Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible — the placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. Then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy — to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello and happy, beautiful day to you! On today’s episode, I want to share with you three things I often see people do that unintentionally sabotage their mental and spiritual progress. These are very common patterns that can sneak up on even the most well-intentioned people — especially those who are growing on their spiritual journey.
So often, people wake up to the awareness that our thoughts help create our lives. They begin doing the work — meditating, learning, shifting energy — but somehow they still feel stuck or overwhelmed. They can’t quite figure out why things aren’t flowing. That’s what we’re going to explore today.
The first mistake I see is creating a subconscious conflict between money and spirituality. This one is surprisingly common — especially among people who are compassionate, heart-centered, and spiritually aware.
For example, I worked with a wonderful man who had built a multimillion-dollar company that was helping the planet — truly a win-win business. But the more spiritual he became, the more he began to sabotage his success. Deep down, he had absorbed the belief that “money is not spiritual.”
Now, think about it logically. Money itself is neutral energy — like clothing. There are spiritual garments worn for prayer or ceremony, and there are clothes that might be provocative or even symbolic of violence. Clothing can be used for light or shadow — and money is the same way.
People can use money destructively — to harm, to exploit, to control. But people can also use it to create healing, beauty, growth, and expansion. Money earned and used with integrity becomes a powerful spiritual tool for good.
Once this gentleman shifted his belief — recognizing that money can be spiritual when it flows from and supports love, generosity, and integrity — his company began to thrive again. It became more successful than ever, and his spiritual values were finally working for him instead of against him.
The second mistake people often make on their spiritual path is using silence or meditation in a way that creates emotional imbalance.
Now, this one can be a bit tricky, because meditation and quiet time are beautiful and powerful practices. But the timing and energy behind them matter.
Let’s say someone spends a long, peaceful time in silence — like being in a spa or on a meditation retreat — and then suddenly returns to the noise and chaos of everyday life. That shift in energy can feel like going from a massage to a dance club — overwhelming, jarring, and even painful.
I’ve seen this happen, especially with parents. A loving mother might start meditating first thing in the morning to create more peace, but then, as her children wake up full of energy and excitement, the noise feels like too much. The contrast between the calm meditation and the lively family energy becomes stressful. Then comes frustration, guilt, and emotional overwhelm.
So what can you do instead?
If this sounds familiar, try meditating or practicing deep silence before bed instead of in the morning. That way, it doesn’t create such a stark contrast with your daily activity.
Or, rather than silencing your mind entirely, begin your day by filling your mind and heart with gratitude and joyful intention — connecting with God, the Universe, or Divine Energy in a way that feels vibrant and uplifting. For example, you might say, “Thank you for this beautiful day. I’m excited for the love, laughter, and opportunities ahead.”
That energy harmonizes with the activity of life — it keeps you open, balanced, and joyful instead of overwhelmed.
The third mistake I often see is increasing emotional sensitivity without learning how to transform it.
When people begin to understand the power of emotions, they naturally become more attuned to what they feel. But if they don’t yet know how to shift those emotions — to release or reprogram them — they can become overly aware of every emotional “weed” in their inner garden without knowing how to clear it. This can quickly lead to feeling overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted.
I’ve seen this happen many times — wonderful, loving people becoming more and more sensitive, to the point that little things begin to feel painful or personal. Someone might get offended if a person says, “I don’t like chihuahuas,” even though it wasn’t about their own dog. Or someone might become deeply hurt over small bits of feedback, even when it’s constructive.
When that kind of sensitivity grows unchecked, it leads to stress, frustration, and sometimes illness — the opposite of what the spiritual journey is meant to bring.
Now, sensitivity itself is not the problem. In fact, sensitivity can be an incredible superpower when you use it wisely. It allows you to feel, to tune in, to empathize, to sense what others are feeling, and to connect deeply. It’s how I’m able to help people release pain in minutes using only the power of their mind.
But there’s a difference between being sensitive and being easily hurt. True spiritual sensitivity empowers you to understand and transform emotions — not to be controlled by them. That’s the kind of sensitivity that heals and uplifts your life.
So, take a moment to reflect: are any of these three patterns affecting you?
If any of these resonate, it’s simply an invitation to make a shift — to reframe your approach and allow your spiritual journey to feel more balanced, joyful, and empowering.
True spirituality isn’t about withdrawal or denial — it’s about being spiritful in all aspects of life: love, abundance, joy, health, and purpose. You are meant to flourish in every area — not to struggle or suffer in the name of spirituality.
So take these insights, apply them, and let them empower you to live a truly spiritual, balanced, and fulfilling life.
