So often, people are working with their mind, exploring spirituality, self-help, personal development, and new ideas about the body and healing. And while some of these ideas can feel exciting, mind-expanding, or even empowering at first, they can also create subtle conflict at a deeper subconscious level.
For example, a person may begin believing that negative emotions are “stored” or “trapped” in their body and are impacting their health. And while emotions can absolutely show up in the body, there is an important distinction between feeling emotion in the body and believing negative emotions are literally trapped inside of you.
That belief may sound helpful or even empowering on the surface. But at a deeper level, it can create a contradictory subconscious emotional response, such as fear, angst, stress, or a sense that something is wrong inside the body. And when the nervous system is receiving that type of fear-based message, it can work against the empowered emotional state that is important for self-healing.
Further, when we look at mind-body healing at a deeper level, we can see that a person does not need to “remove” stored emotions from the body in order to begin creating a shift. Instead, when a person begins to recognize that emotions can shift in the present moment, it can feel deeply empowering. It may seem like a small distinction, yet it can elicit a completely different emotional response.
And this is just one example.
In this quick IQ episode, Brandy Gillmore shares how certain well-intentioned healing, spiritual, and self-help practices can sometimes work against the very transformation a person is trying to create. She unpacks how to begin noticing whether your inner work is helping you feel more empowered, connected, safe, loved, and alive, or whether it may be quietly creating more stress, fear, or conflict beneath the surface.
If you have been working on healing yourself and still feel stuck, this episode may help you uncover the hidden patterns quietly working against you, so you can begin shifting your mind in a more loving, empowered direction.

Welcome to Heal Yourself. Change Your Life. I’m Brandy Gillmore, and what I’m most known for is helping people to create radical transformations, and even demonstrating the power of the mind and self-healing under medical equipment so you can see the results. And my work has even been published in a medical journal because it’s truly incredible what we are all capable of when we understand our own minds at a deeper level.
So whether you’re new to this work or you’ve been studying the power of the mind for many years, I love that you are here. I love that we’re on this incredible journey together, and I look forward to sharing breakthrough information with you. That said, on this podcast, I’ll share two types of episodes.
First, self-healing episodes where I share key insights from working with live volunteers. And the second type are where I answer questions from the audience. That said, if you’d like to volunteer or submit a question, come visit me at BrandyGillmore.com. On that note, let’s dive in
All of the time I see people working with their mind in a way that is actually keeping them from healing or getting the results that they want. Now, let me give you an example. Imagine for a moment that somebody is walking around and they feel like they have a dangerous spider on their shoulder. Well, how are they going to feel inside?
You know, feelings of fear or stress or angst. Now, the reason I share this is because so often people, when they’re working with their mindset for healing, will tell themselves things like negative emotions are trapped inside the body. So they start to believe these negative emotions that they have that are affecting their health are literally trapped in their body, which increases feelings of fear, angst, and stress at a subconscious level.
And so it makes it harder to heal instead of easier to heal. And so often I see people doing this to, to their mind and they don’t realize it. Of course, they’re working on healing themselves, but the thing you want to keep in mind is this, is that if you hear me talk about all of the time research with multiple personality disorder, where a person can have– who has multiple personalities can have different illnesses in different personalities.
So one personality can have one type of incurable disease and a different personality can have a completely different illness, and another personality can have no illness at all. My point is Is that clearly it’s not about stored emotions in the body because if that were the case, that couldn’t happen.
You know, even on a simple note, if somebody’s embarrassed, their face can turn red. We, we see the mind-body connection, and that doesn’t mean it’s going to be stored red forever. So there’s a lot more to mind-body healing. Now, the reason that I bring this up is first and foremost because a, a listener messaged in and asked me if I would unpack more of the reasons why people are stuck because so often people are experiencing this very thing, and he’s noticing that maybe there’s some things that he’s doing.
Now, I was doing the same thing. I was working with my mind in a way that was actually keeping me stuck. Now, of course, that was 20 years ago, 20-plus years ago when I started working with my mind for healing, and I’ve been healed for over 16 now. So, but at that time, I did a lot of things, a lot of mistakes, you know?
And so often I see people making those same or different mistakes that are actually keeping them stuck or even increasing the problem. And so to name a few other ones, a- another example is this, is all of the time I’ll see people do this, where they start to get into spirituality or self-help, and they start to become more and more aware of, you know, spiritual practices, and they might get a belief like this, that it is, like, a low-level energy to be here on Earth, and that it is much better to have lifetimes where they’re not here.
Like, they’ll say something like, “You know, once I complete this lifetime, I won’t have to ever come back.” Now, what does that tell the subconscious mind? It says, “It’s not great to be on Earth. I’m excited to leave Earth.” And that’s the programming that it says. And so on a subconscious level, that can make somebody no longer want to be here in life.
And I- so then I’ll see people maybe with a terminal illness who at a deeper level, you know, if, if when I really work with them on a deeper level, does their body want to stay here on the planet, or does it want to leave? It’ll want to leave. It doesn’t want to be in this body. And of course, to heal, the body has to want to be here.
So the subconscious mind needs that. And, and so another one that I see all of the time is this. I’ll see people who go into past life energy, and they start learning about their past lives or whatnot, and they start storing up additional trauma. So maybe they hear that, you know, this negative thing happened or that horrible thing happened, or they were burned at the stake or a variety of different things.
Now what can happen is keeping in mind that once our minds experience something, we can feel it. Like for example, even maybe if you’ve ever done this where you’re even watching TV, you know, you watch something on television and you find yourself tensing up. So on a subconscious note, especially when you make it as a memory about self, it can actually store in the subconscious mind and impact you.
And I see that all of the time unfortunately where people end up more stuck because they start down the path of spirituality and self-help and, and self-exploration, which is, which is an incredible journey of course And yet we have to be really careful about what we put in our minds, and is it negatively impacting us or positively?
And, you know, I, I could go on and on about the lists of things that I see. Um, another example is this, is sometimes people will have a tendency to amplify negative emotions when they address them, like, or they identify them. For example, I’ll see people who have been feeling maybe lonely inside, and what they might do is they might then label it and they say they’ve been starved of love.
Now, if you think about it for a moment, so if somebody’s been feeling lonely, and now they then call it starving from love, what happens? Well, it actually amplifies the emotion, especially when a person starts talking about it and feel like… And of course, it’s something that needs to be fixed. We, we all need love and connection.
That is so important to have a happy, healthy, wonderful, incredible life. But what happens is when they start giving it more and more labels, it amplifies the negativity, which further can impact a person’s health, and I see that all the time. I mean, there are just so many different ways, or an- another way, speaking to loneliness, another way is I’ll see people who are, you know, maybe they’re getting onto the self-help spiritual, uh, awareness journey, and maybe they’re meditating all of the time and meditating all of the time, and as a result, they’re starting to feel more and more disconnected from people.
They feel less connected to their spouse or less connected to people around them and family and friends. And then, of course, they need to feel connected, and of course, and sometimes they have plenty of people around them. It just, it is that feeling where you can feel alone in a crowded room, if you will, where somebody’s feeling lonely and disconnected even though there’s plenty of people around.
That can be common as well. And so, I mean, literally the list goes on and on, and of course, in that situation, making a point to reconnect with people or connect with people in a way that feels good, even if it’s just laughing or being silly or bantering or playing or cooking together, whatever it is. But making a point to create human connection is so important.
And, and so, you know, there just, there are so many different ways. And so the biggest thing you want to think about in this case is even if you just simplify it and you ask yourself, you know, if what is you… if what you’re doing is creating even more love in life and love and happiness and positivity, or if it’s creating more stress or amplifying that.
Now- I do want to be clear about that and add another little clarifying piece because as I mentioned, there are so many ways that I see that can keep people stuck. And so another way when I just mentioned the feeling of love, I’ve seen so many times where people are sending love towards their health issue, and that unfortunately can also keep a person stuck as well.
And so, um, the easy way to think about it is, is this, is, you know, a, a plant needs the sun, so a plant will grow towards the sun. We as human beings will also grow towards love and connection. And so when we feel that sense of love and connection, we want to pull towards that. And so but unfortunately, if love and connection is being connected through illness, then the subconscious mind can want to go in that direction unfortunately.
So, so it is a bit tricky. But The… If you were to simplify it, it really is, you know, lifting your energy, shifting your mindset, and making sure that the way that you’re working with your mind really does feel empowering and is going in the really the purest direction of your soul’s growth flourishing here on Earth, it- and, and being full of life.
And so I guess that’s, that’s kind of the, the simple way to summarize it is that. And, um, and just paying attention and noticing. How does that feel? So even if you think about emotions being, quote-unquote, “stored in the body,” I can’t tell you how many times where people didn’t realize it was impacting them.
They didn’t realize they had a subconscious fear. And then one of the things that I’ve had some people do is just kind of check in and notice. Like, when you stop and think about these negative emotions that are, quote-unquote, “trapped in your body,” how does it make you F-E-E-L? How does that make you feel?
And they go, you know, “Panicked, wanting to get out of my body, wanting to get that out.” It’s like a, an angst type of feeling. So it’s not helping with the transformation. It is… Instead, it’s creating more of that stress. So instead, I would ask them to focus on shifting their feelings. So instead of feeling the stress, working on feeling the transformation in themselves.
And so I understand there’s a lot to unpack here. The simple is, is ultimately understanding that when you work with your mind, focusing on where you really, really want to go and rewiring your mind at a deeper level for more love, happiness, health, vitality in a positive way, and making sure that whatever you’re doing, whether it’s adding words to things or, uh, wh- whatever direction you’re going in, making sure that there’s not that subconscious negative emotion that can go on at a deeper level.
So really tuning into that, paying attention, you know, um, with kind of like with the past life thing. The, the tricky part about that is it can feel really cool, like you’ve learned about past lives and you, and you think, “Oh, well, this happened and that happened.” And that can feel on the top, on the surface, exciting and interesting.
And then on a deeper level can create unfortunately, um, subconscious fears that even may not feel huge, but create a negative experience at a deeper level. And so that’s the insight. But paying attention to how does it really feel, or even if you’re doing a lot of spiritual work and you are starting to feel disconnected from others, saying, “Okay, well, wait a second here.”
And, and paying attention to that. Like, yes, it’s great to do spiritual work and transformation. It’s incredible. And also how to continue to remain connected and really feel that in your life. So even if it’s making a list to write down a few fun things that you can do and follow through with to really continue to create that grounded human silliness, playful banter, connection, sweetness, passion, love, whatever it is.
But to really embrace that ’cause it’s good for your health and your life. And so food for thought. And that is today’s quick IQ episode. So if you have a question, by the way, please feel free to send it in. I am happy to answer your question.
