In this episode, Brandy works with a wonderful volunteer named Carla, whose chronic pain has been a constant struggle and has been holding her back from the very things she wants to do. As the session unfolds, Carla begins to see how her body has been reflecting deeper emotional patterns. What’s beautiful is that as she makes these changes to heal herself, she realizes it will hugely uplevel her life. In fact, she even begins to refer to it as Carla 3.0—or even Carla 5.0—because it feels like stepping into the next level of who she’s meant to be.
With Brandy’s guidance, Carla experiences a powerful breakthrough, moving toward a freer, lighter, and more empowered version of herself.
This episode is a reminder that:
Carla’s journey shows how releasing hidden patterns can transform not only the body, but also the way we live, love, and experience life.

Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I’ll even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind, and then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello and happy, beautiful day to you. Welcome back. On today’s podcast, we have a beautiful volunteer. Her name is Carla, and one of the many things that I love is as we’re going through the session, she notices how she can really uplevel herself in a big way. In fact, we end up getting to Carla 5.0, if you will.
It’s 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 5.0—meaning that, you know, all the time I talk about when we heal ourselves, it really does become a life-changing gift that the next version of us, the best version of us, can show up when we create those changes. And that, you know, ultimately if we have some type of health issue, our body is giving us a really important message.
And you can see that so clearly from today’s episode. You know, just the patterns that can affect you, that can create a lot of hardship in your life. You know, so often—and that’s part of where we’re going—is just that so often these patterns that are creating hardship, we don’t realize it’s a pattern, and so it can keep going and going and going.
And what’s brilliant and beautiful is that ultimately, a lot of times, illness is telling us about that very pattern. It’s pointing out and saying, “Hey, we really want to change this pattern.” And when we change, of course, a pattern in our lives, it becomes life-changing. And just to kind of ground that in psychology for a moment…
You know, if we think about repetition compulsion, or reenactments, or attachment—just how the mind works and how psychology works—a simple example we think about: unfortunately, it’s well known that a woman may have an abusive father and then leave him and find the abusive boyfriend, boss, spouse, etc.
That pattern can continue. Or a person can have a pattern of rejection, or abandonment, or hurt, or criticism, or whatever that is. You know, we can attract those same things.
And so that’s one of the many things that I love about today’s episode is you can just see it so clearly that our bodies are trying to give us a wake-up call. That if there is some type of illness or issue, it’s saying, “Hey, wake up. Hey, change this.”
And of course, when we do—it’s all about heal yourself, change your life—it becomes really a life-changing gift. And so that’s where we’re going. And as we dive in, there’s a few other things I just want to point out. What you’ll notice:
So often, especially when we’re really strong-minded, we try to plow through. And it becomes tricky because real healing then takes place, you know, in the subconscious mind. And so sometimes what can happen, especially if you’re somebody who’s really headstrong and determined, is that because our conscious mind wants something so badly—we’re consciously pushing toward it—we forget that we really have to program it in.
So that’s another thing you’ll see. She’s so resilient, she’s so headstrong, and yet there’s a deeper level of change that’s needed. And so, just so many insights from this episode. And also she’s just so much love—you’re absolutely going to love her.
And on that note, let’s go ahead and dive in with beautiful Carla. Here we go.
Brandy: It’s a pleasure to meet you.
Carla: Thank you very much. I’m happy to be here.
Brandy: Likewise, likewise. And I love that. And, uh, what can I help you with today?
Carla: Well, I have one hand that’s about to have surgery for carpal tunnel, the other one waiting to have surgery for carpal tunnel, and two knees that they say could have surgery as well—all of which are painful.
Brandy: Okay. I don’t recommend pain to anybody.
Carla: I don’t either. It’s not really… it sounds right. It’s definitely not fun.
Brandy: All right. Diving in. I just love your sense of humor, by the way. I love it. Um, all right. What is your level of pain right now in your hands?
Carla: Well, right this minute, actually, considering over the past few weeks it’s been like 15 out of 10, it’s probably—if I move my hand a bit—it’s probably about a 7 out of 10.
Brandy: Yeah, that’s what I would’ve said. That’s what I—yeah. Okay. All right. So, um, so let’s go ahead and start there, shall we?
Carla: Okay.
Brandy: So, give me one second and, um, give me one second. Bingo. Okay. If I ask you to notice—can you find a feeling like you’re trying to get things done and feeling like there’s resistance or people are working against you, if you will?
Carla: Yes.
Brandy: Zero to 10, how much can you find that feeling?
Carla: Um, probably a 7.
Brandy: That’s what I would’ve said—about a 7 or 8, right?
Carla: Yeah.
Brandy: Okay. Yeah. Okay. So I’m going to ask you to breathe, and if I ask you, where are you feeling that feeling? What area?
Carla: Okay…
Brandy: And if I ask you—is that regarding work?
Carla: Yes.
Brandy: Or where? Who is that per—bingo. Okay. Can you give me the initial of that person?
Carla: Um… E.
Brandy: Okay. T. Bingo. There we go. T. Okay. Bingo. Okay. And, uh, bingo. And… okay. So I’m going to ask you to breathe. Bingo.
Brandy: If I ask you, how fast are you with your mind—ideas and different things you want done? How would you describe yourself? Boom, boom, boom, boom, right?
Carla: Boom, boom, boom.
Brandy: And if I ask you, are you good at explaining why you do things or what you’re doing or why you’re doing them—or do you just want everybody else to keep up with you?
Carla: I teach a lot. I teach painting a lot, and, um, I’m told I’m a really good teacher. So sometimes I think I’m ahead—I’m always ahead of where I’m at. There’s always something in the works. There’s always something that I could be doing or, “Oh, we’ll try it this way. We’ll do it that way.”
Brandy: Okay. So let’s go like this—you know that feeling of resistance to getting things done?
Carla: Mhm.
Brandy: What if it were easier?
Carla: Oh, I just need to be pain-free and I would be unstoppable!
Brandy: Okay. So… bingo. Okay, I’m going to ask you to say “T” again.
Carla: T.
Brandy: Bingo. Now what if everything was even more in flow there? What would that look like?
Carla: It would look like pleasure and fun and enjoyment.
Brandy: Okay. And how do you get there?
Carla: I guess by doing the things that I like to do and seeing the end result and kind of going, “Wow, that was great. This is fun.” I like seeing other people achieve the stuff so they can experience the same kind of pleasure that I get from doing my art.
Brandy: Okay. And… bingo. Okay. So let’s do it like this. If I ask you your level of stress around T, what level would you call it?
Carla: Oh, it has gone from 15 to 5 over the years.
Brandy: Yes. Okay. And so if I ask you how you could do it differently emotionally—if your emotional response to that connection was different—what would that look like?
Carla: It would look like me relaxed and enjoying doing what I’m doing and being less stressed.
Brandy: Okay. So if I ask you, 0 to 10, how much do you like to try to control the situation?
Carla: Oh, maybe 12. Or 15.
Brandy: And T loves that too, right?
Carla: Right.
Brandy: And how much would you say T loves for you to control the situation?
Carla: Um, maybe 0.
Brandy: Oh, okay. So there’s a slight difference in scale, I would say. Maybe a little bit, right?
Carla: Yes. Yes.
Brandy: Okay. So what do you think—is T right in having 0 control? Or are you right in having 10 to 20 control? Where is a good balance?
Carla: Well, it’s good to be even, and everybody give and take and enjoy doing what they like to do, and be cooperative.
Brandy: Yes. So what you’re saying is you’re willing to not try to control, but instead to flow.
Carla: That would be better, yes.
Brandy: Ah, so you’re willing to take a different approach to it.
Carla: Absolutely.
Brandy: Now, you haven’t been like a woman who’s in charge and control and had a lot of that controlling type of energy in your life, right?
Carla: Well, maybe some. Yes, a little bit.
Brandy: Okay. So…
Carla: But I’ve had to—because that’s the job that I had in my previous life, and that’s the job I have now. Like, you have to be in control. You have to take charge, or what are you going to do? And T’s not here anymore.
Brandy: Okay. Bingo.
Brandy: All right. So let’s go ahead and pause it just for a quick moment. You know, first and foremost, I just love her. I love her just ability to banter, to stay present, to just be here, and just her level of self-awareness. Just brilliant.
And I love the insights from this—even so far. And two insights that I want to share…
Brandy: First and foremost, this episode is divine timing. As you notice, “T” — her late husband — has passed, and yet there’s still so much anger and hurt and upset and frustration with him. And when you stop and think about it for a moment, it can feel illogical.
But this is why I say it’s divine timing. As you’ll recall on last week’s episode, I worked with a beautiful woman, and on her episode there was a feeling of being upset and feeling unimportant and hurt from her children. And when she stopped and looked at it through a different lens, she realized it wasn’t even true. It wasn’t even happening.
And so that is an extremely powerful insight. One of the things that can be tricky about healing is that it doesn’t have to be a real situation—it can be a perceived situation.
I’ve seen people who have perceived that they’re being rejected or abandoned or mistreated or unloved or disrespected—even though they weren’t—but they felt that way. Or people who feel any type of feeling, even if it’s not really occurring.
So that’s one thing to pay attention to. And that’s why I said this is divine timing—because it’s reinforcing that same point we talked about last week: emotions aren’t always logical.
Brandy: Now, another one I want to just highlight for a moment is the feeling of control. As you know, she said she’s got to control. There’s that controlling energy. But it’s the feeling around it. It’s not that action is wrong—but where it’s coming from.
As you know—and again, divine timing as we talked about on the last IQ episode—the key is action. A lot of times people might program themselves for inactivity, where they’re just waiting for everything in life to just come into fruition. But instead, what happens is the more we program our mindset in a positive way, the more the best of us can show up.
It’s like you take the right action, you want to do it, you feel pulled to do it. You know you need to do something—and you do it and follow through and feel good. The best of you shows up.
So my point is, as far as control—I’m not saying for her to just let go of control. But what I’m saying is to do things in a way that feels more in flow.
A simple way to think about it is this: If I ask you kindly to do something, likely you might collaborate with me. But if I try to control you to do something—most people don’t like to be controlled. Most people don’t like that energy.
So control is one thing. But a collaborative feeling of flow is another. And so I do want her to continue to take action in her life—but from a different place. We’ll unpack more as we go.
Brandy: Now, if I ask you, zero to 10, how much you’re a bit mad at T, what would you say?
Carla: Oh, that could be a 12 or 15.
Brandy: Okay. So I’m going to ask you to breathe. And if I ask you, do you want to keep holding on to that?
Carla: No.
Brandy: Okay. So I’m going to ask you to breathe. And I want you to notice that feeling inside—just really letting it go. Saying to yourself, “I’m not going to carry this anymore. I choose to set myself free.”
And I want you to really feel that—not just words. Really feel it. Like if you had a giant suitcase full of bricks on your back, and you realized you’d been carrying it for years… and now you’re saying, “I don’t need this anymore.”
Carla: I don’t need it anymore.
Brandy: Beautiful. So I’m going to ask you to breathe…
Brandy: Now, I want you to imagine what it would feel like if you had already let go of all of that anger—completely. What would that feel like in your body?
Carla: Light. It would feel light.
Brandy: Yes. Like you’re floating, right?
Carla: Yes.
Brandy: And how would your body feel if it didn’t have to carry that heavy weight anymore?
Carla: Relaxed.
Brandy: Mmm. Yes. So I’m going to ask you to breathe, and I want you to take in the feeling of lightness. Take it in. And just say, “I’m done carrying this old energy. It’s time for something new.”
Carla: I’m done carrying it. It’s time for something new.
Brandy: Beautiful. Breathe that in. And take a moment to feel into what your new energy would feel like—if you were already living from this lighter, freer version of you.
Carla: It would feel joyful.
Brandy: Yes. And I want you to take that in. Really feel that joy. Feel what it would feel like to live from that space—to be Carla 5.0.
Brandy: So I’m going to ask you, what does Carla 5.0 feel like?
Carla: She feels fun. She feels radiant. She laughs a lot. She creates. She inspires. She just is… very much in the moment.
Brandy: Beautiful. And is she holding on to pain from the past?
Carla: No.
Brandy: No. Because she knows that doing that only weighs her down. She’s already let that go.
Carla: Yes, exactly.
Brandy: Okay. So I want you to take that in even more. Just really embody that version of you. See her. Feel her. Let her in. You already know her—she’s already in you.
Carla: Yes.
Brandy: And now I’m going to ask you again—what’s the level of pain in your hands right now?
Carla: (pause) It’s… it’s down. Maybe 3?
Brandy: That’s what I would’ve said. I got 3 as well. Beautiful.
Brandy: So notice this: all we did was shift some of the emotional energy you’ve been holding onto, and the physical pain decreased. And that’s just the beginning.
Carla: That’s amazing.
Brandy: It is. And it’s also you. It’s your mind. It’s your power. And when you really commit to shifting that old emotional energy—letting go of the past—you can completely change your health and your life.
Carla: I believe that now.
Brandy: And I love that. Because healing doesn’t just happen from taking action in the physical world—it also happens when we align our emotional world and our inner energy.
Carla: It makes so much sense now.
Brandy: When we think about healing, we often think it needs to come from outside ourselves. But the truth is, so much of our healing begins when we’re willing to go inward—to really look at the energy we’re holding, the emotions we’re stuck in, and to shift them from within.
Carla: Yes, and I see that now. I’ve been holding on to too much for far too long.
Brandy: Exactly. And you’re not alone in that. So many people do the same without realizing how it’s affecting their body, their health, and even their joy. So I want to celebrate you—because even just being willing to look at it, to feel it, to face it—that’s courageous. That’s powerful.
Carla: Thank you. This really is eye-opening.
Brandy: So now that we’ve reduced that emotional energy, I want to take it even further. I want you to step even more fully into the energy of Carla 5.0. Who is she at her core?
Carla: She is confident. She is peaceful. She trusts herself and she flows with life. She’s no longer trying to control everything—she’s co-creating with life.
Brandy: That’s beautiful. Co-creating with life. And how does that energy feel compared to where you were at the beginning of this session?
Carla: So much lighter. I feel more free. I feel like I can breathe again.
Brandy: That’s the power of emotional release and energetic embodiment. When we carry emotional pain—especially resentment, anger, frustration—it weighs on our body and our mind. But when we let it go, when we really let it go, we create space for joy, love, and healing.
Carla: And it doesn’t mean we forget what happened—it just means we’re choosing not to carry it anymore.
Brandy: Exactly. We honor the lesson, but we don’t hold the pain. That’s true healing. That’s transformation.
Carla: That resonates so deeply.
Brandy: So here’s what I want to invite you to do moving forward: Anytime you feel that old energy start to creep back in—those thoughts, those emotions, that stress—pause. Breathe. Remember who you’re becoming. And remind yourself that you’ve already chosen something new.
Carla: I love that. I can do that.
Brandy: And you already are. You’re doing it now. You’re showing up for yourself in such a powerful way. And it’s beautiful to witness.
Carla: Thank you so much, Brandy. This has changed everything for me.
Brandy: You’re so welcome. And thank you for being so open, so honest, and so ready to heal. You’re a gift—and I can’t wait to see what’s next for you.
Brandy: All right, so as we wrap up today’s episode, I just want to take a moment to reflect on some of the powerful takeaways that came through Carla’s session.
First and foremost, I want to highlight the impact of emotional energy. As you saw, even after years of physical pain and multiple diagnoses, Carla experienced a significant reduction in pain simply by shifting her emotions and letting go of old energy. That’s not a coincidence. That’s the power of the mind-body connection.
Now, you might be asking yourself: could that really work for me? And the answer is: yes. If you’re willing to go inward. If you’re willing to look at the patterns, the resistance, the emotional weight you’ve been carrying—if you’re open to shifting those—then, yes. Profound change is possible.
That doesn’t mean it always happens instantly, and it doesn’t mean it’s always easy. But it is possible. And the more you practice—releasing, reprogramming, stepping into the best version of yourself—the more you start to feel that shift. Not just emotionally, but physically as well.
Carla 5.0 is such a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when we stop holding on to the past and start choosing something new. And so I want to encourage you—wherever you are on your journey—to take a moment and ask yourself:
Because you do have the power to heal. You have the power to create a life that is joyful, free, and aligned. That power lives inside of you. And when you learn to tap into it, to trust it, to use it—you create your own healing, and your own transformation.
As always, I want to thank you for tuning in. Thank you for your openness, your heart, and your commitment to growth. You are incredible. I look forward to seeing you on the next episode.
