Self-Healing Insights: Surprisingly, Practicing “Gratitude” Can Keep You Stuck! (Patricia | Ep. 354)

This may sound surprising—especially because gratitude is so often recommended for healing, happiness, and personal transformation.

And to be clear, gratitude can be beautiful.

But what happens if someone is carrying deeper feelings of guilt, feeling undeserving of life, love, health, or happiness—and at the same time they are repeatedly bringing in strong feelings of gratitude?

That combination may not create the shift they think it is creating.

In fact, in some cases, it can actually reinforce the deeper feelings underneath and keep a person stuck.

That is exactly what came forward when Brandy recently worked with a beautiful volunteer who had been practicing gratitude and working on herself for years, while also carrying deep guilt from the past.

She genuinely wanted to heal and transform. Yet underneath the gratitude was an emotional pattern she had not fully recognized.

As Brandy began helping her address what was really happening beneath the surface, the volunteer reported that her neck pain shifted from approximately a level nine to a level two or three.

In this episode, you will discover:

  • Why gratitude itself is not the problem
  • How deeper feelings of guilt or undeservingness can change the way a gratitude practice is experienced
  • Why simply placing a positive emotion on top of an unresolved pattern may not create genuine transformation
  • The important distinction Brandy discovered during her own healing journey
  • Why being honest about what is really happening emotionally can be essential for creating real change
  • A more connected emotional state that Brandy began helping her volunteer move toward

Brandy also shares how this same realization became important during her own healing journey, when she began questioning many of the practices she had been told were supposed to help.

The key is not to stop feeling gratitude.

It is to understand what else may be happening underneath it.

Because when deeper guilt, undeservingness, or other negative emotional patterns are present, genuine healing may require addressing those patterns rather than simply trying to cover them with something positive.

As Brandy says in this episode, we have to be real with what is real to get real results.

And sometimes, that means looking beneath even the practices we have always assumed were helping us.
