Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandy Gillmore. After recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible—the placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I’ll take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I’ll even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. Then, I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy—to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Creating New Patterns Without Realizing It
Hello, and welcome to this week’s Quick IQ episode, where we talk about insights and questions. Today, I have a short but powerful insight that builds directly on last week’s topic.
If you recall, last week’s question was: Can we just ask the universe to remove our negative programming and patterns?
We talked about how childhood patterns can become wired in the brain in ways that seem to “serve” us. For instance, if a child receives love or connection when they feel sympathy, the brain learns that sympathy equals love. As adults, that same person might subconsciously hold onto sadness because it still feels like a way to receive love—creating a conflict within the mind.
It’s like one hand pushing the pattern away while the other hand holds on tightly. That inner conflict is why change can feel hard, even when we consciously want it.
How Spiritual Growth Can Accidentally Reinforce Negativity
Now, here’s where today’s insight comes in. I often see people, once they begin working with their minds or exploring spirituality, unknowingly create new negative patterns. You might notice this in spiritual communities—where despite good intentions, people sometimes experience more sickness, hardship, or struggle.
This happens when spiritual ideas get linked in the brain in a way that actually reinforces pain instead of healing. Let’s explore how that happens—and what to do instead.
The “Universe Cleared the Path” Trap
Imagine someone who’s diving into spirituality, learning about consciousness and energy. With their newfound awareness, they might start feeling a little righteous—perhaps unconsciously superior to others who are “less evolved.”
That subtle energy often creates friction in relationships. Maybe friendships fade, or a breakup happens, or a business partnership falls apart. Then, to soothe the pain, the person tells themselves, “The universe was just clearing space for me. That person wasn’t aligned with my vibration.”
On the surface, that sounds empowering—but here’s the danger: the mind starts linking rejection with spiritual validation. In other words, feeling rejected begins to equal feeling chosen by the universe. Over time, this can actually cause the subconscious to attract more rejection—because it’s now tied to feeling special or cared for by the divine.
Understanding How the Brain Links Experiences
Our brains link experiences together all the time. Think about a wedding song—whenever you hear it, you remember your wedding, even though the song wasn’t written for you. Or think of someone who self-harms and experiences a false sense of relief—their brain has linked pain with release.
That’s exactly what happens when we link rejection or hardship with the idea that “the universe is rewarding me.” It’s not logical, but the subconscious doesn’t work through logic—it works through association.
How to Reframe Challenge Without Reinforcing Pain
So, what’s the alternative? How do you stay spiritual, optimistic, and growth-oriented without accidentally wiring hardship into your energy?
Here’s the key difference:
- Yes, there is always a gift in every challenge—but the gift isn’t the challenge itself.
- The gift is in how you change, learn, and grow because of it.
If you experience rejection, loss, or hurt, tell yourself: “Everything will be okay. There’s something valuable here for me to learn, and I’m ready to find it.” Then, go deeper—reflect honestly on why it happened. Is there a pattern you can shift? A belief you can upgrade? A behavior that needs awareness?
When you combine optimism with self-honesty, that’s where genuine transformation happens.
The Difference Between Real Growth and Spiritual Bypassing
Unfortunately, many people skip that deeper part—the honest reflection—and instead use spiritual language to bypass discomfort. They say things like, “The universe was just testing me,” or “My illness is a gift.” But that links pain to spiritual progress, which reinforces more pain.
Instead, say: “The illness wasn’t a gift. My healing, my strength, my awareness—that was the gift that came through it.”
See the difference? You separate the hardship from the gift so the mind doesn’t confuse them.
Becoming Self-Aware Without Judgment
If something negative happens, practice honest self-reflection and empowered optimism together. Ask:
- What can I learn from this?
- What can I change in myself to prevent it from repeating?
- And how can I use this as fuel to create something better?
When you do this, you break free from negative programming rather than reinforcing it. You grow wiser, not just “more spiritual.”
Closing Thoughts
So, remember:
- Don’t link the problem to the gift—link the change to the gift.
- Every challenge holds potential, but only when you use it to grow.
- True spirituality is humility, reflection, and evolution—not righteousness or avoidance.
And finally, if you notice this pattern in yourself or others—catch it lovingly. Awareness alone begins to dissolve it.
Thank you for joining me for this week’s Quick IQ episode. Please do share this with someone you love, care about, or even someone you don’t know—because the more people who understand how powerful their minds truly are, the healthier and happier our world becomes.
