Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life changing injury, it's become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made. that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I'll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind and body. Your emotions and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself and your life.
Let's begin.
Hello, and welcome to this week's quick IQ episode where we talk about insights and questions. And today I have a really great Quick question from a listener that is based on last week's podcast episode that I thought was just divine timing for so many reasons. And so that said, his email reads, Hi Brandy, I really appreciate your work and enjoy your podcasts immensely.
I've never seen anything like it. So thank you for what you do. Also I really appreciated the last episode, but there is one thing that I'm struggling with. I'm wondering, is it really okay to be happy and do fun things when there are so many horrible things going on in the world? And he goes on to list other things, and I'm not going to read the list of horribles, but kind of some of the things that he mentions, as he mentions, uh, Ukraine and also financial stress and different things like that.
And so this is divine timing for many reasons. And that's what I want to take a moment to unpack. So the first part I am going to speak to the Ukraine. Aspect and kind of a way to wrap your mind around this. And the best way to do so would be to actually share an experience that I had recently with a gentleman that I met.
And so kind of to give you the setting of it, you know, I was in a building and I was in the elevator in the parking garage and I was going to go up and as I started to hit the button, there was a. with a bike and a dog and a kid that was, they were walking towards the elevators. And so I asked him, you know, if he wanted me to hold the elevators, if he was going up and he said, yes, please.
You know? And so I held the elevators and they got in. And as we were going up, there was, I mean, the young boy, he was maybe nine or 10 years old. He was so cute. I mean, he had the biggest blue eyes and it was just this precious young little man. And so I said to him, you know, I just said, Oh, is that your dog?
You know, just kind of making conversation where we're going up in the elevator and talking to him. And he looked at me, but he didn't respond at all. And the man said, Oh, he's not from here. He's just visiting right now. He doesn't speak very much English. And I said, Oh, how great. Where is he from? And he said, Oh, he's from Ukraine.
And I said, Oh, and he quickly said, and we're happy and everything is great. And everything is wonderful in the world and we're having a wonderful, wonderful day and we're going to go play. You know, and the way he said it was to signal me to, you know, to not say anything about Ukraine to this young boy, because clearly the young boy didn't know, you know, the way he said it was very clear, like, you know, just everything is great.
We're having fun. They got off the elevator before me. So they got off like at the fourth floor. And when they got off the elevator, they did, they, he was just like, where it's, it's, he was just emanating and really embracing. It's a great day and being playful. And I could just, I mean, they got off the elevator in just a, in a playfulness and laughing and playing.
And they were being exactly that, you know, of course the kid had no idea, but this man was the perfect example. of how to be. You know, when you stop and analyze and look at what was he doing, he was doing what he could, whether it was his nephew or a friend's kid, or, you know, I don't know what it was. I didn't check in or anything like that.
I just let it be exactly what it was. You know, he was doing what he could, And then he was laughing and playing and going through life and enjoying and allowing himself to enjoy. And so it was, it was both. And so even in my own life, you know, when it comes to Ukraine, I did donate money towards kids and, and refugee relief and things like that.
And. I'm also continuing to live my life and be happy and have a great time and live fully. And that's optimally what we need to do is, you know, to do what we can, if we can. And some people might say, well, I don't have money to donate, or I don't have this to do or whatnot. And, you know, send some positive energy, positive thoughts.
Do You know, do what you can in that way. And if that's what you can is sending a prayer or sending thoughts and positive energy. Great. Do that. And then as far as, is it really okay to be happy and do fun things? The answer is yes. In that we need that. We need. to create happiness in the world. We need to embody happiness all around us.
And, you know, no matter what is going on, you know, the reality of it is, is there are almost 8 billion people in this world. If we could only be happy, If everybody else was happy, then it would be impossible. There are always people who are going through some type of hard situation, even in the best of times.
There's always somebody who's going through hardship, unfortunately, and, you know, we can have absolute compassion for them, and, of course, we can hope that everybody takes it. Thanks. Thanks. Whatever problem and is able to, you know, as the saying goes, take lemons and turn it into lemonade, you know, and of course every situation is different, but the point being is ultimately, you know, to the question of, is it okay to be happy and do fun things?
The answer is yes. And, and we need that. We need to create a wonderful world. I mean, imagine if you look around in the world and there's negative things going on in one part of the world. And so. Everybody else is all stuck in negativity. It doesn't give anybody something to look forward to, you know, it's like, you know, even when I was going through my injury, would I have wanted to look around the world and see everybody miserable?
No, that wouldn't have been inspiring to want to get back to life, but you know, and be healthy and happy, you know, no, I like when I was injured. I was looking forward to being healthy and happy and living life fully and enjoying and having fun and being playful and connecting with friends and family and people, you know?
And so, you want to have something to look forward to, even in the worst of times. If you can look and say, Hey, there is happiness. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. There is hope. There is something great in this world. That's a good thing. And so it would say, definitely give yourself permission to do exactly that, to be happy, to live life to its fullest, to do fun things.
And of course, if there's something you can do to help out, do that. And then give yourself permission to enjoy. And by the way, as far as the financial part as well, where he says, you know, there's so much financially going on in the world. Is it okay to be happy and do fun things? And I would say, of course, you know, yes.
And, you know, when I was getting better and really healing from my injury was like 2008, 2009. And if you think about that time here in the US, that was the quote unquote great recession when a lot of people were going through. financial hardship. And what did I do? I mean, I had, of course, compassion for everybody, and I was going through my own major financial hardship as well.
But the way I got out of it, and healed myself, of course, was getting determined. And by the way, something that I did do is if you've ever heard the song from Michael Jackson, Man in the Mirror, you know, the lyrics from it say, you know, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.
And that was something that I did. that I took to heart when I was thinking about the world and where I was and my injury and during that time and knowing that everybody was going through a hard time and there were a lot of things going on in the world. Even then, that was exactly the mindset that I put in, was just that, you know, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.
And, you know, at the time, I wasn't even thinking about necessarily. Helping others because I was definitely not in a place where I could even help others I mean, I was a mess and so helping others wasn't something that I thought that I could even do at the time It wasn't even it wasn't even a speck in my mind But, the world being a better place, and everybody having a better life, and a better world, absolutely was.
I just didn't think that I would be part of the catalyst of that, or helpful, or instrumental in that. It was, of course, a wish for everybody, but it wasn't something that I saw myself as being. You know, is, is being part of, but instead I did take that piece that said, you know, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.
I said, okay, well, let me just take this to heart. And let me just work on me. And that was really something that I embodied. And so that's what I want to share with you today is, you know, going back to his question, is it really okay to be happy and have fun? The answer is yes. Is it really okay to lift yourself?
The answer is yes, yes, and yes. You know, if you've been listening to past episodes, then you know at the end of a lot of episodes, that's exactly what I say. You know? The more empowered and happy and healthy that every person is in our world, the better this world will be for all of us. You know, it just creates that shift.
And so on that note, please do be happy. And also please do make a point to hit the share button on this episode. You know, share it with somebody you love, somebody you care about or somebody you don't even know. The more that everybody is happy and healthy and lifts themselves and does give themselves.
permission to feel good, the better this world will be for all of us. And so taking that in, and by the way, if by chance you did happen to miss last week's episode, I would strongly recommend listening to it. You know, just a beautiful volunteer and so many really powerful insights. In addition to, of course.
giving yourself permission to be happy and to live life to its fullest and have fun. And so on that note, please do have a wonderful, wonderful rest of your day. And I look forward to connecting with you on the next episode. I'll see you there.
