Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore, and after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible — the placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. Then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy — to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello and welcome to today’s Quick IQ episode, where we talk about Insights and Questions. Today, I want to take a bunch of insights and mix them with a bunch of questions. I received several questions that came in, and I also want to share an insight based on last week’s episode and bring it all together.
That’s what we’re going to do on today’s episode. The thing I want to start with is the simplicity of change — the simplicity of healing yourself — and also some of the complexities. I’ll be weaving everything together, if you will.
The Simplicity of Healing
Starting with simplicity — the way that you want to think about mind-body healing is that it’s like learning any other skill. Think about a child learning to walk. What do they do? They stand, they fall, they stand again, they fall again. They make distinctions. And as they continue, they get better and better at it. They learn from it and move forward.
Or even when we learn to read or write — we start by sounding out words like “cat” and “dog.” We might write our name backward or upside down at first. But over time, we learn the distinctions that make it easy and natural.
That’s the simplicity — that’s how we learn anything. When you start a new job, for example, you start, make mistakes, get feedback, and improve. So while it’s simple, it can also become complex for this reason:
Oftentimes, people are told, “Just believe.” Or “All you have to do is meditate, think positive, and believe — and eventually, it’ll happen.”
I got stuck in that mindset early in my journey. I thought, “I must be doing everything right — I’m meditating for hours, thinking positive, saying affirmations — so my body should be healing.” But I wasn’t. I thought the body just took a long time to catch up.
That’s the tricky part — when we think we’re doing everything right, and we’re just waiting. We think the body takes years to heal, but that can become a trap. Healing is a skill — it’s about making distinctions, refining, and improving.
On my own journey, one of the most profound distinctions I made came from studying people with multiple personality disorder (now called dissociative identity disorder). Research shows that these individuals can switch from one illness to another — instantly. One personality might have diabetes or allergies; another might not. The illness literally changes as they shift personalities.
When I discovered that, it blew my mind. It showed me how powerful the mind truly is — that real physical changes can occur within minutes. That was a turning point for me.
So that’s the simplicity: keep making distinctions. Keep refining your understanding of your emotions, clarity, and mindset. That’s how you learn to master this process.
The Power of Follow-Through
Now, let’s move to another key insight — follow-through. Just as we retrain our nervous system to do anything new, follow-through is essential.
When you think about learning to catch a ball or speak a new language, it takes follow-through. It’s the same with healing. You can’t just do it once and expect a lifelong shift — it takes repetition and consistency to reprogram your nervous system.
In last week’s episode, we worked with our beautiful volunteer, Shelly. She had an emotional pattern of fear and bracing herself — always expecting something bad to happen, even though she considered herself an optimist. Beneath the optimism was this undercurrent of fear.
So retraining her nervous system meant creating a new automatic emotional response — one not rooted in fear. Think of it like sports: when Michael Jordan practices shooting free throws, he’s reprogramming his nervous system to respond a certain way automatically.
We wouldn’t expect him to master that in 10 seconds. It took repetition — getting the movement “in the body.” It’s the same with reprogramming emotions. Once we find the real root of what needs to change, it’s all about follow-through and consistency. That’s what cements the shift.
I always emphasize follow-through because on the podcast, I make things look ridiculously easy. You’ll hear me help someone release pain within minutes using only their mind. But afterward, I always remind them: you must follow through. You need to solidify the new neural and emotional pattern so it becomes your new normal.
The Complexity Beneath Simplicity
Now, let’s look at the other side — the complexity of healing. Going back to Michael Jordan: when you watch him play, it looks effortless, right? You might think, “That looks easy; I can do that.” But when you try it yourself, you quickly realize there’s skill, precision, and deep conditioning behind it.
The same applies to mind-body healing. When you watch me coach someone and see results quickly, it may look simple. But that’s because I’ve refined and mastered the process. There’s real depth and skill behind it — the understanding of how emotions and consciousness interact with the body.
This is why I always emphasize both sides — the simplicity of the process and the complexity that makes it truly effective. If I just said, “Oh, it’s easy,” it wouldn’t be in integrity. Yes, it can become easy, but it also requires awareness, emotional change, and repetition.
The Illusion of “I’ve Got This”
Here’s one of the biggest complexities — and it’s sneaky. The conscious mind often thinks, “I’ve got this.” You understand the idea intellectually, so you think you’ve mastered it. But that’s not how the subconscious works.
It’s like when you wake up from a vivid dream and think you’ll remember it forever. But hours later, it’s gone. That’s how the mind works — if we don’t reinforce new patterns, they fade quickly.
That’s why follow-through is so critical. Without reinforcement, new emotional patterns disappear, even though your conscious mind thinks they’re “locked in.”
We walk around thinking our conscious mind is running the show, but it’s actually the subconscious mind driving most of our behavior. And that’s where healing happens — deep beneath the surface.
So while this work seems simple, the depth of the subconscious makes it both simple and complex at the same time. Once you understand that — and how to engage the subconscious correctly — healing can actually become easy and natural.
Understanding Consciousness and Emotional Reprogramming
When you think about it, emotions control our consciousness. They shape how we see and interpret the world around us. So, when we shift our emotions, we don’t just change how we feel — we also change our entire perception of reality.
This means that healing and reprogramming are not just about “feeling better.” They’re about changing the lens through which we experience life. That’s a deep level of transformation.
Let me give you an example. If someone is deeply in love, what do they see? They see all the good in a person — they focus on the beauty, the joy, the connection. But if that same person becomes angry, suddenly, all they can see are the flaws. Their emotional state literally changes what they perceive as truth.
This is what I call emotion-controlled consciousness or emotion-controlled perception. It’s one of the biggest breakthroughs in my work. When someone is in fear, they see all the fearful things. When they’re in victim mode, they perceive themselves as a victim in multiple situations — even when they’re not. When they feel criticized, they may perceive judgment even when someone is offering support.
That’s the power of emotion-controlled consciousness. Our emotions don’t just color our world — they define the world we see. That’s why it’s not enough to “think positive.” We must feel differently. We must reprogram our emotional responses so that our perception — our consciousness — changes too.
Changing How We See Through Emotional Shifts
Think about this for a moment. Maybe you’ve had a relationship in your past — perhaps in high school or years ago — where you truly believed that person was “the one.” When the relationship ended, you were devastated. It felt like the end of the world. But years later, you look back and think, “Wow, I’m so glad that didn’t work out.”
Your perception completely changed. At the time, you couldn’t imagine life without that person. But now, with new experiences and emotional growth, you see things clearly. That’s what happens when we shift our emotional state — our entire consciousness changes with it.
Healing works the same way. When we change our emotions — when we release fear, pain, guilt, or victimhood — we not only change our internal energy, we change how we see and interact with the world around us. We begin to respond differently, attract different experiences, and perceive possibilities that weren’t visible before.
That’s the depth of this work. It’s not just about shifting an emotion temporarily; it’s about rewiring it at the nervous system level so it becomes automatic. You begin to feel and act from an entirely new state of being — one that’s aligned with health, strength, and joy.
The True Depth of Healing: Reprogramming at the Core
When you change your emotions repeatedly — when you practice feeling love, joy, peace, and safety — you’re not just “thinking positively.” You’re retraining your subconscious mind and reprogramming your nervous system. You’re also reshaping your consciousness itself.
This is why follow-through is essential. It’s like exercising new neural pathways — the more you use them, the stronger they become. Each repetition reinforces the new emotional pattern until it becomes your natural way of being.
So when we talk about mastering your mind and energy, this is what it truly means — reprogramming yourself at a deeper level so your body and emotions align with healing, automatically.
Seeing Healing as a Skill
Remember what I said earlier — healing is a skill. Just like learning to walk, drive a car, or speak a new language, it takes practice and refinement. Every time you make a distinction — every time you recognize an emotional trigger and shift it — you’re strengthening your healing ability.
And the beauty of that is, the more you practice, the more it becomes second nature. You’ll notice your reactions changing, your energy uplifting, and your body beginning to align with those changes. It’s a learning process — one that empowers you to take control of your health and your life.
Mastering Your Mind to Master Your Life
When you stop and think about it, what could possibly be more important than mastering your own mind? Our thoughts and emotions create the foundation of our lives. Whether you look at it through the lens of psychology, neuroscience, or spirituality, it’s all the same truth: patterns repeat until we change them.
We see this everywhere — in relationships, work, health, and even self-esteem. For example, someone who grew up with an abusive father might leave him only to find an abusive boyfriend, boss, or spouse later on. The pattern repeats, not because the person wants it to, but because it’s wired into their subconscious. It’s familiar — it feels normal, even though it’s painful.
And yet, in some cases, people break that pattern entirely. Why? Because they changed the way it’s wired in their mind. They created a new subconscious blueprint.
That’s what this work is all about — breaking free from old programming and creating new, healthy emotional and energetic patterns that empower you. When you do that, everything changes — your health, your relationships, your happiness, your entire life.
From Victim to Victory
I love to call this process moving from victim to victory. It’s about transforming old wounds and limitations into empowerment and healing. Because when you master your emotions and your energy, you’re no longer reacting to life — you’re consciously creating it.
That’s the ultimate transformation. And it’s absolutely possible for you.
Creating Change in Yourself and the World
My hope is that in today’s episode, you’ve made some distinctions that will help you see this process more clearly — the balance of simplicity and complexity, awareness and follow-through. Because those distinctions are the key to any kind of mastery, whether it’s healing, learning, or creating lasting change.
When you master your mind, you open the door to healing your body and transforming your life. And when you do, you not only change your own world — you help uplift everyone around you.
That’s why I always ask: please share this message. Share it with someone you love, someone who’s struggling, or even someone you don’t know. Because the more people who learn to use their minds to heal and uplift themselves, the better this world becomes for all of us.
So please, take a moment to hit the share button — and know that your act of sharing can help someone else find hope, healing, and empowerment.
And as always, I want to wish you the most wonderful, beautiful day. I look forward to connecting with you on the next episode. I’ll see you there.
