Throughout my work in healing, there have been different “waves” of misunderstandings that have kept people stuck or even completely (accidentally) misguided people on their healing journey.
Today I share with you the #1 fastest growing misconception that is keeping people more stuck than ever… and also setting many people back as far as their health and happiness.
Unfortunately, many people don’t even realize it’s happening.
In many cases of misinformation, it can sound so compelling that it’s easy to get sucked in.
For example, there used to be a narrative that said, “all you have to do is meditate, believe that you are healed and have gratitude and you will heal.” And, while gratitude is, of course, a great thing, by now many people have realized that this approach does not actually work and that it takes more than just gratitude to truly heal.
I personally was sucked into this misconception during my healing for several years.
With today’s misconception, it’s not only misguided, but it can also set you backward.
That said, from my heart to yours, I wanted to share with you the latest growing misconception that, I see a lot of people getting sucked into AND of course, a simple way to get yourself out.
I hope you can use these insights to take your healing to the next level.

Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandi Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life. Let’s begin.
Hello and welcome. It is so wonderful to connect with you. You know, I want to start by saying just again, I just love you guys. I have the best podcast listening tribe ever… ever, um, ever, ever. And so just—I am so impressed. You know, I know that the last topic was really sensitive, but you guys got it and learned from it and understood the importance of it.
And that was my biggest hope from my heart: that you got it, because the information is so powerful. And we are going to build on this information today about misconceptions that get people stuck. And by the way, that’s how I went through my injury. I wasn’t emotionally attached to the data one way or another. I just wanted whatever worked. And whatever made sense, I followed it. And that’s what led me to get the amazing results that I got in my own life, and to be able to help other people tap into their power and get the results that they do by sharing these insights.
And you guys just got it. And I’m so impressed. And I also received a ton of emails from people just saying, “I get it. And the power is inside of me, and you are so right.” I just—I love that. Because the truth of it is exactly that. I mean, the power is inside each one of us. And I truly feel like every person in life should feel empowered. And that doesn’t mean that people never need some type of help from somebody else, but ultimately, every person stepping into their own power… to me, that really is the picture of health, of an incredible life.
And so, anyway, point being, I am so impressed. And just, thank you for being you. And for being truth seekers. I just love it. And today is another truth bomb that may be a little bit sensitive to some people, but for most people, it’s going to be absolutely eye-opening. And it’s another misconception that I see that’s hurting people. And I would say it is one of the biggest growing problems right now in the healing space that I am seeing on my end, where I’m having a ton of people coming into classes that are stuck or their health is declining rapidly because of the misconception that we’re going to talk about today.
And so that’s where we’re going to go. And by the way, I do want to say that I know that a lot of times when it comes to information or, you know, doing something, healing, whatever it is, I know in our world it can feel very confusing because you can hear one person saying one thing and then somebody else saying the exact opposite thing.
And I totally understand that also. And so the information that I share with you today, I am going to back it up with data so you can clearly see it. And so it makes logical sense. And what I’d strongly recommend as you’re on this journey with your mind and understanding healing is that you’re going to want to be very careful about the information that you do take in and make sure that it’s true. You know that you take it in and you know that, okay, this has got to be valid information.
And the key that I have used to doing that is to make sure that I can see evidence of it somewhere. And it doesn’t have to be the exact thing, but just somewhere that you can see some type of evidence. You know, and actually, for example, if you think about the regular weekly podcast episodes—on most of them, I’m coaching people how to use their mind to release pain.
Or if you think about the recent one with the art teacher at the university who had the frozen shoulder and coaching her to use her mind to get her shoulder moving—or all kinds of things. When you stop and think about it, for most people this sounds crazy, but if you stop and think about where could we see evidence that this could really be possible, we could look at multiple personality disorder.
A person can be in different personalities and have different ailments, different pains, asthma, allergies, pain—all kinds of things. Even be blind in one personality and be able to see when they’re in a different personality or alter, as you would call it. But, you know, when they’re in one alter compared to another, a person can have different ailments and different things going on.
And even if you think about the past episode where I worked with the woman who was 80 percent blind and we worked with her mindset—and her vision was able to come back, which I know sounds really crazy to a lot of people. And we can also see that with multiple personality disorder, that has also happened as well.
So there’s just a lot more going on with the mind than a lot of people realize. But we can see some evidence of it. Or even the placebo—we can all see that we have power in our minds to create healing results, though it works a lot differently than most people realize. But either way, point being, we can see evidence of all of these things all around us.
And we can see that not just from evidence of data all around, but even—if you think back to episode number 10 with the woman who had the tumor in her throat—there’s evidence because the MRI showed the tumor, and then the MRI showed the tumor was gone.
And I could go on and on and on with all kinds of things, but point being, anytime something is true, you should be able to see some type of evidence of it in our world. And so having that open mind to be curious about both expansion—you know, looking outside of the box and having an open mind for the next level—and then also being able to look around and say, okay, where can we see evidence that supports this new way of thinking?
And when you can move in that way through life, it’s really helpful because then it can help make everything even more effective and just get better results. And being able to question something from all angles is so powerful. And again, that’s exactly what I did.
Even when you stop and think about it—even when I started thinking about, “Okay, we can see that stress affects the physical body. We know that. That has been proven over and over and over again.” Sure, I could see that, and I also questioned where is this not?
Meaning, I could look at it from the other side and say, wait a second, there are plenty of people who have very stressful jobs—officers, military, all kinds of people—who aren’t sick. How is that possible?
And so that’s what I did. I was able to look at both sides. And that’s when I began to realize in my research that it takes multiple emotions.
So, you know, you’ve probably heard me say this before at some point, that it’s kind of like if somebody is trying to make cake and they have flour—they can’t make cake. But if you take flour and you mix it with eggs and butter and yada yada yada—or vegan eggs and butter, whatever—you mix it with a recipe, then you have cake.
And in the same way, it always takes a recipe in the subconscious mind to link up to some type of ailment going on. And that was a huge breakthrough in my work for healing myself and also helping others.
That said, as we go through this, I would ask you to please keep an open mind, just because the information that we’re going to talk about—I know that a lot of people have fallen into this misconception, and more and more people are doing so every day.
And you may be this person and you may not. But if you have, then I would strongly suggest just kind of thinking about the data, thinking about this information that I’m about to share with an open mind.
Just because, again, it is the biggest growing misconception that I see with healing that is causing more and more problems. And there are several of them, don’t get me wrong, but this is just the biggest one that I am seeing that is causing a lot of problems in people. And a lot of healers have become the source of this information.
And, of course, I don’t want to point any blame towards healers because the truth of it is, I have never met a healer who wanted to hurt people — ever. You know, not intentionally, ever. And so that said, if you are a healer, please know that this information is not meant to be hurtful at all. My hope is that it helps on this beautiful journey.
And if it is something that you are doing, then you’ll want to make sure to rethink it and see if you can change things in a different way. That said, I know that there’s a lot of prefacing around this, and that is because all of the time I get people who are kind of triggered by this — even though it may not seem like a big deal to a lot of people.
But I can tell you that every week since I’ve been doing this work publicly, people are triggered by this information. Healers typically are. And you might think it’s crazy — and if you think that, I’m with you. I absolutely agree.
And the information is this: basically, a lot of people are saying that they feel like we should feel all of the emotions of the rainbow, so to speak — to allow ourselves time to really grieve and go into the negativity.
So if something does happen, allow yourself time for a period of time to just grieve, or allow yourself time to just be in the negative. And for a lot of people, they might think, “Well, you should do that. That’s what’s being kind to yourself.”
And others would say, “Wait a second, lift yourself — get out of the negative.” And some other people would say, “Wait, people are triggered by this?” And I would say yes — all of the time.
I can tell you: I have emails and messages in my support inbox right now of people messaging in saying, “Shouldn’t you just allow yourself time to just be down and to just be in the negative and to just grieve and to just be there for a while?”
Or another person who’s literally in my support inbox right now who’s saying that she doesn’t believe that you should change anger — that it’s right to feel angry, that you should feel angry about injustices. That if somebody does something wrong to you, you should feel angry and that anger is healthy to feel.
Now, if you stop and think about it for a moment, there is no data that supports that it’s healthy to go into the negative or it’s healthy to let yourself “grieve” in that way. In fact, the data shows exactly the opposite.
If you’re familiar with the widowhood effect — where when one spouse dies, the partner can die very shortly after — the highest death rate is in that first week, and also in the first three months.
So if somebody is telling you, “Just let yourself grieve and go into the negative”… well, that’s based on whatever spiritual beliefs they may have, but it’s not based on data.
You know, if you think about the widowhood effect, there’s years and years of data showing that the death rate is highest in the first three months. And so a practitioner who tells someone to “give yourself a few months to grieve and just be in that negative place”… well, that’s not aligned with the data.
Instead, what you want to do is do little things to start making yourself feel better — support yourself, be loving to yourself, put some effort toward lifting yourself. Does anybody expect that it will be perfect and flawless and you’re just going to be grinning the next day? No. But you want to give it your all.
Or even when somebody says, “You should feel angry — that’s how you stand up for yourself, and anger is healthy.” Well, again, data doesn’t support that. Even in general optimism or emotional vitality — you know, there was a study done at Harvard by Laura Kubzanski over 15 years, with around 6,000 people — and they found that people with the highest emotional vitality had about a 20% decrease in heart disease.
And if you think about heart disease for a moment — that’s the number one cause of death in the U.S. and worldwide. And just by having that general emotional vitality, she was able to see significant differences in the data.
She even suggested from that study that emotional vitality can help reduce the onset of heart disease.
And again, you might be somebody listening to this who’s thinking, “Of course you want to go into the positive,” or you might be someone thinking, “Oh my God, well, I’ve had plenty of healers before tell me that I should just sit with the negative.” And I see that all the time.
But even if you think about the regular episodes where you see somebody shift out of pain — you can see that there’s a positive benefit to getting out of negative emotions as quickly as possible.
Now, what I’m seeing from people in my classes are people who have been through some type of trauma or problem or even loss of a loved one — and unfortunately, they’re coming in with health issues. And they’ve gone to some healer who doesn’t know about emotions and the mind and how it all works, who tells them to sit with the grief.
And they don’t realize that they’re giving that person harmful advice. Like, you don’t want to have people sit in the negative. Of course that’s not saying that people won’t experience the emotions of loss. But it’s important for a person to have a desire to lift themselves.
And unfortunately, what’s happening is that there’s becoming this belief in the spiritual communities that it’s “more spiritual” to sit with negative emotions — to feel the entire rainbow of emotions.
And what’s happening is that people are getting locked into the illness, and also feeling like it would be “unspiritual” to change.
And thank God, a lot of times I can show people — as they shift the negativity — that their pain goes away. And they can see it. And when they see that change, they start thinking, “Oh wait, then what I was told by XYZ person can’t be correct, because I can see that I’m out of pain now.”
And I see people have that experience all the time. You know, if you think about the regular podcast episodes — where let’s say somebody says, “Oh, well, I was told to sit with my anger” — and I’ll see someone like that who has maybe a level eight of pain somewhere in their body. And I say, “Okay, let’s just try and see what would happen if you shift out of that anger.”
And then of course, they’ll take a moment to start shifting and letting go of the anger. And as they do — they can see that their pain goes away.
So from that, you can see that it’s not just me saying let go of your anger — the body is saying, “This anger is causing a problem.” And as they release it, they can see that change for themselves.
And speaking of that, I know this is different from what a lot of people believe. A lot of people have a belief that says you should hold on to the emotions. And for that reason, if you are somebody who is feeling conflicted or triggered by this information, I get it. I totally understand.
There were things that I had believed going into my injury that kept me very, very stuck. And so from my heart to yours, I hope that this becomes expansive for your mind.
And, you know, I mentioned earlier episode number 10, where there was the beautiful woman who had had a tumor in her throat, and her and I worked for an hour and 15 minutes, and she was able to shift everything radically. I mean, she radically shifted her emotions.
And when she showed up for surgery the next day, the tumor was gone — and that was verified from the ENT. So her surgery was canceled.
If you think about it for a moment — in her case, she had that tumor suddenly show up in the middle of all of these fires here in Southern California. And so her tumor was part of that trauma response.
And unfortunately, of course, a lot of healers would say, “Well, just allow yourself to be in the negative and experience what’s going on.” But when her and I worked, I said, “You know, let’s shift out of this quickly to be able to get this tumor gone.”
And that’s exactly what she did. She’s amazing. I have so much respect for this woman. And if by chance you’ve missed that episode and you’re still conflicted about how fast you should shift emotions, I’d strongly recommend going to listen to episode number 10.
She’s a beautiful woman and has been around the block with all kinds of healing methods. She used to run her own imprint for Simon and Schuster for conscious books — so she’s definitely seen all types of healing modalities. And we talk about that in episode number 10.
But what helped her was creating that radical change in her emotions and her mindset. And she was amazed. She didn’t think it was even possible.
And again, from my heart, I know that some people are going to feel uneasy about the idea of changing emotions rapidly. Because when we stop and think about it for a moment — creating a radical shift in our emotions is not something we see really anywhere in our culture.
Which is, of course, also why the healing results that I get with people are thought to be impossible. Even if you think about every single episode where I show someone how to release their own pain — it’s not because I’m so amazing, it’s because we are all amazing.
I’m simply coaching someone on how to use their mind in a different way than most people normally do in our culture. And if you want different results, you’ve got to do something different.
So from this, my biggest suggestion is that there are four primary takeaways.
First and foremost, if you are somebody who has heard that you’re supposed to sit with all of your negative emotions and just be with them, then my biggest suggestion is to look up the data.
Look up the widowhood effect and notice that based on data, the first three months — and even the first week — have the highest death rate. That’s not all about the widowhood effect, but it shows clearly that you don’t want to sit with negative emotions longer than you have to.
The best time to start shifting out of negative emotions is as soon as you can. Negative emotions of all kinds can impact you, and that’s what I see regularly — not just with the widowhood effect but in many ways.
You can also notice there is no evidence anywhere that says sitting in negative emotions or depression or grief is positive for your health. That data doesn’t exist.
If you are somebody who has believed that it’s best to really sit with all of your emotions, give yourself permission to let them go and start moving into the positive — to begin feeling that shift.
You don’t want to lie to yourself or bury emotions, but you do want to allow yourself to feel happy, to start moving into the positive.
If you’ve been in a negative place, I invite you to decide how you want to feel and start bringing in those new feelings.
A lot of times, what I’ll have someone do is bring in new, positive feelings before going back to dissolve the negative ones. It’s easier to dissolve the negative once you’re already moving into a happier place.
And even if you’re not somebody stuck in deep negativity, maybe this is just a moment for you to reflect and ask: “Is there a negative pattern in my life I’ve been repeating?”
Maybe you’ve been getting frustrated a lot. Maybe that’s been a pattern for years. Maybe now is the time to shift it.
If you’re somebody who is new to this podcast — first, welcome. I love that you’re here.
And I’d strongly recommend looking at the information on the widowhood effect or broken heart syndrome and seeing that staying in negative emotions after any type of negative event is not what you want to do. Instead, you want to work on lifting yourself in a loving, supportive way.
And if you’re new, I would also invite you to go listen to a past episode and notice where I’m working with volunteers — and how they’re able to shift out of pain simply by shifting out of negative emotions.
And by the way, you might be somebody who’s here who’s saying, “Well, of course you want to shift out of the negative ASAP.” And I love that. And clearly it means you haven’t been in the spiritual communities where this messaging has become so common — this idea of just sitting in the negative and giving yourself a period of time to grieve or be in the negative without trying to change it.
Because that narrative is becoming more and more widespread. And so at least now it’s something that you know ahead of time — and that’s great, because then you can protect your way of thinking.
And I would also invite you to, of course, look and see if there’s any negative pattern in your life that you’d be willing to start changing. Be willing to transform it into something positive.
And so that’s my biggest suggestion: to see how you can implement some of this in your life. Maybe it’s allowing yourself to feel positive again. Maybe it’s moving out of negativity faster. Maybe it’s changing a pattern. Maybe it’s making sure whatever you’re doing makes logical sense to you.
I say that because again, I have been seeing so many people start taking a downward spiral because they were told to sit in the negative — and it’s negatively impacting their health and their life.
And again, if you look around at all the available data, there is nothing that says that after something negative happens you should sit in the negative for a while and that it will be good for your health or your life. In fact, the opposite is true.
And so on that note, maybe you can put on a happy song — something that lifts your spirits even more. Even if you’re already happy, maybe you’re taking it to the next level. But do something that makes you feel good.
And as always, if you could share this episode with somebody you love, somebody you care about, or somebody you feel has been stuck in the negative — so maybe they can give themselves permission to move through it that much faster — it is good for our health, our vitality, our lives, and of course, your happiness.
And on that note, I wish you a most wonderful, happy, and healthy rest of your day, and I look forward to connecting with you on the next episode. I’ll see you there.
Thank you for listening to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. All of the time people reach out and say how much these episodes have given them hope or touched their heart or helped them stay positive in hard times — or even woken them up to a completely new level of awareness of how amazing we all really are.
If today’s episode touched your heart or expanded your mind in any way, please do me a favor and be sure to share it with those you care about or those you know who really need it. As more people become empowered, it truly can change our world for the better.
That is the point and the power of these demonstrations: to create a radical shift in our world consciousness by showing everyone what we are all capable of.
And of course, each volunteer will really need to follow through to reinforce their programming to maintain their results. But the point is for you to see that you really can create rapid results in your health and your life if you truly understand and use your mind. You’re incredible.
I do want to be clear, though, that most people will not get results this fast on their own. I make it look very easy because of the discoveries that I made. But you’ll want to remember that there is so much more going on in our minds at a deeper level than people realize.
That said, if you want to send me any questions or comments, come visit me on my website at brandygillmore.com. And if you’re currently experiencing physical pain and would like to be a volunteer on the show, you can sign up there as well.
Lastly, please remember: if you do have any health issues, you won’t want to avoid your doctors. Instead, continue seeing them, and make it your goal to blow their minds with what you’re capable of with your mind. Thank you.
