In this episode, we explore a topic that has been coming up regularly for many of my clients since the beginning of the pandemic. For many people, this continued exposure to grief and loss as a product of COVID-19 has resulted in a residual and prolonged heaviness in their energy, similar to a proverbial storm cloud.
And it has not only presented as “heaviness” or “sadness” but it can also feel a lot like grief. Many clients I have spoken with feel as though the heaviness is bearable, but as with all things, grief is an energy that will seep into your subconscious mind and weigh down every one of your happy moments unless it is properly released.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, then this episode will move you. It will touch your heart, make you think, inspire you and clue you in on the very things that need to be addressed that everybody is overlooking at this time.
In this IQ installment, I will talk about:

If you have found yourself asking any of these questions such as:
Welcome to Heal Yourself, Change Your Life. My name is Brandi Gillmore. And after recovering from my own life changing injury, it’s become my mission to share with others the same discoveries I made that changed my health and my entire life. Our minds are truly incredible. The placebo is proof of this.
Each week, I will take this simple awareness to a whole new level. I will even coach live callers to free themselves of physical pain using only their mind. And then I’ll provide you with a combination of practical and spiritual insights that you can use to master your mind, your emotions, and your energy to help you heal your health, yourself, and your life.
Let’s begin.
Hello and welcome. It is so wonderful to connect with you. I just love that you are somebody who is here, who’s continuing to expand your mind and your consciousness. I just, I love it. And welcome to today’s quick IQ episode where we talk about insights and questions.
Today I want to share with you a really powerful insight that has been subconsciously impacting a lot of people over the past year and a half and even longer in some cases. It’s been showing up in a variety of different ways affecting people’s lives.
And it just came up this week again with one of my coaching clients. I wanted to share it with you because it can be pivotal in a positive way when you release it — and if not, it can sabotage your happiness and your ability to enjoy life and be healthy and happy.
The client I’m referring to had been doing amazing. When I first started working with her, she had a lot of health issues and had been on disability for many years. As we began working together, she turned it all around. She healed herself, started her own business, and even during the shutdown and pandemic, she flourished while others in her niche struggled or closed down.
She pivoted, focused, did the work, and thrived — she was a champion at it.
However, a few months ago, her brother was in a life-altering accident. Without going into too many details, it resulted in a very severe case of brain damage to the point where he’s unable to function on his own and he doesn’t recognize any family members.
As you can imagine, this was devastating for her and her family. The first month or two brought hope that he might regain some basic cognitive abilities — but none of that became possible.
What did happen was an ongoing heaviness and uncertainty for her entire family.
When you’re in this space of heaviness with family or people around you, it can feel hard to be happy. It can feel impossible. And it can also feel not right to smile or have a good day — like it would be socially unacceptable.
That’s the part I want to speak to.
I’ve seen so many people experience this recently. Some because of COVID, others not because of COVID at all — losing babies, parents, grandparents, or friends. A general heaviness has been affecting many people, even if their own life is going well.
There’s this feeling that it’s not okay to be fully happy or to fully enjoy life.
You absolutely want to have empathy — but you also want to allow yourself to feel happy, be healthy, enjoy life, and live fully. Some people believe it’s “not right” to feel happy during these times, and I understand that belief, but it’s not where you want to stay.
Negativity affects your health and your life. If everyone stays in that heaviness, it breeds even more sickness.
What often happens is that the “cloud” of heaviness eventually gets into the subconscious mind. And then you stop noticing it — it becomes your emotional normal.
An easy way to see this is to think about wearing a turtleneck or a necktie. The first time, it can feel like it’s choking you. But if you wear it regularly, it becomes normal. You stop noticing it.
Emotional heaviness works the same way.
At first you notice it… then you stop noticing it… and it becomes part of your subconscious state.
I’ve seen this show up as:
Even people who have lost no one are being affected by the general emotional tone in society.
A helpful analogy: If you were walking past a funeral, even if you didn’t know the person, most people would naturally tone down their happiness out of respect.
That same dynamic has been happening collectively since COVID — an undertone of mourning that makes people subconsciously feel it’s not okay to be joyful.
This undertow has been weighing on many people.
My client felt that if she allowed herself to be happy, she would be a terrible person. She thought it was socially unacceptable to smile or enjoy anything while her family was suffering.
That belief began sabotaging her life. Hard things started happening again. She felt guilt anytime something good occurred.
We talked about the importance of giving herself permission to live fully and happily again.
Part of the challenge was that she spends so much time with her mother, and felt she couldn’t be happy around her.
So I had her do something simple and sweet:
I asked her to order napkins that said “Best Day Ever.”
She and her mom eat dinner together every night, so it was a symbolic and gentle way to create a new space of celebration — to say, “We are stepping back into life again.”
I also suggested playing music — songs like Lovely Day or Celebrate — to help bring in that energy of joy.
Two days later she contacted me with the most beautiful message: her mom loved the napkins, and the two of them danced and cried together to I Can See Clearly Now (The Rain Is Gone).
Since then, they’ve been celebrating every day. Her mom is improving. My client is back to laughing, manifesting positive things, and feeling like herself again.
The heaviness of the past year and a half is still affecting people — consciously and subconsciously.
Even people who are thriving have been carrying a subconscious guilt about doing well or being happy.
I have seen this pattern before — even after the recession in 2008–2009. A client of mine became subconsciously guilty about making money while others struggled, and he began losing millions. His health declined. His stress skyrocketed.
This is what unresolved heaviness or guilt can do.
If you’ve felt:
…then now is the time to release it.
Change the internal conversation from:
“Others are suffering, so I shouldn’t be happy.”
to:
“Others are suffering, so I will shine happiness and celebrate life even more — so they can feel the permission to live again, too.”
If everyone in the world lived fully, loved fully, and celebrated life fully, our world would be transformed.
You can be part of that transformation.
If you have any stuck spots — maybe a family member, or a sensitive situation — see if there’s a beautiful way to bring celebration back in, just like my client did.
She wanted this story shared because she hopes it will help others release heaviness and step back into life.

I am sending you so much positive energy, and I hope you have the best day ever — one that just keeps getting better and better.
