Let's begin.

Hello and welcome to today's quick IQ episode where we talk about insights and questions, and today I have a really great question from a listener regarding the topic of changing her life and also the topic of disappointment. In short, her question is this: she's been working on the spiritual journey, the self-help journey, for a long period of time, and she says she has a nagging pattern that hits her like a sucker punch, which is the pattern of disappointment.

And so basically that's what we're going to unpack today: that pattern of disappointment and transforming that. Now, as with every pattern, it can show up in a few different ways. And so the first thing we want to look at is the most common way, and it's this: a lot of times we need to make distinctions from that appointment. And one, kind of to give you a big picture for a moment: if you've seen the picture of me in the wheelchair where I was working on healing myself and you can see, you know, I'm at my sister's wedding. Now leading up to that, her wedding, I told everybody that I was going to be walking down the aisle with no cane, no walker, and no wheelchair. And technically, if you look at that picture, you can see I failed, so to speak. Obviously, I didn't. I'm 100% healthy, pain-free, happy, no medication, can run, can do all of the things now. So obviously, I didn't fail in the big picture, but I did not make that deadline, and I was disappointed.

But from that, I got determined to figure out what I needed to do because, prior to that, I thought that it was all about gratitude and just believing I'm already healed, and binaural beats, and meditation. So, up until that point, I was telling everybody, “Oh, I'm going to be healed. I'm healing. I'm healing. I'm doing better and better. I'm healthy.” And I was convincing myself every day, “Oh, I'm healed,” and all of those things. Now, the wonderful thing is, when it didn't work out, yes, I had a moment of discouragement, but I got out of that. I said, I have to get determined.

Now, when you stop and think about it for a moment, in some ways, that's how we learn if we do it in a healthy way, meaning this: if you think about we as children, what do we do? We're learning how to walk. We stand up, and we fall. We stand up, and we fall. We stand up, we fall, but we make distinctions and we learn and we grow. And before you know it, we're running around and getting into everything. And that's ultimately how we want to do things. That's anything. You know, we learn, we make mistakes, we learn from it, we get better and better.

And so what we want to do is always just train our minds to make a new discovery, that if something happens that's not what you wanted, how can you learn from it? How can you grow from it? How can you go to the next level? That has been huge for my life. You know, again, going back to the picture with the wheelchair, I had told myself that I was going to be healed by this date and then by this date. But you know what? It's literally what led to everything that I do today, the distinctions. Every time I figured something out that literally, I mean, changed my entire life to the point now that I can take people back to back to back and show them even under medical equipment how to get results.

If you think about it, like the results that I've been able to show under medical equipment, something that's never been done before. And it's not because I'm so amazing. Yeah, I'm amazing. You're amazing. We're all amazing. But the more I was able to just make, and so that's what I would say, any time that I've ever worked with anybody and there's some type of disappointment or some type of thing that didn't work out the way that they wanted it to, if you make distinctions from that place and you say, okay, well, what does this mean? What else is there? How can I change this? It becomes life-changing.

You know, even if my injury was a huge disappointment. It is not what I wanted by any change, by any, you know, it is not what I wanted, but what happened? It made me grow. It made me change. Now, all of the time, people will say, like my injury was not the gift, but it made me have to change, and that was the gift. You know, sometimes people say, well, oh, well, if I have an injury, that's the gift. You don't want to tell yourself the injury is the gift; the change is the gift.

And so what I would say ultimately is if you're experiencing any type of disappointment, change something. Decide what it is that you want to change — what pattern, what action, what do you need to know, do, or be — and make that distinction and keep going, because I can tell you I've worked with people with healing, with success, business, money, relationships, where they've had one failed, disappointing relationship after another, after another, after another. And then when we identify the pattern or the problem and what's happening, and then they change it, they're in love in the most beautiful relationship.

And so what I would say is really being willing to not get stuck in the disappointment but to genuinely change. Now, that's exactly what our beautiful volunteer, the question was exactly that. She says it hits her like a sucker punch of disappointment. And so if you're in that and you're feeling that way, we feel all those emotions. It's hard to change, meaning that if you're in that way of thinking, so let's say somebody has a way of thinking that says, “Oh man, it didn't work.” From that stressful place, your mind is not going to come up with the answer. So you also would want to change the pattern, meaning this — the example you hear me use all the time — is if there's a third grader trying to do their math homework and they're stressed and they're overwhelmed or they're fearful, it's gonna feel really hard to do. But if they're open-minded and resourceful, it's gonna feel easy and easy and easier.

That's true with anything, and so you’ll also make sure to not get stuck in disappointment, because the more you get stuck emotionally in disappointment, the more you'll do what? Likely stay there because patterns breed more of the same. For one reason, you know, patterns breed more of the same and breed more of the same. The other thing is, if that emotion is really high, it makes your mind unresourceful. So it's like if somebody is really, really stressed, you know, when you try to reason with them or talk to them, how does it go? Not so well because the brain is stressed and emotional and heavy.

And so I would say the key insights from this are don’t get stuck there, but instead train your brain to get resourceful. Train your brain to not go into those emotions, rewire the subconscious mind so you're not getting stuck in disappointment feeling like a gut punch, but instead if something doesn't work out, you say, okay, what's the opportunity, where is that? And you make that distinction, and it is pivotal.

So that's the insight from today — exactly that, bouncing back and saying, okay, how can I take this to the next level? And by the way, an example: if we think about it, some people, if we think about COVID — during COVID, there were lockdowns, there were all kinds of things. Some people got locked into fear. Some people got locked into hopelessness. Some people said, “Okay, the world has changed. What do I need to change?” and did exactly that and had huge opportunities and huge successes. And I've seen that. And I literally watched people during COVID and supported people going from having a hard time to making huge changes and turning it into a win.

And so no matter what the external situation is, because let’s be honest, during COVID, for many people, depending upon what country and whatnot, a lot of things changed in the external world, and yet, despite the changes, when you keep an open, resourceful mind and you look for the opportunity, you find it. And so that's the insight and the invitation that I wanna invite you to look at. If you're feeling stressed or you're feeling struggle or whatnot, don’t get stuck there. Don’t get stuck in the disappointment. Turn it into the transformation, find the opportunity, run with it.
