Welcome to heal yourself, change your life. My name is Brandi Gillmore. And after recovering from my own life changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this. Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level.
I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life. Let’s begin.
Hello, and welcome to this week’s quick IQ segment. On today’s episode, I’m going to go ahead and take a question from the audience because I do feel like it is very insightful, especially with more and more technology and neuroscience and all of these things opening up even more. I think this question is going to be very helpful and enlightening for a lot of people.
All right, so that said, the question that Michelle sent in reads:
“First, I want to thank you for your episode on what types of meditation to avoid. It was really helpful and I can already see improvement just by consciously being aware of how much my brain wants to check out or escape.”
So, thank you for that. It’s still taking work, but I see it now. Which is awesome, by the way, and we’ll speak to that for a moment also. But she goes on to say:
“Also, if it’s okay, I would like to submit a question. I am curious what you think about the electronic brain stimulation devices. I am seeing more and more research on them, and I’m wondering your take on them for pain and surgery and such.”
And so it continues on even more.
Understanding Mental Escapism and Meditation Patterns
Let’s go ahead and address this right here, because again, I think this is going to be very insightful, especially for the big picture, for warnings and pitfalls and what you want to do and what you want to really avoid.
I do want to note — I love the first part that she mentioned about paying attention to her mind wanting to escape, and what type of meditation, and all of that. I love that. And I have been getting a lot of emails from people also noticing that same thing — just having that conscious awareness of their brain and how much they notice it checking out.
You know, when you stop and think about it for a moment, if you think about history and the human race, we as human beings were created in a world of physical danger. A bear chases you — you run. There’s a physical threat and you run from it.
But today, a lot of that stress is mental or emotional. So instead of “bear chases you,” now people are experiencing stress through the mind — what’s going on in the world, thoughts, fears — and that’s where a lot of the mental escapism happens.
Even just this past week, I ended up connecting with a person who teaches meditation, and we got into this conversation about how I’m not big on meditation in the traditional sense. And she realized this was exactly how she was teaching it. Her life was overwhelming — on a level 50 — and then she would meditate to try to escape and relax.
That’s exactly the pattern you don’t want to program in.
Some people reached out saying, “Oh, well, you don’t want us to meditate at all.” That’s not what I was saying. It all depends on how you are meditating.
If it’s an escape, and you’re teaching your brain to escape into a peaceful place, then definitely you don’t want to do that. Also, a lot of the programming people put in their minds, they think is positive, but when you look deeper, it’s not.
Electronic Brain Stimulation Devices: What You Need to Know
Now, let’s dive into the core of Michelle’s question about the electronic brain stimulation devices.
First off, I love the advancements of our world — improving life for all is important to me. You’ve probably heard me say on previous episodes that my ultimate goal is to work with the medical community and help bridge the gap between science and spirituality. I want people to understand, at a deeper level, what I am doing to help people create these shifts.
And of course, our brains are incredible.
My intention here is not to criticize anyone’s work. So we’ll keep this general and talk about the brain, endorphins, dopamine — all of the basics — and simplify it so it makes logical sense.
Why Endorphin-Based Brain Stimulation Can Be Problematic
There are some electronic brain stimulation devices designed to trigger things like endorphins in the brain — for example, during surgery — so a person won’t feel pain.
At first glance, that might seem like a great idea:
“Let’s keep people out of pain naturally.”
But when you look deeper…
If you’ve heard me use the example of someone who is a cutter — someone who has gone through trauma and cuts themselves — a lot of times they do that because the body releases endorphins.
If a person is willing to cut themselves to get an endorphin release, do you really want to link your brain to:
Surgery = pleasure?
That is the last thing you want your brain associating together.
There are people who subconsciously link:
Illness = love, attention, connection
And those deep subconscious associations can make the body want to create illness. So the last thing you want is surgery linked to endorphins.
Dopamine-Based Devices
There are other electronic stimulation devices geared toward triggering the release of dopamine — which is also very concerning. Think about substances like heroin or Oxycontin or even social media addiction — they all trigger dopamine.
Dopamine is powerful. People will sabotage their entire lives for dopamine.
So again, I don’t want to say anything negative about anyone’s work, but I want you to be aware of this so you don’t unintentionally create harmful patterns or dependencies.
And even if you think about it for a moment, a baby can come out addicted to heroin and have withdrawals because they’re used to a biochemical hit in the nervous system. And then what happens is it becomes harder to feel happy, harder to feel good, when your nervous system and your biochemistry are altered in such a way.
So my biggest suggestion is to do it naturally. When you’re in love, when you’re connecting with people, when you’re feeling a sense of camaraderie or happiness, your body naturally releases dopamine.
And by the way, I have literally had people who have gone through my classes and worked on healing their mind come out on the other side and say, “You know, I had a past with meth or heroin or whatever else, and this high that I feel — this level of happiness — is far beyond anything I ever felt with drugs. And the beautiful thing is, it’s natural and my life isn’t falling to pieces.”
What a beautiful thing.
When you think about antidepressants or SSRI reuptake inhibitors — for serotonin — or all the ways we try to give that quick fix to the brain, that still isn’t the real solution. The real solution is happiness. The real solution is love, connection, changing the patterns in the mind.
Some people have a hard time feeling loved, no matter how much you tell them they are loved. They always tend to feel unloved or disconnected, and that affects their life. Of course, they’ll feel more depressed; of course, they’ll have lower levels of the biochemistry that supports happiness.
But instead of relying on external stimulation, the ultimate goal is changing those internal patterns.
Natural Ways to Support Healthy Dopamine Levels
Looking at the big picture, regarding using electronic stimulation for dopamine or endorphins, I would strongly recommend being very cautious.
There are so many natural ways to increase dopamine levels in a healthy, sustainable way:
- Connecting with friends
- Falling in love
- Getting enough sunlight
- Exercising
- Certain types of meditation (not escapism!)
- Eating a healthy diet
All of these things can help increase dopamine naturally.
If somebody goes from feeling lonely or rejected or unloved and instead says, “I’m going to change this pattern — I’m going to feel so loved and connected to others,” and they truly change that pattern in their subconscious mind, how amazing is that?
Creating Deep Change in the Subconscious Mind
It’s not just about what not to do — it’s also about what you do want to do. Ultimately, you want an amazing life that feels incredible.
When you have real feelings of connection, love, joy, passion — your body releases dopamine, endorphins, positive neurotransmitters. And that feels amazing.
And you can create that by changing the subconscious patterns that are triggering negative emotions like hurt, fear, rejection, or upset.
That’s why it’s so important to look within and create real change in the subconscious mind. Otherwise, people continue repeating the same patterns — like the example of the woman with the abusive father, who then finds an abusive partner, boss, or spouse. It’s not that she consciously wants that. It’s a subconscious pattern.
To make real change, you need to shift those deeper patterns.
When you do, you begin triggering the positive emotions instead — and that creates the beautiful biochemical cocktail of wellbeing.
Building the Skill of Working With Your Mind
I was recently teaching a class, and someone asked me if I still get triggered in life. I said, “No, I’m grateful to say I don’t.” I’m the happiest person I know. I don’t go through a lot of triggers anymore.
But don’t get me wrong — I’m always working on myself. I love it. There is always something I want to change or grow or expand. I hope that until I’m a hundred years old, I am still working with my mind.
It’s like going to the gym. You don’t go once and say, “Great, I’m done.” You keep your body strong. You keep your mind strong, too.
And no — I don’t experience physical pain. My body is healthy, happy, fit, and in shape. Working on myself isn’t about healing pain; it’s about expanding and growing.
It feels amazing. When you reach a place of real joy and euphoria in life, working with your mind becomes something you genuinely enjoy.
Why People Seek Quick Fixes
Part of the reason you see things like brain stimulation devices or drugs being popular is because people don’t want to have to change. They want something quick.
Some people email my customer support asking how long my course is. When they hear it’s three weeks, they say, “That’s too long.”
And then, a year later, they come back because they’re still in the same place.
The truth is: working with your mind is a skill.
If someone knows how to write, they can write a letter in five minutes. If someone doesn’t know the alphabet, they can’t just say, “Well, I should also be able to write a letter in five minutes.” That wouldn’t make sense.
It’s the same with your mind.
Working with your energy is something you learn — and when you learn it, it’s incredibly empowering and life-changing.
Final Thoughts on Electronic Brain Stimulation
Circling back to the original question: electronic brain stimulation devices.
Of course, I haven’t seen everything on the market. But as a whole, my suggestion is to be very cautious.
Instead of chasing instant gratification, build the skill to change your life.
You don’t want to become addicted to a drug, or a pill, or alcohol, or a device, or social media, or anything external.
You want to be the one in charge.
Your brain is more powerful than you realize.
And speaking of that — the session I just recorded for this week’s podcast on the regular segment is with a guy who is just awesome. So sweet. When he was able to release his pain, he was like, “Oh my god, I did it!” It was the sweetest thing. It will touch your heart.
And I wish you a most wonderful, spiritful rest of your day today. I look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for listening to heal yourself, change your life. All of the time, people reach out and say how much these episodes have given them hope, or touched their heart, or helped them stay positive in hard times, or even woken them up to a completely new level of awareness of how amazing we all really are.
If today’s episode touched your heart or expanded your mind in any way, please do me a favor and be sure to share it with those you care about, or those you know who really need it. As more and more people become empowered, it really will change our world for the better.
That is the point — and the power — of these demonstrations: to create a radical shift in our world consciousness by showing everyone what we are all capable of.
And of course, each volunteer will really need to follow through to reinforce their programming to maintain their results. But the point is for you to see that you really can create rapid results in your health and your life if you truly understand how to use your mind. You’re incredible.
And I do want to be clear though, that most people will not get results this fast on their own. I make it look very easy because of the discoveries that I made. You’ll want to remember that there is so much more going on in our minds at a deeper level than people realize.
That said, if you want to send me any questions or comments, come visit me on my website at brandygillmore.com. And if you’re currently experiencing physical pain and would like to be a volunteer on the show, you can sign up there as well.
Lastly, please remember: if you do have any health issues, you won’t want to avoid your doctors. Instead, you’ll want to continue seeing them — and make it your goal to blow their minds with what you’re capable of with your mind.
Thank you.
