Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore. And after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy—to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello and welcome to this week’s quick IQ episode, where we talk about insights and questions. Today, I want to share with you a question that I get all of the time—from researchers and people studying the power of the mind-body connection.
They’ll often say, “I’ve seen you work with people to get radical results. Under medical equipment, you can literally see someone shift from pain to no pain in real time just by changing their mindset. How is that possible—and why aren’t more people getting results?”
It’s such a powerful question, and today, I want to share with you the top three reasons people don’t get results, even when they’re doing “all the right things.”
When it comes to healing, one of the biggest things people overlook is emotion. In our culture, we often underestimate just how powerful emotions really are. But emotions influence much more than our mood—they affect our energy, body, and biochemistry.
For example, research has shown that our minds can influence biophotons—light particles emitted by our cells. Biophotons help regulate cellular communication and healing processes in the body. Emotions can even trigger the release of positive biochemistry, such as dopamine, which has been shown to speed up wound healing.
So when we understand that emotions are energy in motion, we can see why they’re so vital to our well-being. Yet even when people begin working with their minds, they often try to “check out” emotionally rather than engage consciously with their feelings.
Another major reason people get stuck is that they’re using techniques that seem positive—but are actually keeping them disconnected from life. One example I see often is how some people approach meditation.
Many people create a deep feeling of stillness or emptiness when they meditate. While peace is wonderful, life itself is not still—it’s full of energy, motion, and vitality. If you were to sit in the grass, you’d notice that the soil is alive, the wind is moving, and even the planet is spinning around the sun. Life is movement.
When people focus too much on inner stillness, they can begin to feel disconnected from life. I’ve seen people develop an inner hollowness, a sense of spiritual detachment, or even sadness. They might feel more “enlightened” yet find their relationships empty or distant. Their spouse may say, “I feel like you’re not really here anymore.”
This happens because emotions get stored in the body. When you program in stillness or emptiness repeatedly, you may unknowingly be programming loneliness into your energy. And since loneliness is linked to numerous health issues, this form of disconnection can keep the body from healing.
Now, to be clear, meditation can be wonderful—it just depends on how it’s used. The goal is to connect with life, love, and vitality, not to escape them.
Another big obstacle I see is that people unconsciously reinforce the very problems they’re trying to change. For example, when I’m coaching someone live, you’ll often hear me interrupt them. It’s not because I want to talk over them—it’s because they’re about to repeat the same negative pattern again.
When the mind continually revisits negative stories, feelings, or patterns, it strengthens those neural pathways. So interrupting that repetition is key to creating change.
I experienced this personally during my own healing journey. For years, I was doing “all the things” but staying stuck—until I realized that I had habits of thought that were actually reinforcing my pain. Once I began identifying what to stop doing as well as what to start doing, things changed dramatically.
Many people try to reprogram their mind in a general way—focusing on a trauma or experience—but they miss the specific emotional pattern underneath. This is crucial because two people can go through the same situation and respond emotionally in completely different ways.
One person might feel victimized, another might feel angry and want to fight, while another might feel proud of their hardship. The key to healing is recognizing your own specific habitual emotional response and transforming that pattern—not just the event that triggered it.
For instance, someone might have a pattern of self-criticism. Another might default to guilt or worry. The more specific you get, the more effectively you can rewire your mind to stay out of those emotional states altogether.
We live in a culture that often misunderstands emotions. Messages like “it’s okay to feel up and down, just accept it” sound compassionate—but they can also reinforce cycles of pain. If you simply accept negative emotional swings without reprogramming them, your body remains stuck in that chemistry of stress.
When I see people heal themselves, it’s because they’ve genuinely rewired their minds to stay out of negative emotional patterns altogether. That’s what creates real change—and yes, it’s absolutely possible.
Think about it: some people never experience rage, panic, or despair because those aren’t their patterns. Likewise, you can train your mind not to fall into sadness, guilt, or fear. It’s about rewiring your emotional defaults, not just managing them.
Finally, the most beautiful part of healing is reconnecting with life itself. Ask yourself: am I feeling more emotionally connected to life, to people, to nature, to myself?
Sometimes people think they’re connecting more with life by spending time outdoors or meditating, but emotionally, they’re still programming in stillness or isolation. Remember: emotions don’t always make logical sense. Just as someone might feel relief from self-harm—something that makes no logical sense—someone can feel disconnected even while being in nature.
Life is movement, connection, and flow. You are part of that living rhythm. So take time each day to truly feel alive—to feel love, connection, and gratitude in your heart. That emotional aliveness is healing energy in motion.
So that’s today’s quick IQ episode. I want to invite you to take this awareness and start feeling more connected—to life, to love, and to yourself. Feel the heartbeat of the planet, the movement of the breeze, the warmth of the sun. Let it remind you that you are alive and part of this incredible flow of energy.
As always, please take a quick moment to hit the share button on this episode—share it with someone you love, someone you care about, or even someone you don’t know. Because the more happy, healthy, and empowered people there are in our world, the better it is for all of us.
