Have you ever changed your diet, started feeling better, and thought, Finally—I found what works… only to have the results change later?
There may be more happening than we realize.
What if the foods you eat—and the way you relate to them—could shift your emotions from day to day in ways that affect your stress, guilt, happiness, and even how you feel physically?
When most people think about emotional eating, they think about eating when stressed, sad, or overwhelmed.
But our emotional relationship with food can go much deeper than that—and can sometimes be surprisingly connected to feelings of safety, control, guilt, identity, worthiness, or belonging.
In this episode, Brandy works with a beautiful volunteer who had been struggling with ongoing stomach and digestive issues for years. What emerged was fascinating: she had grown up in a very strict, sheltered environment—and later found herself gravitating toward a very strict, structured way of eating.
As they looked deeper, that structure around food appeared to provide something emotionally familiar: a feeling of safety and control when life itself felt uncertain.
And that raises an important question:
When a diet seems to “work,” is it always only the food that changed—or could something else have shifted at the same time?
Brandy shares several surprising examples that may completely change the way you think about food, emotions, healing, and the subconscious mind.
If you’ve ever felt like you were chasing the “perfect diet,” this episode may help you look at the puzzle from an entirely different angle.

Welcome to Heal Yourself. Change Your Life. I’m Brandy Gillmore, and what I’m most known for is helping people to create radical transformations and even demonstrating the power of the mind and self-healing under medical equipment so you can see the results. And my work has even been published in a medical journal because it’s truly incredible what we are all capable of when we understand our own minds at a deeper level.
So whether you’re new to this work or you’ve been studying the power of the mind for many years, I love that you’re here. I love that we’re on this incredible journey together, and I look forward to sharing breakthrough information with you. That said, on this podcast, I’ll share two types of episodes.
First, self-healing episodes where I share key insights from working with live volunteers, and the second type are where I answer questions from the audience. That said, if you’d like to volunteer or submit a question, come visit me at BrandyGillmore.com. On that note, let’s dive in.
Hello and happy beautiful day to you. I want to add in a quick but important note to make this podcast very easy to navigate because today’s episode has a special format. Today, I worked with a live volunteer, and as you probably know, there are a lot of people who are now using AI to modify information online.
For that reason, we have taken an extra step to help protect our beautiful volunteer and the integrity of this work to help keep the information from being modified. And we actually love how this turned out because it provides you with even more information. This is how it works. On today’s episode, you’ll hear an overview of the person that I worked with, and I will provide you with simple but powerful breakthrough insights that helped our volunteer begin making a radical shift.
Then, at the end of this short breakthrough episode, if you are ready for a deep dive, you can click in the show notes to gain access to the actual self-healing session where I worked directly with the live volunteer. This enables us to help protect the information online from being modified while still continuing to provide you with powerful information to help bridge the gap between science and spirituality and personal empowerment, because it’s truly incredible what you are capable of when you learn to understand your mind at a deeper level.
That said, let’s dive into the simple but powerful insights that came from working with today’s volunteer. Here we go.
So let’s be honest when it comes to healing and food and what’s really going on at a deeper level, because so often people have been eating the perfect diet and trying to heal, and yet it’s not working. The body’s really not healing itself. In fact, I did that very thing in my own life where I was trying one diet after another after another, and it wasn’t working.
But what I have seen time and time again throughout the years is that diet is so tricky, and it’s so different than what people think. And so today I want to share with you several different examples so you can really see this from a whole different way on a way to think about it, because you can play with your diet and use your diet to actually make real changes.
But again, it’s different than you might think. So starting with a very simple awareness. We’ve all heard the phrase before, emotional eating, that if somebody is stressed out, they might eat a bunch of food or whatnot. But emotional eating is so different and bigger than many people realize. So of course we know, you know, if somebody’s stressed they can eat a bunch of food, or depressed or, or whatnot.
But think about this. We also know that people can feel guilty for eat- eating certain foods like, you know, they might snack on some, a cake or something they’ve told themselves they’re not going to do, and then they do it anyway, and then they feel feelings of guilt. So that’s another example, if you will, of how food can affect our emotions.
But let’s take it even further beyond that because it is… there’s so many layers to it, and the more you understand it, the more you can use this for your benefit in your own life, and also notice if it’s actually negatively impacting you, because so often that can happen too. Now, by the way, part of the reason this topic comes up is because I worked with a beautiful volunteer today.
Her name is Kera, and sh- she’s such an absolute sweetheart, and she’s been experiencing ongoing stomach digestion issues for many, many, many years and has been through one treatment after another and one doctor and diet and all of the things. And it’s gotten it better, but not improved all of the way.
And so she’s trying to figure out what that is. Now what was tricky was this, is as soon as I connected with her, I could find the feeling that she had grown up with a very strict household. And so to her, having that strict… She had a lot of, like, protection, if you will. Like she was very sheltered. So what ultimately happened, it was, it was very strict and regimented, regimented and, and sheltered.
And so when she was just eating and going through life and feeling like life wasn’t certain and, and uncertainty and fear towards life of the unknown- that if she had a very structured, strict diet, she actually felt better. Why? That is the emotional pattern that she’s craving, but it didn’t fix things all of the way.
Meaning, like when you stop and think about it, it is so tricky because I have seen people who have had patterns before that affect their health in a very negative way that are surprisingly connected to food. For example, people have had a lot of… gotten in trouble a lot for food growing up, or maybe they felt guilty for having snacks.
And then I’ve worked with them before where they have really horrible health, you know, bad things, not great things going on in, in their health. And ultimately, at a deeper level in the subconscious mind, they feel like because they’re not eating a perfect diet, they felt guilt about it. They felt like they didn’t deserve to be healthy because they weren’t eating perfect.
So there’s that. And by the way, the, the number of ways that our relationship with food can affect us is, is huge, and it’s something that is so commonly misunderstood and commonly overlooked. Now, I can give you another example, and I’m gonna give you a few more examples because again, it’s tricky and it’s overlooked.
So another example is this, is I’ve seen people before who were, let’s say they had guilt in their life. They felt bad or not like a good person, or maybe they felt left out. And then maybe they started eating vegan or vegetarian or something like that, and suddenly they felt like a good person. So they felt like, “Oh, I am a good person because I’m eating vegan or vegetarian.”
And there’s a huge emotional shift. Now it gets a bit tricky, and it’s this. So they’ve had this huge emotional shift And so now they feel like a good person. They feel like they are a good person and… or whatever it is, or maybe they felt left out and they then s- changed to vegetarian or vegan, and then they found other people to connect with.
And so suddenly they now have a group of friends to connect with over vegetarian or vegan, so now suddenly there’s a social connection instead of loneliness. Huge emotional shift. But what’s tricky is this, is let’s say somebody’s eating healthy and they’re feeling suddenly like a good person. Then after a while, let’s say three months, a year, de- however long, after a while it loses its effect.
So now they just feel like, “Oh, I’m used to being vegan or vegetarian,” or whatever it is, and it suddenly wears off. So then what happens is their experience can be this, where they felt like they changed to a diet and at first it was working. It was like, oh my gosh, they changed to a diet, it was working great, and then after a while the health issues came back.
So in their mind they think, “The diet that I was using is not working. Let me tweak my diet. Let me figure it out. Let me…” And they’re driving themselves crazy trying to figure out what it was in their diet that has changed or what they need to do, and they’re chasing it like crazy. I can’t tell you how often I’ve seen this.
All of the time, because somebody will change their diet and they feel better, and then after a while, because it just becomes the norm, it no longer has the same emotional impact, or maybe the emotion goes to something else or starts showing up in a different way. So the problems come back and then they spend years chasing their, theirselves trying to figure it out, racking their brains To try to figure out what it was in their diet that changed and they didn’t realize it was the emotional shift.
I see that all the time. And if, for example, let’s say even somebody, they were, had, were eating guilty, let’s say they were eating chips and they were feeling bad or guilty or shameful, and then they changed, and now their diet is go- they’re, they stopped, so now those emotions stopped, and now they’re feeling like a good person.
Not because… And, and so their health issues changed, not because of their diet, but because of their emotional shift. But then let’s say they start feeling guilty about spending, or they start s- feeling guilty or shameful about, uh, the kids or work or whatever it is, and the emotional pattern shows up now somewhere else, and then the health issues come back and it’s driving them crazy.
So my point is, is that it’s tricky and you’ll want to really look at your relationship with food. Now, by the way, there was, uh, an event that I spoke at, uh, a few years back where I was speaking, uh, on a panel with other people. A lot of… There were doctors and, and other people who were speaking about health, and so people were…
You know, we were being presented with different questions. Now, one thing that came up in this panel, because it was kind of like some people were very much about diet and, or allopathic medicine or natural medicine, and of course I work with mindset and emotions and, and, and so ultimately there was a doctor next to me who stood up and, and was talking about specifically this study, and it’s, it’s a bit tricky.
So there was this study of women who basically they had taken their blood and they grew it in a Petri dish, and they noticed that there were cancer cells in this Petri dish. And so what happened is they then had this study of women work on diet and exercise alone for I think it was like 30 days or something like that, and every day they did…
They had diet and they had their diet and their exercise and all of this stuff for 30 days, and then they rechecked their sample in the Petri dish, and there were no cancer cells. So she shared this. So she said, so and sh- this, this doctor said, as she was sharing about the importance of diet and exercise, this doctor said this.
She said, and she’s a lovely, lovely human being, but she said, she goes, “Look, there was this whole study where these women changed only their diet and only exercise for 30 days, and the cancer cells went away completely.” Now, then, so the, the moderator for the, the panelist, the interview asked me and said, “Well, Brandy, what do you think of that?”
And I said this. I said, “To me, when you tell me about that study, I see a whole group of women that is now allowed to eat healthy and diet, guilt f- or, and exercise guilt-free. They’re all able to go eat healthy and exercise and take time for themselves with no guilt.” And everybody in the audience, of course, was like, “Oh my God.
Like that?” ‘Cause it was, it was a, an audience of a lot of women. They go, “Oh my gosh, like that? Being able to do something for ourselves and do, uh, and eat healthy and take time for ourselves and, and exercise every day without feeling bad or guilty? That would be huge.” Right? So then as soon as, as soon as I said that, the whole audience was like, “Oh my gosh, could…
Some… What a huge shift.” My point is that would be a huge emotional shift. And so my, my point is ultimately that time and time again, I see people who change their diet and then ultimately don’t realize that there is some type of emotional pattern that is consistent with it that is actually underlying, and so it keeps them chasing their tail in so many different directions.
And when they start to really understand the emotional patterns, it becomes liberating and free, and that’s the very thing happen- that’s the very thing that happened with the beautiful volunteer that I worked with today, is as I started working with her, she had this very strict diet, but that was her feeling, was also feeling like she grew up in a, in a strict kind of very sheltered environment.
And so life felt fearful towards her, a-about her. Like, the, the uncertainty, the fear. So, so she had seven, eight, nine, ten of uncertainty and, and fear and feeling afraid of life. And so, but if she could control her food, she felt more in control, the emotional relationship with food. And so ultimately, as I was working with her, I said, “Well, what happens if you felt safe towards life?”
And she was like, “Oh my gosh, that would feel freeing, liberating.” And I said, “Yes.” Like, so it’s not just about, we don’t need to have strict structure. We need to really change the emotional patterns and the emotional change about life itself. And what was beautiful is as I was talking to her about this, it just felt expansive.
And so one of the analogies that I actually gave her was this, is I… And I even did this with myself when I was going through my own injury, was I said, you know, what, kind of what I told myself is I said, it’s like that feeling if you’re, if you’ve ever done this before on a, on a rollercoaster at an amusement park.
If you’re on a rollercoaster and you’re holding on for dear life, white-knuckled, so to speak, you know, gripping tight and just waiting for it to end That that’s not the feeling that you want towards life. That you don’t want to feel this feeling of fear towards life, and fear towards life, and holding on white-knuckled hoping to safely get to the end, right?
So you don’t want that feeling in your life of that. And so instead, it’s the feeling of feeling safe in life. What happens if you feel safe in life? What does that look like? What does that feel like? And of course, programming that in at a deeper, deeper, deeper level. And so that creating that real change is healing, is transformative, and is always, it- it’s the gift.
And so you hear me say all of the time, when we really listen to what our bodies are telling us, these emotional patterns, you know, uh, basically that if we have some type of health issue, that ultimately it’s like a spiritual check engine light. It’s like our bodies are giving us a check engine light that says something is off, and that we need to fix it.
And ultimately, when we start understanding what’s really going on at a deeper level and we change it, it becomes a life-changing gift. Now, to be clear, the problem isn’t a gift. Like, you know, going through my own injury, the injury wasn’t a gift. You know, most people don’t heal what I healed from. The injury wasn’t the gift.
The fact that I changed changes the gift. And you know, to be honest with you, if I had gone through six and a half years of my life being injured, and at the end, it was just like, “Oh, I learned n- new nutrition.” Eh, okay, that would’ve been nice. But the fact that I went through all of those years and what I really understood and changed was my subconscious mind and my mind programming, and I understood the power of the mind and how to change my life, my happiness, my health, everything changed.
And so again, it- it’s just there’s a gift in it when we really understand mindset and, and we make real, real changes, it becomes a life-changing gift. And so if we even take this example with our beautiful volunteer, and we think about her shifting her mindset to feel a, from feeling afraid of life and needing to be in control, and feeling so uncertain, and that sheltered feeling, to instead feeling full of life, feeling safe, feeling like she can flourish.
It’s life-changing. It’s pivotal. And so these underlying emotional patterns that we have really do change our health, our life, our happiness. And so it’s a check engine light, and it’s beautiful watching her really create that shift and that awareness. Her awareness was just, uh, uh, brilliant and beautiful, and so I love that.
And by the way, if you’d like to listen to the actual session where I worked with her, there is a link in the show notes so you can listen to that session. That is available. Or if you are somebody who’s wanting to understand mind body healing at a deeper level, there’s also a link for, in the show notes for a free training where you can see how I’ve been able to get results with the mind body healing even under medical equipment.
So you can see the power of the mind and how incredible we all really, really are. And so that, of course, is, is my hope for everybody, to learn how to use your own mind . You know? It’s just absolutely incredible what we are capable of. And so on that note, I want to ask you please do take just a quick moment to hit the share button on this episode.
You know, share it with somebody you love, somebody you care about, or somebody you don’t even know because the more that every single person in this world feel healthy and happy and loved and loving, truly the better this world is for all of us.
