Hello and happy beautiful day to you. Welcome to this week’s quick IQ episode where we talk about insights and questions. And today I want to talk about the F word, which stands for follow through, but a lot of times people might mistakenly link follow through up to the wrong F word. Now, let me tell you, that’s part of the reason that I want to dive in because follow through when we’re working on creating healing or transformation is so important.
It’s instead of being a negative thing, follow through is fun. Follow through is freedom. It’s fantastic. It’s crucial to really getting the results. And I wanna talk about a few things that can block people from really following through at a subconscious level.
And there’s one specific key thing that I want to talk about that I see more and more people getting stuck in that follow through, where they’re not following through. And it’s this, it’s that more and more we hear with manifesting and creating our lives that everything is supposed to be quote unquote effortless.
Like more and more people are going, well, let’s just have everything effortless and effortless. And I get it. It sounds nice in some ways, but let’s stop and think about it for a moment because there is a certain level of effort that is needed for certain things.
I mean, let’s be honest, if you think about any pregnant woman and she goes to deliver and you say, this is going to be effortless, well, that’s not typically going to be the truth. There’s gonna be some effort involved in it. That’s how we come in.
So naturally speaking in childbirth, there’s some effort and it’s not just human beings. I mean, if we think about animals, dogs, cows, I mean there’s effort in childbirth or birth of a young one.
My point in saying that is just because we can see that innately there’s some effort, or even if we look at in the wild where we see animals, lion, or you know, what do they do to even get their food? There is some effort put into that.
Now, by the way, part of the reason that I use examples in nature is because so often people will say, well, when we’re manifesting things, the universe says it should not have any effort.
And that’s part of the problem is that then I’ll see people who at the same time think that we’re not supposed to have any effort at all, and then they’re struggling and they’re feeling challenged and they’re disappointed and just in a negative place because life isn’t working for them.
Now, of course, we don’t wanna be in struggle, so there’s a difference between struggle and effort. You know, all the time I put effort towards my life and towards what I do, and I want to put effort in. I enjoy putting in effort, but struggle on the other hand is we don’t wanna struggle with things that typically says, hey, we’re not in alignment with what we’re really wanting.
And so part of the reason that I want to unpack this is because all of the time I’ll see people who are working on mind-body healing and they feel like what they’re just supposed to do is just relax and just let their brain train itself and that they need to do nothing.
And so often—and by the way, I was there, so there is zero judgment—I was at a place before in my past, you know, 20 years ago now when I was working on healing, that I thought, okay, well I just need to have recordings. They’re gonna just train my brain and then it’s all gonna work and I’m gonna heal and I’m gonna relax and it’s just going to work.
And I did that for years. And the positive thinking and the meditation and the affirmations and all of those things. And I needed to embrace real change. That was the key.
And so while all of those things could be nice, they weren’t the key. But this is the thing, thinking about it like this for a moment, is that if we were even going to train ourselves to brush our teeth with a different hand, does it take some effort? Yes.
I mean, is it a struggle? It’s not a struggle, but it does take follow through—that F word, that wonderful F word. Follow through. Fun, fantastic freedom, right?
So it does take follow through to really brush our teeth with the other hand and train ourselves to make it a new habit. Or if we’re going to tie our shoes in a new way, it takes follow through to make it a new habit.
And so the same is true with transformation and really establishing new neural pathways, is that we need to really follow through to establish new neural pathways that then help to really create that genuine transformation and that genuine self-healing. And that is key.
Now, by the way, I’m not somebody who doesn’t like effortless, and in certain areas when we’re manifesting and things are aligned, things happen. And in fact, I recently shared the other day—it was just really sweet.
I had a light bulb that burned out in my house. It had been there for many years, and finally it quit. So it had to be taken down. There was some effort, but literally it was so funny because as soon as it was taken down, it was set on the kitchen counter to then be replaced.
And literally the next day I went to leave my house, and I opened the door, and there was a maintenance guy walking by right outside my house holding light bulbs.
We both said hello, and I asked him if he happened to have an extra light bulb I could buy from him. He asked what kind I needed, and when I showed him, he said he had that exact one with him—and even gave it to me.
Now my point is, there are things that happen effortlessly, and it’s fantastic. And I would say that part of those things happen because we are putting effort in other areas as well. When we show up to life, life shows up for us as well.
And so my point is just to say yes, I absolutely acknowledge that beautiful, amazing, wonderful things can unfold in the sweetest ways, and also simultaneously life does take effort in certain ways—not struggle.
I see a lot of people who are programming themselves that everything should be effortless, and then they feel stuck, disappointed, and not getting the results they want.
So if you are somebody who has been stuck in that awareness, I would invite you to enjoy effort, to look at what you could do that could be fun, and how you could have fun with follow through to create real change.
That’s today’s insight.
