Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore. And after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello, and welcome to this week’s quick IQ episode, where we talk about insights and questions. And today we have a really great question from a listener regarding spiritual purpose and also love — and whether there is an ultimate universal purpose that is common among human beings. So, let’s go ahead and unpack this together.
Now, her specific question was this. She says, “Some spiritual people believe the highest purpose of life is to love, and they believe that to love is about others—basically, it’s to give. Do you believe there is an ultimate purpose to life that is universal to all people? And do you agree with this definition of love?”
All right, so let’s go ahead and unpack this. First and foremost, as far as love goes, I would say that it’s not necessarily our entire purpose to give love. Now, I would say, of course, that it is important and it is part of our purpose because we all need love—biochemically, we all need love. An easy way to think about this is: if you think about plants for a moment, plants require energy from the sun and, through photosynthesis, they require that energy to survive.
Now, I would say we as human beings require love in the same way. So yes, we absolutely need to give love, but we also need to receive love. We need to feel love. And so, I would say that is part of our existence—but I wouldn’t say it’s the whole picture or the whole purpose.
Now, if we were to look at a universal purpose—that was part of your question—I would say the easiest way to understand it would be to compare human beings to plants or trees. If you think about a tree, what does it do? It continues to grow, and as it does, it gives off oxygen and takes in carbon dioxide. So, just by existing, it gives off oxygen that fuels our lives and other animals. And it also takes in carbon dioxide, creating a beautiful balance.
Now, what’s beautiful is that human beings are the exact opposite—we take in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. So, in a way, we fuel each other. That’s part of our human existence.
As far as a universal purpose, I would say that when we are in good balance, our job is to continue to grow and transform. Not necessarily physically—we grow physically to a certain point—but spiritually and emotionally, we are meant to continue evolving, manifesting, creating, and flourishing. As we do this, our purpose is to be in good balance with life.
Thinking about a tree again—that’s exactly what it does. It continues to grow and flourish, providing to life and receiving from life. A healthy tree does both—it gives and receives—and that is its natural state of being. So, we as human beings are meant to grow, transform, and contribute to life, while also being open to receive from it. That balance is what allows us to flourish and thrive.
So yes, we are here to give love—but also to receive love. Even through our careers and what we do, if you stop and think about it, each of us contributes to life in our own way. One person may love to work in technology, allowing others to communicate around the world. Another may love construction and architecture, giving us homes to live in. Another may love farming and agriculture, which allows us to eat.
So, it’s like we each have something unique that contributes to the whole. And when we’re out of balance, that imbalance can lead to illness. If someone just gives, gives, gives without ever receiving, that can lead to depletion and exhaustion. And on the other hand, if someone just takes, takes, takes, that can also lead to sickness or unhappiness. The same way a tree can’t just take in carbon dioxide without releasing oxygen, we can’t just take without giving—or give without receiving.
Ultimately, we want to be in good balance in life so we can flourish. That means yes, giving love and feeling love, but also receiving it. And in all that we do—whether it’s work, relationships, or personal growth—our goal is to be in that natural flow: happy to give and equally happy to receive. That’s the beautiful flow of life, and I would say that is a shared purpose among all of us.
Think of a forest full of trees—they give and receive in harmony. Similarly, a community of human beings in balance is also giving and receiving in beautiful flow. On a spiritual level, that’s what life is about: not just giving love, but being open to receive it, too. We all share this universal purpose—to grow, to contribute, to transform, and to remain in loving balance with life.
And when I say “contribute to the world,” that might look different for each of us. It could mean contributing to the next generation through children, through technology, through art, through farming—whatever your unique gifts are. We’re all part of this greater picture of humanity, each playing our part in the beautiful balance of giving and receiving.
So, that’s today’s message—being in balance, thriving, growing, and feeling connected. And from that awareness, we can experience greater love, health, and fulfillment.
If you feel like you’re not receiving love, make sure that you’re also giving love. Sometimes, when people are deeply hurt, they can become a bit shut down. And when we’re shut down, we might unknowingly stop giving love—making it harder to receive it, too.
If you notice that pattern in yourself, I want to gently invite you to begin giving love again—freely and fully. Open your heart to both give and receive. When you do, you’ll notice how your energy begins to flow more naturally, creating space for love to enter your life in new ways.
The next insight is about balance—making sure that you feel in harmony with life. That you’re giving and also receiving, and that it feels good. Because when we fall out of balance, problems can arise. For example, some people end up giving to the point of depletion, while others might take too much without giving back, leading to disconnection or even illness.
If you find yourself in either space, take a moment to reflect and realign. Remember: receiving is wonderful, but if it feels like you’re taking from someone, you’ll want to transform that pattern. Because true receiving happens through appreciation, not through taking—and that difference can deeply impact your health and happiness.
Insight number three is about valuing your contributions. Whatever you do—whether you work in technology, fashion, construction, accounting, or something else entirely—take a moment to recognize the positive impact you’re making in the bigger picture. Every person’s work contributes to the wellbeing of others.
Appreciate yourself. Value what you do. And know that your efforts are an essential part of this interconnected world. This doesn’t mean giving without compensation or boundaries; it means truly appreciating your role and seeing yourself as part of the collective contribution that makes life on this planet thrive.
Before we close, I just want to say how deeply grateful I am—for everyone, for everything people do to make this world function beautifully. Think about it: we have housing, running water, electricity, food in our grocery stores, and technology that connects us. All of that exists because of people—each contributing their unique part.
When we take time to appreciate our world from this perspective, we begin to see each other with more love and gratitude. And that appreciation creates a beautiful feeling inside of us that can actually fuel our health and energy. It’s the energy of connection and community—and it’s powerful.
So, as you move through your day, pause to notice and appreciate what’s around you: the people who make your life possible, and the blessings you already have. Gratitude is one of the most healing energies we can embody.
It’s been such a pleasure connecting with you today. I want to invite you to hit the share button on this episode—share it with someone you love, someone you care about, or even someone you simply appreciate for what they do in the world. The more we help others feel empowered, healthy, and loved, the better this world becomes for all of us.
When each of us is thriving, it creates a ripple of positivity and healing that touches everyone. So, please do make it a wonderful rest of your day—thriving, loving, and living life to its fullest. I look forward to connecting with you on the next episode. We’ll see you there.
