Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life
My name is Brandi Gilmore, and after recovering from my own life-changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Mastering Your Mind and Energy
Hello and happy, beautiful day to you. Welcome back. Today we’re going to be talking about mastering your mind and energy at an even deeper level and paying attention to those specific distinctions, because just like a supercomputer, our minds are so advanced, and the more that we’re clear on what it is we want to do with our minds, the more we’re able to succeed at it.
You know, as we all know, with a computer, if you don’t know what you’re doing, it can feel very frustrating, but the more you know how to use it, the easier it is to achieve all kinds of things. And so the distinction that I want to share with you today is this: all the time, we talk about—like even on the last episode—people want to slow down their minds.
Now, you’ve probably heard somebody say before, “Oh, my mind is racing, I need to slow it down.” But how many people have said before, “My computer, I hope to slow down my computer”? We don’t really want to slow down our minds; instead, we want to shut off the things that we don’t need running. Just like a computer, if we shut off the things we don’t need running, the other things can work faster and more efficiently.
Quieting the Mind
The other thing I hear people say all the time is that they need to quiet their minds. Now, if you think about it for a moment, do you really want your mind to be quiet? It might feel like it, but remember, that’s also your intelligence, that’s also ideas, that’s also being thoughtful, it’s also knowing what to think about. You don’t want to say, “Oh, I can’t think of what that is, I’m just drawing a blank.” We don’t want to tell ourselves to do that.
But more and more, I see people telling themselves they need to quiet their minds. And when you stop and think about it—again, the mind listens more than we realize. We might think it’s insignificant, but think about it this way: when someone takes a placebo, a fake treatment, and one person is told it can help with their symptoms of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), it works. Another person can be told it’s going to have negative effects, and it does.
Research shows that it is not just about belief. We can see evidence of that. But either way, my point is very specific. So if I’m telling my mind over and over that I want it to slow down or be quiet, that’s not good. Right? Instead, I want my mind to work efficiently. I want it to stay sharp, stay clear.
Rewiring the Mind for Healing
Here’s the insight I want to invite you to think about: this is what I did with my mind. I’ve been working with my mind for over 20 years now. I started by identifying negative thought patterns, things that were miswired, stresses, negative emotions—and I began to shut them down, just like shutting down unnecessary apps on your computer.
You see, with a computer, when it feels bogged down, it’s because too many things are open. The same applies to the mind. So instead of telling myself to quiet my mind or slow it down, I started getting clear on what wasn’t helping and began closing those “windows.” And that allowed me to be more present and feel more clarity.
Understanding the mind-body connection, I began shutting down thoughts connected to illness, which allowed my body to heal.
The Power of Mental Clarity
This is why I share this with you—because I see people telling themselves they need to slow down. They start feeling sluggish, with brain fog. They feel like they’re drawing a blank. They’ve been saying this for years, but what happens? Their minds slow down, but not in the way they intended.
The insight I want to leave you with today is this: you need to be specific in the way you work with your mind. Just like you’re specific when driving a car or flying a plane, be specific about how you work with your mind. Don’t just say, “I need to slow it down” or “I need it to be quiet.” Instead, ask for efficiency.
A simple practice you can do is work on being present in the moment. Rather than saying, “I need my mind to slow down,” practice presence. This helps program your mind to become more focused and present in each moment, helping you to clear away distractions.
