There are 2 important topics you will want to take from this episode:
#1: paying attention to what is “new” and cutting edge on the spiritual journey (and even re-defining it).
#2: A LOT of people “lose” themselves on the healing journey and don't even consciously realize it.
In this episode, we talk about things like:
* Not losing yourself, and instead gaining a new, powerful perspective.
* seeing with more “depth” and an increased level of awareness on the journey that can result in increased enlighttenment.
* redefining what is “New age”
* and more…

If you have found yourself asking any of these questions such as:
Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandi Gillmore. And after recovering from my own life changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello and welcome. It is so wonderful to connect with you. Welcome to this week’s quick IQ episode. Now, today I want to talk to you about getting lost on the healing journey, or rather maybe warn you about getting lost on the healing journey, just because I see it happen so often. I mean, it’s really kind of become a norm for a lot of people and not because people are always stuck per se or that they feel stuck, but sometimes it’s because people get lost.
…or even sucked into like new age marketing, even though they don’t realize it, or there were just, you know, a variety of different reasons. And that’s what I want to talk to you about, because, you know, when I look back at my injury, of course, you’ve probably heard me say that looking back, you know, it was a life changing gift.
I mean, it really changed my life. And I want to be always clear in saying it wasn’t the injury or the accident, because most people who go through what I went through, they don’t get better. So that was not the gift, but the fact that I changed and I grew transformed my life. And when we stop and of course look at what is going on and why the illness or injury or whatnot and change it—that’s when it becomes a life changing gift.
So again, the change is the gift, not the accident or the injury. So I just always want to be very clear with that.
Now, looking at my injury, if I could change one thing, it would be that I did it a lot faster. You know, that it just wouldn’t take so long, which, of course, is part of the reason that I’m always taking people who are in chronic pain or having illness or injury and showing them how to get rapid results.
You know, that’s part of the reason that I do those episodes, is so you can see that it doesn’t have to take years to do it. And you’ve probably heard before, if you’ve been listening to past episodes, where you hear somebody who has been working on healing for 7 years, or 10 years, or 15 years, 50 years or 25 years or, you know, whatnot.
I mean, it’s a lot of people. And unfortunately, as I mentioned, many people are getting sucked in, in a way where they don’t really even realize as much that their life is passing them by. And that can be part of the reason that a person can get stuck on the healing journey itself.
First and foremost, because of the… they’re kind of being a bit checked out. They’re working so hard on the metaphysical and the vision and they’re doing all these things in their head to try to create this new reality, but they’ve completely lost contact and stopped taking action in their current reality.
Ultimately what you want to do is of course get a picture of your new reality and also program your mind, but then live in the present, which then allows you to take action in your current reality—action that transforms your current reality into your new reality.
And so you want both in many cases: the physical and the mindset. And unfortunately there are a lot of people who just get stuck in their head. And I see people lose themselves in that. And what ends up happening is that time just keeps going by and keeps going by.
And then they might even say something like, “Time is just an illusion.” But I see people who wake up from that 10 years later, 15 years later, 50 years later. And even though they feel like they’ve “become spiritual,” they don’t feel like they’ve manifested and lived the life that they really wanted to live, because a lot of it was just happening in their head.
And so, you know, we’ve talked in the past about really feeling that level of connection and presence in the moment. And that is important, and so too is creating real change. It’s not about checking out and living in a false reality. It’s about being grounded and changing who you are and how you feel in a very real way.
Okay, so that’s number one. Make sure to not check out. And I know if you’ve been listening to past episodes, you’ve probably heard me say this one before—making sure to be present and not just be completely checked out, but to create real change and really program your mind.
Which is number two: really understanding the depth in programming your mind as well, and not just seeing what it is that you want to see, but really understanding that there’s a deeper level of transformation that needs to take place.
A simple way to illustrate this would be to think about Benjamin Franklin’s quote that you’ve probably heard before. You know, his quote says: You can do anything that you set your mind to.
Now, a lot of people misunderstand this simple quote. They mistakenly think it means, “All right, I’m just going to put my mind to it and I’m just going to do it.” So they try to get extremely determined and push through to try to achieve it.
But that’s not what this quote really means when you stop and think about it.
If you think about the quote itself—“you can do anything that you set your mind to”—and you really look at the word set. What does that mean?
If you think about setting an alarm, or setting a timer, or setting a clock, or setting your GPS… in all of these instances you’re inputting specific information. You’re programming the direction.
So Benjamin Franklin’s quote is really saying: You can do anything that you program your mind for.
And when you stop and think about Franklin himself—he was well known for programming his mind. He practiced consciously putting certain feelings and ways of being into his mind, which he called his “virtues.” And that was something he practiced all the time.
I use this quote as an example, but it’s not about the quote itself. It’s about consciousness and perspective—your willingness to see more depth, to see the mechanics of the mind, and to truly transform yourself at a deeper level.
It’s about awareness and perspective. When you think about the word set, and you think about it with an open mind, you can clearly see: if you set an alarm or set a clock or set your GPS, you’re inputting information. And yet many people take the quote at face value and think, “I’m just going to decide and push through.”
And unfortunately, a lot of people fail with that approach—whether it’s healing, success, or anything else. Because it’s not all about just getting determined and pushing through.
Now, determination is wonderful. It helped me tremendously in my own healing journey. But there is also a need to program and shift your mind at a deeper level.
Again, this isn’t about Benjamin Franklin’s quote per se—it’s about your awareness and your ability to see things with depth so you can create real transformation.
Because in spirituality, metaphysics, and even conversations about the universe or God, when somebody doesn’t understand something, they are often quick to chalk it up to the esoteric. “It’s the universe. It’s so mystical. No one can understand it.”
And that’s how many people approach healing too. They send random “energy,” or imagine vague concepts, without really understanding what they are doing, without breaking it down, without developing the deeper awareness required to master something.
Instead, in their mind, it doesn’t make logical sense, but they leave it as this mysterious, magical thing and continue doing random actions hoping it will all work out.
And by the way, there are some people who want it to be magic. They’re not trying to truly understand it. I’ve even had someone say to me before, “You break it down and make it so logical. I like believing in magic.”
But here’s the thing: real results are the magic.
The magic is not in keeping it mysterious. It’s in creating genuine transformation.
So while the mystery can feel fun and whimsical, what you truly want—what gives you an extraordinary life—is grounding, clarity, and depth, which then leads to real change.
Honestly, it’s still surprising how many people are using meditation alone to try to heal themselves. And the reason that’s surprising is because, if you step back and look at it objectively, meditation alone does not make sense for deep healing.
For example, Steve Jobs—brilliant man, deeply into meditative and spiritual practices—didn’t heal himself. Meditation was not enough. It takes more.
Or even the current, 14th Dalai Lama. In 2009 he had numerous gallstones removed. And I have so much respect for him, because he didn’t hide it. He spoke openly and said things like, “I am not a healer.”
Meanwhile, today, I see many people with major health issues trying to teach healing, while hiding that they have health issues. And that’s part of why there is so much confusion—because people who are teaching it are hiding their own lack of results.
This is why so many people are still trying to meditate their way to health. They don’t realize that real healing requires deeper change in the subconscious mind.
And that brings us back to perspective and depth—being willing to truly see what is there and not just what your brain wants to see.
Because when you create real change, it means you see things differently, you feel things differently, and you embody that difference.
And that is key for real transformation.
This Benjamin Franklin example is something I use all the time to help people realize they are not seeing the full picture. You may want to take a moment at the end of this episode and let your mind digest this, so you can be open to seeing even more depth in everything—mind, emotions, healing, and beyond.
Which brings us to the third thing I want to talk about: marketing—and how it influences what you see, what you hear, and how you think about spirituality.
This influence is often stronger than people realize.
A simple example: many people believe metaphysics is a “new age” thing. That spirituality is new. That consciousness work is cutting edge.
But metaphysics began with Aristotle—and even earlier with Parmenides, considered the father of metaphysics. We’re talking ancient Greek philosophers from B.C., thousands of years ago.
And in the 1800s and early 1900s, William James famously said: “The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.”
So the idea that our thoughts affect our lives has been around for a very long time.
Yet today people feel like these concepts are brand new and cutting edge. Why? Marketing.
People get excited by anything labeled new or cutting edge. And then ego gets mixed into it—feeling advanced, feeling “ahead of others,” feeling special.
But when spirituality becomes an ego trip, people lose sight of the actual results.
I’ve even seen people get competitive about it: “I can see energy.” “I’ve been seeing energy for years.” “I see more colors.” “I see geometric shapes.”
Meanwhile, their lives aren’t changing.
Their health isn’t changing.
Their relationships aren’t changing.
Their financial situation isn’t changing.
They are spiritually entertained, but not spiritually transformed.
And that’s how people get stuck for years—sometimes decades—on the healing journey.
People jump from one concept to another, one teacher to another, one workshop to another, just chasing the next new shiny thing.
But the information is often the same information—just said differently.
One person says, “Stress affects the physical body.” Another says, “Energy affects the physical body.” And since emotions are literally e-motions (energy in motion), they’re saying the exact same thing.
It’s just different language.
But people chase novelty instead of results.
And marketing pushes that—labeling everything “new” and “advanced” so people will buy into it.
But novelty does not equal transformation.
Real transformation happens when you create a deep shift inside yourself.
Not when you learn a new vocabulary word for the same idea.
And by the way, let me give you an example that I have experienced multiple times in my own life, especially when I was first starting out in my career. I wanted to make a bigger difference, help more and more people, so I started reaching out for different ideas on how to do so. I made a video set and put in all of the things that I did to heal myself and the things that I did to help others.
And then I would tell people that healing has been around for thousands of years, and that what is most important is simply to focus on results.
Over and over, marketing people would tell me that if I said healing had been around for thousands of years, then nobody would want to join my course — because people only want what is “new.” They told me I had to say it was new so people would feel it was cutting edge.
Of course, I was not going to tell people that the idea of healing was new when it clearly wasn’t. And yes, there are many things in my course that are new — tools, techniques, discoveries, explanations — but the concept of mind-body healing is ancient.
The implication they were pushing was: call it something new, because people want the “next shiny object.”
But here’s the problem: when people chase shiny objects, they don’t get real results.
Instead, they go in circles — jumping from subconscious mind work to energy work to manifestation work to shadow work — but never creating the deeper internal change that actually heals the body and transforms their life.
And that’s exactly what is happening for so many people right now. People are waking up to the awareness that our minds are powerful, but they’re jumping from one awareness to another without grounding it into real transformation.
People study the subconscious mind…
Then energy…
Then quantum physics…
Then new healing modalities…
But they aren’t changing themselves at a deeper level.
They aren’t practicing the transformation consistently.
They aren’t working through the emotional and energetic patterns that are actually creating their health issues.
So they stay stuck, even as they convince themselves they are “growing spiritually.”
And if you’re deeply involved in spiritual communities, you’ve probably seen this — the competitive spirituality where people try to one-up each other:
It becomes ego-driven, not results-driven.
And yes — energy is beautiful, and expansion is wonderful. But the point is: many people get wrapped up in those things and lose sight of actually creating real change in their life.
When you stop and think about it, is it really new?
No. It’s been around for thousands of years.
But “new age” is great marketing. And marketing shapes trends, which shapes what people think they should believe, which shapes how people chase spirituality.
And because of that influence, many people don’t realize they’ve become distracted — or even lost — on their healing or spiritual journey.
They disconnect from reality.
They detach from taking meaningful action in their actual lives.
They get caught up in feeling “advanced” or “super human.”
But meanwhile nothing fundamental is changing.
They feel cutting edge, but continue living the same patterns.
Some people do realize something is off in their life — something isn’t working — but instead of fixing it, they try to work around it.
Maybe they don’t want to fix it.
Maybe they don’t know how.
But that one stuck pattern holds their whole life in place.
Meanwhile, they’re trying to be spiritual everywhere else.
But that one unresolved thing keeps blocking them.
And they don’t see it because everything else is wrapped in spiritual language, spiritual practices, spiritual identity…
So they drift further and further into a false sense of reality.
They feel “spiritually awakened,” but their life isn’t changing.
And this is where that Benjamin Franklin example becomes huge. A small shift in perspective — a deeper awareness — can be the difference between:
Depth matters.
Awareness matters.
Grounded understanding matters.
So my biggest suggestion is this:
If you notice that you’re stuck on the journey — caught up in the next shiny object, not making real internal changes, feeling checked out or disconnected from real life, watching time pass without results — then you’ll want to change that.
Become present.
Refocus on real transformation.
And be honest about what’s actually working and what isn’t.
Speaking of setting your mind and getting specific mind programming in, that can be very tricky. That said, I strongly recommend not missing the next episode.
If you listened to last week’s volunteer episode, I was working with a woman named Nikki. In that episode, we talked about beauty and how the mind affects the physical appearance. This week, in the second half of her session, we’re taking it even deeper.
You’ll see that she has some complex mind blocks that have been keeping her from stepping into her vision — and we break that down so you can really understand mind programming at a deeper level.
It is extremely powerful and insightful. You don’t want to miss it.
It has been such a pleasure connecting with you. I love that you are someone who is committed to expanding your consciousness, your energy, and your mind.
From today’s episode, my biggest suggestion is this: take an honest look at your life and make sure you are not getting caught up in distractions. Make sure you are focusing on getting real results.
You truly deserve a healthy, happy, loving, fulfilling life.
That said, I wish you a most wonderful, spiritful rest of your day.
Thank you for listening to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. All of the time, people reach out and say how much these episodes have given them hope, or touched their heart, or helped them stay positive in hard times, or even woken them up to a new level of awareness of how amazing we all really are.
If today’s episode touched your heart or expanded your mind in any way, please do me a favor and be sure to share it with those you care about, or those you know who really need it. As more and more people become empowered, it really will change our world for the better.
That is the point — and the power — of these demonstrations: to create a radical shift in our world consciousness by showing everyone what we are all capable of.
And of course, each volunteer will need to follow through to reinforce their programming to maintain their results. But the point is for you to see that you really can create rapid results in your health and your life, if you truly understand how to use your mind. You are incredible.
I do want to be clear though, that most people will not get results this fast on their own. I make it look very easy because of the discoveries that I made. You’ll want to remember that there’s so much more going on in our minds at a deeper level than people realize.
That said, if you want to send me any questions or comments, come visit me on my website at brandygillmore.com. And if you’re currently experiencing physical pain and would like to be a volunteer on the show, you can sign up there as well.
Lastly, please remember, if you do have any health issues, you won’t want to avoid your doctors. Instead, continue seeing them — and make it your goal to blow their minds with what you’re capable of with your mind.
Thank you.
