Maybe it is having kids. Maybe it's a celebration, whatever it is. You want to have something to look forward to. That is important for healing. And so you can see that even though this feels like a very small distinction, it's actually really important for healing and beyond that.
You know, if you think about life transformation, you know, you've heard before, our thoughts help create our lives. And so imagine for a moment. If you're trying to get a vision about what it is that you want in life. So you're trying to visualize the relationship that you're wanting, or the job that you're wanting, or the trip that you're wanting, or something.
You're trying to visualize what it is that you're wanting in life. Okay? So let's say you're wanting to do that, and you have this conflicting belief that says, The only thing that should matter to you is the present moment. The only thing that should matter to you is the present moment. What happens? Is those beliefs can interact and interfere, meaning that if you have a belief that says the only thing that matters is the present moment.
and you're trying to picture the future and what it is that you're wanting, then what happens is your brain can block you and say, no, you shouldn't be thinking in that way. That shouldn't matter to you. That shouldn't matter to you. And so what happens all the time is I'll see people who who are literally very stuck in life and even when they go to want to change their life, to, to enjoy more, to love more, to have more, to be more, whatever it is, they have this conflicting belief that says, nope, the only thing that should matter to you is the present moment.
And so notice how this little belief that you hear all of the time It can actually block you from healing, it can block you from getting a vision, it can even block you from making plans in your life, which may sound absolutely crazy, but that's how the brain works. And what I mean by that is I have worked with people who have spent a lot of time immersing themselves in spiritual studies, but didn't filter anything, you know, just kind of took in everything without saying, does this really make sense?
Does it not make sense? Is this good for me to believe or is it not good for me to believe, you know, that sort of thing. And so what happened is that, you know, they took on this belief that says, the only thing that matters is the present moment. Now, what ends up happening is that they literally try to go make plans for something three months from now, five months from now.
And it's like, they feel disoriented doing it or like dyslexic trying to do it because it is so Quote unquote wrong for their brain to do. And so what'll happen is they'll try to do it and either they feel disoriented or they feel really tired, or they feel like it's really, really challenging to make any type of plans.
And basically what they experience is like a mental block to it. And so, again, it just feels really hard to do. And, of course, when I've worked with them in the past, what I've done is I've just helped them to shift the block, you know, shift that belief that the only thing that matters is this moment, and instead, you know, use that car example, that car analogy, of, hey, looking forward to your destination is great.
And being in the present moment is great. You could have both. And then when they get that in and we really put it into their mind, then it feels easy for their mind to start planning more things. And of course it depends on what all blocks that a person has. But my point from this is just that if you have this belief, you'll definitely want to transform it and change it.
And by the way, I can tell you that I also, I worked with a woman who, on this very topic, felt like it, quote unquote, wasn't spiritual to think ahead, wasn't spiritual to not just be in the present, that the only thing that should matter to anybody. is the present moment. Just very, very strong in that belief, and ended up having a bunch of anxiety, and fear, and so much uncertainty towards her future, and there was a part of her human self that was like, oh my god, like I don't even know what I'm doing in my future, and I'm uncertain, and sabotaging her life, and by the way, she started out Having plenty of abundance, and a great relationship, and a great life, and ultimately was on a mode of sabotage where she had been losing a lot of that, you know, and her relationship fell apart, and all of these things, and she found herself in a place where she was just, again, in anxiety.
and angst in life. And so point being is that I want to invite you to take a look at this in your life and make sure you don't have this in your mind that says that the only thing that matters is the present. But instead, I want to invite you to maybe alter that belief and instead look at it and say, you know, what matters the most is that I'm excited about life and my future.
And That I live fully in the present every day. Okay. And so that is the combination excited about life, excited about your future and fully being present in the moment. That's what you want to get into your mind. That is a beautiful. combination. Alright, so by the way, taking it back to Oprah's original quote, where she mentioned doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment, and again, the reason that I shared this specific quote on social, is because is because it really is so true.
You know, all of the time people do want a better life or a loving relationship or whatever it is. And they're not living their best selves in the current moment. And I'll use a relationship example. You know, I've seen people before where let's say they're, they're being kind of passive aggressive. in their relationships and combative and whatnot in their relationships and then at the same time they're going gosh i really want to fall in love i really want to find mrs writer mr writer whomever that is i really want a relationship and yet in the relationships they're currently in They're not really being their best self.
They're not really fully being an integrity and that energy can block the relationship from coming in. Because if you think about it, you know, let's say that you are looking for a relationship and you're vibrating with just love and you have positive patterns and you're prepared to attract a wonderful partner.
You've cleaned up your patterns, all of that, and you're aligned with the right person. A partner who's absolutely amazing, but let's say that there's somebody who wants to be with you, but they're in all these negative patterns. They're in the negativity. They're being passive aggressive or this, that, the other.
They're not going to be in vibrational alignment with you to be in a wonderful relationship. However. Let's say instead that person is living their best self, is lifting, is being positive, is in a great space, is positive and in good integrity in their relationships, then they can put themselves in a great place to be in a positive relationship.
And of course, this example has to do with relationship, but this is everything from business relationships to healing, to connections, I mean, everything. So, Truly, doing your best in this moment does put you in the best place for the next moment. And notice that the example that I gave regarding relationships wasn't just about only changing on the inside.
It was, okay, well, how are you treating people? How are you showing up in your relationships? And so both are true. Showing up and living fully and putting yourself. in the best place for the next moment requires you to definitely put yourself in the best place in this moment. And by the way, I know that there are a lot of people who struggle with perfectionism.
So I'm not saying you need to be perfect, but what I am saying is that being your best self really does put you in the best place for the next moment. And, uh, By the way, even on that note, expanding even further, if you're somebody who shows up as your best self today, and tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and you continue to show up as your best self, it just gets it programmed into your being.
You continue to elevate. yourself and your life by doing exactly that. It just becomes who you are, you know, and so all the time I'll have people ask, you know, how do I become my best self? How do I really live my best life? And of course it takes looking at things like this and really Reprogramming it in the subconscious mind, because they're, they're so hidden, and a lot of times, by the way, when things like this are impacting your subconscious mind, most people don't even realize it's there.
It's not like it comes up and it flags you down, or it jumps out, or, Like you go to plan and it just says, Hey, you can't do that. You know, it shows up with feeling tired or lethargic, even, or feeling dizzy when you try to go do something or avoidance of something. I mean, just, it shows up in a variety of different ways.
And so it's not always obvious, but when you take things in your subconscious mind and you really just. program them. It changes the way you're showing up. It changes what you're capable of, what your mind is capable of. And again, as you're living your best in this moment, It then just continues to open up more and more as you move forward in life.
And when you're in that flow, it just makes you feel more empowered, more full of life, more energized. I mean, it's just, it's an empowering, wonderful feeling. And so, On that note, by the way, please do make a point to hit the share button on this episode. You know, share it with somebody you love, somebody you care about, or somebody you don't even know, or even somebody you know who has gotten a bit of mixed messaging, who has been deep into spiritual practices for a while, who has gotten a bit of mixed messaging.
You know, make sure to just hit the share button, you know, the more empowered and successful and loving and happy that every person is. The better this world is for all of us.
