If you’ve been working on healing, transformation, or personal growth and wondering why your results aren’t happening as quickly as you’d like, there may be a surprisingly subtle reason.
Sometimes, the very beliefs that sound positive, spiritual, or supportive can unintentionally program the mind in a way that makes change harder.
In this episode, Brandy shares two common patterns that can quietly slow down healing and transformation.
One has to do with the way we think about effort.
The other has to do with what it really means to be gentle and loving with ourselves.
And both can sound completely positive on the surface.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
• Two subtle beliefs that may be slowing down your results
• Why effort is not necessarily a bad thing
• How certain ideas about self-love can unintentionally make change feel harder
• The difference between healthy transformation and overwhelm
• How to begin programming your mind in a way that supports more momentum, relief, and positive change
Sometimes the shift is not about trying harder.
It is about making sure your mind is actually programmed in the direction you want to go.

Welcome to Heal Yourself. Change Your Life. I’m Brandy Gillmore, and what I’m most known for is helping people to create radical transformations, and even demonstrating the power of the mind and self-healing under medical equipment so you can see the results. And my work has even been published in a medical journal because it’s truly incredible what we are all capable of when we understand our own minds at a deeper level.
So whether you’re new to this work or you’ve been studying the power of the mind for many years, I love that you are here. I love that we’re on this incredible journey together, and I look forward to sharing breakthrough information with you. That said, on this podcast, I’ll share two types of episodes.
First, self-healing episodes where I share key insights from working with live volunteers. And the second type are where I answer questions from the audience. That said, if you’d like to volunteer or submit a question, come visit me at BrandyGillmore.com. On that note, let’s dive in.
Would it surprise you if I told you that all of the time people are programming their minds in a way that’s actually keeping them stuck or making it harder to transform their lives or to really create the healing and the transformation that they’re wanting? And this is something that I see very, very often, and that’s what I want to share with you today, is just two simple and subtle common ways that I see this all of the time.
Now, the first one is kind of obvious, and it’s this. It’s that I’ll see people who are telling themselves that everything should be effortless. Now, let’s think about this for a moment. Even learning the alphabet took effort, or if I was gonna learn how to speak French, it would take effort. To program the mind, to get it in, to practice it.
If, if somebody’s gonna change a habit, even if it’s brushing their teeth with the other hand from now on, where they used to brush it with their right hand, now they’re gonna brush it with their left, it takes some effort. So it’s not necessarily hard, but it does take effort, or showing up at work or whatever it is.
But when we take effort, and we make effort from the right place, it can feel really good. It can feel rewarding. The problem is, is that if we program into our minds over and over and over and over again that something should be effortless, what I see all the time happen is people then have a hard time getting themselves to follow through, and then they can’t figure out why they’re not following through, why they’re having a hard time, why they feel stuck, why they don’t complete things, or it feels hard to do, is because they’re telling themselves they shouldn’t have to, and everything should not take any effort But what’s beautiful, and I’ve seen this time and time again, when people actually make effort in, in a relationship or effort towards their business with that combined alignment of energy and alignment of their mindset with some great fun effort moving forward, the results are incredible.
I have seen people heal and transform and create amazing relationships and, and business, uh, just all kinds of things from some effort, some motivated, fun, inspired effort a- and feeling that alignment with it, and also being aligned mentally. And so I would invite you to make sure to not tell yourself that everything should be effortless just because I can’t tell you how often I’ve seen people stuck, procrastinating, stuck, and they’re like, “I can’t get myself to follow through,” or they’re not following through all the way, or they start to, but then they stop, and then they start, and then they stop.
And at a subconscious level, there is some deep programming that says they shouldn’t have to, and to be spiritual, it should be effortless. And so by the way, on that note, if anybody ever says and tells you that being spiritual should be effortless, tell that to a woman who’s nine months pregnant and about to give birth.
You know, if you think about it for a moment, there’s some effort involved in the way that we come into this world. So you can see that in nature, there is effort. And of course, we want everything to feel better than labor. But you get my point, is that we don’t want to be effort and avoid any effort. And so often I see people who program themselves for it, and it then keeps them stuck.
So that’s one thing. Another thing that I see which is more counterintuitive is this: is that I see people programming their minds that in order to be gentle to themselves, they should change very, very slowly. Now, let’s unpack this for a moment because it’s a little tricky, but think about it in this way.
If somebody’s run over by a car, and they have a lot of weight and heaviness on them, would you say… and they’re under a car, would you say, “Be very… Just move slowly. Don’t…” Like, don’t, don’t, uh, you’d want to get the weight off of them, right? Is long and short, is you’d want to really get that weight off of them sooner rather than later.
And of course, you want to be delicate with the body. But my point is, is that when somebody says just change very slow But they’re in a lot of emotional hurt, and they’re in a lot of mental hurt, and they’re feeling that hurt and that wounding. And then people say all of the time, “Be gentle with yourself.
Don’t change too fast. Just be gentle.” But is that really gentle? Like, if there was 500 pounds on your foot, would you want to, it to be removed fast or would you want to remove it very slowly? For me, it would be very fast. Now, I say this even from my own experience. So if you know my story, you know I was injured.
I was in an absolute mess, and I was at a point where I didn’t want to live anymore in life. I wanted to check out because it was so hard and painful. And so that scared me, and it made me really want to change. Not only that, but the more I could see research about the power of the mind, and, and you hear me say this all the time, but people with multiple personality disorder having different illnesses and different personalities, what did it make me think?
It made me think, “I need to change very fast.” Like how do I… Like, it motivated me to say, “What do I need to change?” And for anybody who is not familiar with that research, I h- I do talk about it all the time, but let me just unpack that for anybody, if you’re here who’s new. Uh, but basically, research has shown that people with multiple personality disorder can have different illnesses and different personalities even though it’s the same physical body, completely different symptoms.
So personality number one could always have one illness or symptoms. Another personality could have a completely different symptoms, and another personality might have no health issues at all whatsoever. And so as I saw that during my injury, I thought, “Okay, well, you know, how do I get a different mindset to heal?”
My point is, is it motivated me to want to make a fast change. Like, how do I do that, and let me just change. So I want to unpack this even more because what happens is this, is that that’s what I did in my own injury, is trying to figure out how to really, really change. As I did, it felt better and relief, and my body healed and, which was incredible because part of me thought, “Well, I had a physical accident, a physical injury.
How is my body gonna heal?” But I see it all of the time now. And so of course, that was, you know, 20-something years ago, my injury. So my point is, is that when you stop and think about it for a moment though, is that imagine if somebody says, “Just be gentle with yourself. Just, you don’t have, don’t change a lot.
Just take your time and go slow.” Honestly, if somebody said that to me during my injury, I think it would have felt very discouraging because if I had listened to that, if I had really listened to that, I wouldn’t have gotten the results that I did. I wouldn’t have healed the way that I did. I wouldn’t…
And not only that, but the more I said, “Okay, I have to change and I really need to change now,” the better I felt. So now of course, I don’t want anybody to overwhelm themselves. So if somebody’s overwhelmed already, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself. That’s a different thing. So telling you… So overwhelming yourself is not what you want to do because overwhelm is a feeling, too.
But you also wouldn’t want to say, “Oh, just be gentle with yourself and change slowly.” Instead, what would be better programming for your mind is saying, “Yes, be loving to yourself,” and the more that you can love yourself and the more you change and really transform and really shift your mindset, the better you can feel, the happier you can feel, the, the more relief you’re going to get.
The more relief, the happier, the better, the more healing lives there, happiness lives there, transformation. Like so, yes, so it’s more incentivizing to create that change because if somebody gets it linked up in their mind that the most loving thing that they can do for themselves is to change slowly That’s what I see happening all the time.
People go, “Oh, but, you know, I, I really want to be gentle with myself.” Like, like fast change is somehow unsafe. No, it’s relieving. Been there, done that. It’s incredible. And in fact, if you’ve seen my work under medical equipment, all of the time I take people and show them how to create a radical shift, and they free themselves from pain or all kinds of things fast.
Now, I wouldn’t say to them, “Let’s do it in a more loving way, and let’s do it slowly and keep you in more pain.” Eek, right? So we want to make that change, and so notice the subtle difference, the subtle but important difference. So imagine if I said to people, “Be gentle and loving to yourself, so change slower.”
No, we wouldn’t want… I would say instead, “Be loving to yourself and remind your mind that as you change, it feels better. It feels like relief that as you transform and you change your mindset, that’s where relief is. That’s where change is. That’s where healing is.” So it’s incentivizing because otherwise it sounds like change is scary, like change is not safe.
And if you ask me how often I see people who get that linked up in their mind, all of the time, because somebody told them along the way, “Just be gentle with yourself. Go very, very slow.” So they think that that’s the most loving thing that they can do for themselves, and I would say the most loving thing you can do to yourself is to not overwhelm yourself But to ju- definitely embrace change.
What does that feel like? What does that look like? Really, really embrace a real, real change and incentivize your mind. The more you incentivize your mind that says, “Look at change,” the more you change. And by the way, that is exactly what I got in my mind, is I said, “Wait a second here.” Because I, I had been doing…
If you know my story, I had been meditating and positive thinking and affirmations and all of the things, and it wasn’t working. But when I really started to understand the mind in a different way, and even with multiple personality disorder and, and all of that, I said, “Okay, how do I make a radical change?”
The best thing I ever did for myself, for my life, and I see people all of the time. So inviting you to think about it in that way, because if self-love means going very, very, very slow with change, it can feel discouraging. Now, part of the reason that I even mention this is because if you ask me how often I get emails in my inbox of people messaging in saying, “I’ve tried all of these programs, and they all told me to go slow, and I’m, I’m so discouraged,” or, you know, “I’m, I’m so discouraged, I can’t take another heartbreak.”
I see that all of the time, and somebody’s messaging in saying, “What is, what is different about your program?” And all… So many things. So many things. But they message in and they’re like, “What is different about your program? I just can’t take another heartbreak. I keep…” You know, a- and so my point is we have to work with the mind in a different way to get a different result, and I just, I see it so often.
And so just food for thought is that if you’re taking effort and you’re, or you’re… To, to love yourself, to, to really think about these things and how they really program your mind. It’s kind of like imagine if I took a young child at a young age, and I said, “Life should be really, really effortless. You don’t have to make any effort in life whatsoever.
Just program your mind no effort.” We’d say, “Wait a second. Where, where do you see that?” No, life does take some effort. It does take showing up. Learn this, grow this, expand this, but when you do it from a great place, it can feel f- fun. I mean, haven’t you ever got something done before, and you got it done, and it felt, like, rewarding or good or…
You know, that’s the feeling of feeling aligned. But in, yes, in effort and growing and, and being and, and yes, sometimes things take some extra effort, and that’s just what’s true. But when you do it from that place, and you align with your mind, and it feels good, like, it just feels rewarding. And so just food for thought because, of course, if your mind is going opposite direction of what you’re wanting in life or keeping you stuck, makes it harder and harder to get the results that you want.
So food for thought and just incentivizing your mind, programming your mind for the direction you want to go, aligning your actions, your effort, your mindset, and your smile. So it has been such a pleasure connecting with you, and if you are somebody who’s wanting a deeper understanding of mind body healing and how it works, there is a link for a free training in the show notes.
