There can be many different reasons a child may struggle with appetite or eating.
But there is one possible hidden emotional pattern that parents may not always think about, because it can be happening beneath the surface in a way that isn’t obvious.
In this episode, Brandy shares an insight she has been seeing more and more with children who are having a hard time eating.
Sometimes, what looks like “they’re just not hungry” may have more happening underneath than it first appears.
And in some cases, the way the issue is unfolding emotionally around the child can add another layer without anyone realizing it.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
→ One hidden emotional pattern that may affect appetite
→ Why the issue can become more complicated over time
→ How the pattern can become unconsciously reinforced without the child or the parents realizing it
→ What to start noticing beneath the surface
→ Simple ways to support more safety, connection, and positive emotional patterns
The goal is not to blame the child or the parent. It is simply to become more aware of what may be happening underneath.
Important Note: There can be many different reasons a child may struggle with appetite or eating, including serious medical conditions and other concerns. If your child is not eating, it is important to FIRST see your doctor or appropriate healthcare professional to rule out other causes. Do not avoid seeing your doctor because of anything you hear in this episode, and do not immediately assume that an eating or appetite issue is stress-related. This episode is intended to provide additional insight and support, but it is not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace appropriate medical care.

Welcome to Heal Yourself. Change Your Life. I’m Brandy Gillmore, and what I’m most known for is helping people to create radical transformations, and even demonstrating the power of the mind and self-healing under medical equipment so you can see the results. And my work has even been published in a medical journal because it’s truly incredible what we are all capable of when we understand our own minds at a deeper level.
So whether you’re new to this work or you’ve been studying the power of the mind for many years, I love that you are here. I love that we’re on this incredible journey together, and I look forward to sharing breakthrough information with you. That said, on this podcast, I’ll share two types of episodes.
First, self-healing episodes where I share key insights from working with live volunteers. And the second type are where I answer questions from the audience. That said, if you’d like to volunteer or submit a question, come visit me at BrandyGillmore.com. On that note, let’s dive in
So lately I’ve been seeing more and more children who are having a hard time eating, and it’s tricky. And so I wanted to share with you some key insights on that topic today, because what can happen is this, is that many times children might be feeling a bit stressed or overstimulated, but again, it can be tricky and there are layers that can be tricky, and it’s this.
I’ve seen children, young kids, who are playing video games a lot. And so with the video games, they’re in this feeling of nervousness or tension, and they’re in it, and so the overstimulation is making it so they’re n- not hungry or they’re having a really hard time eating. Now, video games is just one example.
The other things that are coming up are, of course, world events, um, politics, where maybe they’re hearing a lot of information about the news that’s on all of the time or, um, all kinds of n- different media feeds, if you will, or feelings that the world is going to end because of climate change or whatever it is.
But what’s happening is this feeling of overstimulation or fear or uncertainty or, you know, even it feels to them like a fun way where they become addicted to video games, but the stimulation, the tension, the nervous system is in go mode, and ultimately what’s happening is there’s just this feeling of feeling like they’re not hungry.
And, again, there’s layers that are tricky, and this is what I am seeing more and more happen is this, is that then they’re not feeling like they want to eat. So then what can happen is there’s, not only are, you know, of course, parents get concerned, but then it’s almost like the child then be able… is, is in a way able to use it for attention and love, not necessarily intentionally, but because it gets linked up.
So this is the tricky part, so let’s unpack this. Now, if we think about bigger picture, maybe you’ve heard before that if a child doesn’t get positive attention, they’ll get negative attention. And so what can happen is maybe a child is getting in trouble or acting out and they’re getting a lot of attention for it, and it becomes a pattern.
Or even a child with sympathy. They have some type of sympathy problem or whatever it is, unfortunately, and they don’t do it on purpose, but the information, it gets linked up in the subconscious mind. Now, by the way, if you think about it, we’ve heard before, you know, if an, if a child doesn’t get positive attention, they’ll get negative attention.
We need a- attention, connection, love as, as beings. You know? It’s not like there’s a one six-year-old is texting a nex- another six-year-old and saying, “Hey, by the way, if you didn’t get negative, or positive attention, get negative attention.” So that happens with children acting out. But my point is, is it can also happen when, uh, unconsciously when it starts getting linked up to food.
Because of course, any loving parent is going to feel concerned if their child’s not eating. So then there’s love and attention around it, and it can start becoming more and more of an issue, if you will, that has layers to it. And so if you’ve been experiencing this, I want to invite you to look at this in your life with your children and, and start to look at if there are areas where they’re feeling unsafe.
If there’s an ongoing feeling of feeling unsafe, which could even, you know, be social media, but a lot of times it’s, it’s this feeling of feeling unsafe with media or news or, or even video games or whatever it is that creates this feeling of tension or overstimulation or fear or fear about the future or whatnot, and then it’s creating knots in the stomach, if you will, but they don’t necessarily know that it’s, it’s, you know, just all of this tension.
And so there’s that, and then also look at if that has happened, maybe potentially removing, of course, removing any feelings of overstimulation, seeing what you can do to create safety, create reassurance, and then also on the other side, if there’s been a lot of love and correc- connection around the issue See how you might be able to change that.
Then of course, you, you need your children to eat, but see how you might be able to change that to instead provide extra love in a different area. So, uh, you know, “Oh, this food thing, okay, let’s take care of that. But let’s go do this instead. Let’s connect here instead.” So making sure that your children feel like they’re really getting love in positive ways and attention in positive ways, so they don’t have, they’re not linking that other stuff up.
Because sometimes what can happen is, is that even if you are, you know, giving them love and attention, sometimes they, they get caught up in, you know, the other stuff. Or what can happen is that they, you know, what can happen is that if some, if a child has an issue, let’s be honest, it’s easy, it can be easy to get sucked into the issue, that it then becomes their primary source of attention and connection and love, because it gets all the attention.
And then, of course, the problem is, is that then it, that gets linked up. And so ultimately, what you’d want to do is, is, you know, maybe something like this, maybe something like, you know, addressing the issue, but then also maybe saying, “Oh gosh, you did so great at this,” or, “Oh, you did so great at that.” So making a point to give acknowledgement and love and connection in a different area.
Like, “Oh my gosh, you did so wonderful.” So fulfilling those, that love and connection and attention in so many different positive ways. So just food for thought, if you will, on that, um, just because I’m seeing this more and more and more, and I see so many parents that are struggling and stressed with it, and then it’s affecting their health and their life and, and, you know, just, it just, seeing it more and more and more, just a growing issue.
And so again, food for thought, just something to think about. Again, it’s a bit tricky, uh, but I’ve seen people really get ahead of this, transform it and, uh, in such beautiful ways. So just a few insights and, um, as always, I want to ask you, please do take just a quick moment to hit the share button on this episode.
You know, share it with somebody you love, somebody you care about, or somebody you don’t even know, because the more that every single person in our world feels healthy and happy and loved and loving, truly the better this world is for all of us. And so please do take a quick moment to hit the share button, and please make a point to have an incredible rest of your day.
I look forward to connecting with you on the next episode. We’ll see you there.
